Here's the artwork for ep 3 and a bunch of faces (probably my favourite thing to draw and paint!). It's more of a narration-driven episode and everything else is a spoiler. The events are still pretty much the same, but some details have been changed, to either deepen the story, or smooth out any plot holes - at least that's what I hope to achieve.

So some behind-the-scenes stuff.

I was doing some research on eye contact, and apparently (and this is something that I've known intuitively but have never put it into words), too little eye contact is creepy, and so is too much eye contact. But also, a strong, steady gaze from a person can be an indication of his/her confidence and strength of spirit. This is Tora (and Ulaan) to me, with his bold, unflinching, and often intense gaze. (Personally I'm terrible at making eye contact - but i try 😂)

Another thing I read about - apparently, studies have shown that along with ghosts, monsters, serial killers, etc., MEN are one of the things found to be 'creepy' to a woman, on a subconscious/instinctive level, mostly due to evolution/biology. On the contrary, men don't experience these feelings (at least not as strongly) towards women. I've observed from the comments, how female romance readers' 'creep radar' goes way up, and very quickly, when the male protag does certain things. And this makes so much sense to me, now.

Although I'm not a very science-y/intellectual person, these are things I like to read about and try to keep in mind. Working on my comics/stories requires me to use these little psychological tactics and mind tricks to nudge the reader into thinking/feeling a certain way. Which is also one of the biggest challenge I face when working on romances, and is what I'm always thinking about as I work. Sometimes I get it right, sometimes it just falls flat, because obviously not everyone is going to perceive something the way I hope they will (and that's okay) 😂

Anyway, I'm going to work on the next episode of Sugar & Spice now. Sorry to keep you guys waiting for the smut, and thank you all for being so patient with me! I took a short break a couple weeks back that I've talked about, and in order to catch up, I've been working intensively on MPL production work. Good news is I'm back on track again with the completion of this episode.

It looks amazing! Keep up the great work. I always know there's so much effort going in to the stories I read, but your little behind the scenes insights show just how much thought goes into every panel. Thank you for your hard work! 🥰

Jasi Steih

These last 3 panels are killing me 😍 *fans herself* Great work 😊

Janfu

Janell Cash

Tora can gaze longingly into my eyes anytime!

Schkaka

Looks beautiful! Tora can creep me out all he wants! Lol🤣🤣🤣

Lilithe

OMG always Perfect!!! But i think you did really a great job to go deeper with Tora and Poppy !🙌❤ as you already said it's a story you wrote and that has evolved with you if he does not make a mistake. All that to say that I understand, because I write a lot and I love to take a story that I have write and evolve the characters and in short to see how I have evolved! ok maybe not too coherent but I hope you understand me! all love ❤✌

Emily Basso

I absolutely love how much thought you put into each episode. You have the amazing talent of beautiful art, beautiful storytelling, and you polish it with well researched details that are both subtle and yet somehow so impactful to how we perceive your story. I, for one, also have a hard time making eye contact with people, and despite working on it I still suck at it. And it makes such a powerful impact on me when someone has that intensely perceptive stare like Tora and Ulaan. Thank you for caring so deeply about everything you do! It makes reading your work so fulfilling, not just adding more fluff to my already over cluttered brain 😂

Regarding eye contact, I once did this experiment in college trying to make and keep eye contact with people I walked past because and article said it 'increased awareness of others'. And it worked, uh, kinda ... I was super aware of the three people who meet and held my gaze for over 3 seconds for the rest of my college days. I was just super aware of thier presence, but it was strange because I never actually spoke to any of them.

Katia Lequy

The difference between the first time you draw and now is wonderful! Keep up the good work!! 😊

Alexandria Mitchell

Love it! Keep the good work. But don’t overwork yourself.

Amanda McClain

Yup eye contact is important with a look you can say hey you're attractive or I'm gonna hunt you down. And, actually it is a part of nonverbal communication. We actually communicate more nonverbal than we do with words. Body posture, gait, micro expressions, and eye contact are the main ones. And, personally I've used them to freak some people out sometimes it is really funny.

Kiana Downing

I hadn’t checked my email yet and decided to see if something was posted and I saw this and was like: FUCK YES

Dana

I love all of it.

Jes Gunn

I wish I could make art 1/20 as well as you do!

Eva

Your willingness to learn and your curiosity and desire to improve on your methodology are the base tenents of all scientific endevors! I think all of these qualities will enhance the story so much! And I'll be keeping an extra eye on tora and eye contact between characters hehe. Taking this approach certainly adds a layer of depth! Once you have a release date for ep 1 please let us know so I can mark my calendar. I am so excited!!! (And also for sugar and spice duhhh hehe)

Damn! The artwork is amazing. Oh la la Poppy's sexy lace bra! Also, very interesting research on eye contact.

LadyVondergeist

Lily.... You really have created THE perfect specimen of a human male... Seriously... I just can't 😭😭😭😵😵 Also Poppy is just gorgeous and exudesso much innocence and sensuality it's amazing 😍❤️

Noelle Hoffman

I am getting even more excited for MPL every time you post a sneak peak or give us a little behind the scenes !

I gotta say, I really enjoy Poppys new look. I think having a protagonist with a body type that is outside the typical "athletic" build is wonderfully inclusive to begin with. Poppy herself is so relatable as far as the struggle of trying to get through life in your own and going through life's growing pains. I think you really hit the mark as far as creating a character that everyone can appreciate. Thank you :) <3

Lyndi

I love the detail for Poppy’s hair, it looks so real! 😍 And Tora is hot, there’s no denying that. 😂

Irene A

Absolutely love it!! Your diligence never ceases to amaze me and makes you very admirable. I doubt there's that many artists that put the thought, research, and left and right brain work into their art like you do. And this is the perfect amount of teaser for us too! Makes me so eager for more, and at the same time gives my soul a gentle satisfaction.

NurseAmethyst

They're just beautiful! 🤗🤗 Also, I was like, OH. WHERE CAN I GET ME A BRA THAT? VICTORIA SECRET, GURRRRL?

Nicolette

OMGosh!! Everything is soo gorgeous!!! Poppy is sooo beautiful, and Tora is super HOT!! Thank you sooo much for this!! Your art has come such a long way, and everything is sooo beautifully done. I love the research that you do to make yourself a better artist. I’m sooo very blessed to be able to support you. You’re very talented!!

Michelle N.

I have major respect for creatives, whether they're authors, architects, photographers, animators, etc because I know how much work and thought goes in behind the scenes for those little details. The perspective, composition, colors, everything matters! Like I've said before, I find behind-the-scenes fascinating and enlightening. Thanks for sharing!

leviohsa

Holy shit, i had no idea about a lot of that but it all makes so much sense! That’s so interesting, and I respect that you look deep into this and consider what readers see.

Brandie Smith

I love the new images!!! I can’t wait see the new series

I meant to say this earlier but I’m choosing to post this right when I “should” get to bed. 😂 In a previous post, you mentioned that you don’t see where a masculine man is seen with a girly woman. I see it all the time in my culture. There is such an emphasis on masculinity that it can become quite toxic. On the other hand, women are expected to be docile and beautiful. I was told, as a woman, that I shouldn’t waste my time and go to school. Yes, this was not all to long ago. I’m only in my 30s! What I don’t always see is where a woman that is strong of character, not stylish, or “beautiful” end up with a “masculine” man. The same could be if the roles are opposite...though that is quite becoming a trend. I appreciated Poppy to be “kiddy” in which I translated to geeky, nerdish, or unaware of how beautiful she really is. I think we get caught up in labels that we can’t fathom an unlikely relationship. What if Poppy has what Tora lacks? What does Tora lack? I think I am also way to invested in this post because I closely related to Poppy. 😂 TMI but, I didn’t see myself as beautiful. It wasn’t until very close friends told me that I am. That I have a lot of assets that men appreciate. I was suddenly aware of myself on the outside. It took time for me to invest in how I look to be okay with the person in the mirror because I was in a culture that didn’t value me for my “geekiness”. I am by no ways not supporting the decisions you make, Lilydusk. It is all your vision. I just wanted to put this input because I really like who Poppy can potentially be. ❤️

When I read a romance, I always enjoy a masculine man with a feminine woman. I read an article once that women liked to be strong and independent, but they also liked to have a spouse to rely on for strength. The same article talked about how many women, despite wanting to have control on their every day life, liked to give up that control in the bedroom and liked men who took control. I could relate to the article. I'm sure the same isn't for every woman as you cant lump us all in one category, lol, but when you talk about masculine males and feminine females, it makes me think of this. I legit cant wait until their relationship grows. Like, I live for the NSFW stuff while I wait for your posts! Tora is so hot, powerful, intimidating, yet when he blushes or gets thrown off center by Poppy, it's so cute and makes him more enjoyable. I feel like hes great boyfriend material, despite his sketchy job hahaha.

Vonnie V

I can def see the quality in the coloring. The smoke and water effects sometimes look too real to me. Not critiquing but I notice ya know. The detail is there.

Harveybirdman

I feel like with female leads in the adult romance genre it is so hard to please readers. It’s like the audience wants a brave, strong, beautiful lead but not too brave or too strong, or too beautiful to the point that it’s unrealistic or not relatable. It is so hard to find that perfect middle ground to keep the readers happy. To me poppy is in that perfect middle ground of realistic and relatable. She isn’t really brave but can get her courage up when necessary or be strong willed when she believes in something. She is drawn beautifully (as all your characters are!) but isn’t unrealistically beautiful (if that makes sense). she is literally an everyday average woman like most of us are and that is what makes her character so wonderful. When it comes to a female leads appearance it is especially hard to please a majority female audience because we don’t like unrealistic beauty standards but at the same time we don’t want something that isn’t aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It’s like a catch 22 but you honestly nailed it.

Vane Mendoza

Wow these are gorgeous! I can't wait for the relaunch!

sleepless orchard

Mad respect for the amount of thought and research you put into this!

Jenny Bowen

I LOVE the new looks! Poppy looks so much like a sweetly gentle girl. Tora looks like a viciously dangerously man that has his carefully crafted facade shake and crack when he is faced with someone that balances things out like Poppy can. I can’t wait to see more! ❤️

Allison Shaw

Fun fact-- 6 seconds of unbroken eye contact indicate a desire for either sex or murder.

Cesarina

I love your dedication lily and how you study things and how perfect and delivering it becomes I really really admire you ❤️❤️

WHITNEY PERKINS

OMG! So im new to your patreon. I've been broke until now (and wanted access to the dirty stuff ;) ) but can i just say DAMN! IM SO EXCITED FOR THE REVAMP! I've followed this story line from the beginning and I'm so ready to see you featured!!! And you've made so many amazing improvements! I can't get over your talent!

This episode showed me so much about Tora. The scene where Poppy’s top pops open was gold because he genuinely looked surprised and was not looking at her creepy at all he even gave her his jacket. This told me that if he has something you need he will give it and that he doesn’t go looking to make people (women) uncomfortable. The scene where he falls on his butt shows he isn’t too jaded to be surprised and caught off guard. He is human and I loved that. When he crops the photo he took so that Ronzo doesn’t get the boob picture of Poppy. He respects a woman’s body and her privacy. He seems like a man that would not kiss and tell. He isn’t one to share other people’s business or show something that would hurt her willingly. This episode is when I got on the Tora train. Really adore this man and think he is amazing.
