Scut work is the routine/meanial tasks that need to be done by someone. Filling out forms, drawing blood, checking vitals, that sort of stuff.

Actually, when my grandpa was sundowning, it is much better to go with it and be in their reality. It makes them more comfortable and more likely to work with you. Once my grandpa at 93 got out of bed at 2am and started packing. He could barely walk at this point, but was somehow able to grab a suitcase from the top shelf of the closet. He thought he was 40 again and had to leave to go to the airport. (He was a traveling jazz trombonist, and was pretty much on the road his whole life)... My grandma was just fighting with him, telling him he was wrong, that he was crazy, that his experience of reality was false. I walked in after a bit and said, "We just got a call that due to bad weather your flight is cancelled and Ed (one of his bandmates) cancelled the first gig"... instead of being angry, he paused, said "oh, okay. So I can put this away and go back to sleep!" (put the suitcase away). He forgot about the whole thing the next morning and was himself. You can't fight it, it's their reality, and the more you fight them, the more they think you are crazy and won't listen to you. You have to put yourself in their shoes, and that is really really hard to do when you are emotionally connected to the person and have known them before they were sick.

dude, i’ve watched this show a million times and there are still episodes that make me cry, no matter how many times i watch them lol. it’ll be a ride for sure, so glad you’re continuing to react to greys! 🙏

Lauren

So happy you're enjoying it! Grey's is one of the shows I turn to when I need to feel my feelings and have a good cry so be prepared for what's to come!

I only worked in the dementia unit for a short period of time, but I usually went along with whatever they were saying. One elderly woman with dementia had a doll baby she named it after her son, fed it changes its diapers etc.

I'm so happy someone else likes George, he's one of my favs, i think hes so funny, most people watching say he's just annoying.

I'm team George in the beginning. I find him less appealing on rewatches. But I feel like my opinion changes with almost every character.

"make the lambs stop screaming" was supposed to be a joke about silence of the lambs, like the world is backwards because izzie is hanging with alex i personally understand derek's initial choice not to try to operate on the baby. he believed that she was too far gone and didn't want to put an already suffering baby through surgery if it wouldn't help anyway. it would be cruel the blushing girl- i understand her operation. you say that nobody would know what the blushing meant and therefore be able to tell what she was feeling, but that's obviously not the case. alex knew that she liked dr sheperd. the people in her life probably already know what the blushing means. when new people come into her life, she doesn't want to have to lie to them and say that the blushing is completely unrelated to emotions (especially when that lie is easy to see through. if you just pay attention to when the blushing happens normally you'll know it's about how she's feeling) on top of that, she probably doesn't want to be red like that for aesthetic reasons. lastly, it seems from the way she acts when the blushing happens (struggling to speak, fanning herself) that it's physically uncomfortable in some way. maybe really hot? you say you can imagine living with that, but i don't think you'd be as ok as you think you would. it's not really the same as your excema. for you it was about the physical discomfort and the bullying. for her it is physical discomfort, bullying, inability to pretend the bullies weren't getting to her, and inability to keep a secret (if she even thinks about the fact she's keeping a secret she'll turn red and if the person knows her they'll know she's keeping something from them. can you imagine having to deal with that in high school with your parents?). she doesn't need to change her mindset or become more mentally strong, she needs the medical treatment for the medical condition she has. easy as that. please do not include in the youtube video that most medications aren't worth it. i'd really hate for that to be put out into the public alex and george aren't wrong for reinforcing ellis' thatch delusion. no amount of telling her about reality is going to get rid of BRAIN DAMAGE, and she's not gonna be convinced anyway. you saw her, she would hear george say that he was a doctor and not thatch and it would go in one ear out the other. the only way to get her to cooperate is to play along. it's not going to make her any better or worse, because it's not a mental illness, it's damage to the brain. until more damage to the brain happens, she won't get worse. and until we find a way to reverse alzheimers, she won't get better. (as in, she won't come to understand that george isn't thatch) christina had NOT commited to have the baby. she had committed to abort it, she had an appointment, george was covering her shift, and meredith was going with her to be her person. she was 100% on side abortion. they've been talking about it for the last couple episodes. "it's hard being the one who's gone but it's not easy being the one who's still around" richard is basically telling ellis "i know it sucks to have lost yourself to alzheimers, but it also sucks to have to watch you get lost" izzie wasn't calling them assholes, she was very polite, i'm not sure why you thought she was. and she's right, they are in a separate group from her. she just wants to be a part of it. that's not wrong to say

So glad you're reacting to the show! I absolutely agree with you that how one feels about the blushing girl's case is about perspective. From your perspective, her not being able to dampen or conceal her inner emotional life is not a big deal. You're thinking about it as simply an uncomfortable skin condition. And while eczema is extremely common, her condition is incredibly rare. I also think for the majority of women learning to conceal our inner emotional life is not much of a choice but a necessity to move in a world which views our lives as already controlled by our emotions and doesn't take what we say seriously. And to be fair she is a girl who has lived with it for most of her life and as a teenager, much less a teenage girl, it's got to be hard to be a complete open book about every strong private thought, emotion, and feeling you're having and can't have any for yourself. It's actually not mean to meet dementia patients where they are. Since she's not lucid she's inside her constructed reality and sometimes (I know with my grandma it was the same way) it's best to join them so that they listen and hear you and don't harm themselves or try to resist your help/care. And I think you misunderstood somewhere but Cristina was 100 percent getting an abortion. She was very resolute. The only wavering she did was about whether or not to tell Burke she was pregnant.

7deadlybananas

I don’t remember the last part you’re talking about 😂 please help. I feel like I have to watch my reaction cuz I could swear I knew she wanted to get an abortion right away 😂

esme

maybe i misheard the part about you thinking she wanted to keep the kid, but i definitely remember you saying 65% 35% and thinking you meant in favor of keeping. even if not i tho i think she's 100% in camp abortion

shoniswife_

totally get where you thought cristina was wanting the baby, but she was always going to get the abortion. she was just feeling guilt over not telling burke.

The story with the baby and you talking about yourself as a baby hits hard. I was 9 weeks premature with a cleft lip and palate and a brain condition. The doctors told my mum she should have an abortion cause I wouldn’t live more than an hour if I was even born alive. I had brain surgery at 2 weeks old. I have ongoing facial reconstruction surgeries. I spent the first four months of my life in NICU

Shani Gribben

The particular condition I have with my face affects the way I breathe and the way I chew and swallow which I can deal with at the moment but the older I get the tougher it will become so it’s better to get surgical intervention while I’m young and healthy and able to withstand it. Also I’ve talked to lots of people with varying degrees of what I have and some can live a normal life without too much intervention but not all of us can
