Subaru being the best wingwoman ever :) I think one of my few 'complaints' (too strong a word) was that the series gave the impression of a single-parent home until this episode. I felt like there was some deeper family trauma (either tragedy or messy divorse) that had also impacted Rintaro. Thankfully not the case, I just hate that I felt something must have happened up until this episode. Overall just a feel good episode though.

Yeah, I also got those vibes and definitely think it was on purpose as like a bait & switch technique It was so good seeing him have positive relationships with both parents though, I feel that's pretty rare with most shows I watch

I know a lot of shows will 'write off' the parents for budgetary reasons unless they are plot important (like the mom is). Makes me wonder what the manga shows, It's already on my 'to-read' pile but there's still a lot to get to. Another example - Marin's father in MDUD actually makes a few apperances in the manga, but the anime reduces him to phone calls and off screen discussions that Marin later summaraizes. But since Gojo's grandfather is so important, he obviously gets seen a lot (thankfully so, because he's wonderful).

Just go ahead and read the manga. Don't hold back! There are enough minor differences between the manga and anime that make them seem different enough that experiencing both is worth it. The Kmanga app has the official chapter releases, and several full volumes are out in physical and digital.
