Sooooooo. Hi. Hello. Everyone okay? Because I had the most intense physical reaction to this chapter. There is so much to talk about but I don’t have the brain space to break it all down now because JESUS THE ANXIETY. Now…. this isn’t a new feeling for me. There have been many chapters where I’ve cried, gotten angry, had heart palpitations, screamed, and felt any number of emotional combinations as I scrolled… but this one feeling of complete agitation was new. I’ve never *felt* true anxiety while reading a MPL chapter, mostly because Lily does such a great job giving us emotional breaks and humorous interludes… but these office scenes made me mirror Poppy’s feelings completely. And it was magical. Horrifying… but magical! It was gradual too, starting with context cues about Gil, slowly making me wary. The color shifts, her pauses, her worried expressions… And that damn cinematography that stops us from seeing Gil just POP OUT OF NOWHERE. This is why I like haunted houses but not horror movies. I want to control my line of sight, damn it!! And then seeing Poppy finally get hit with both Gil’s creepy aftermath and allllll the built up stress from the past few weeks (culminating in that horrific night in the alley … minus the great kiss obvi)? Just.. damn. Poppy’s actual reaction could be a number of things, but as a reader we tend interpret scenes in our own frame of reference and this was like an out of body experience watching myself have an anxiety attack.. The inability to reach out to friends, the feeling of being in another space completely- everyone far away (often I can’t explain it, but things just feel *wrong*)… the hand ringing and throat closing. Just… god. There was a lot of plot clues and Tora/Quincey wonderful moments (LOL to Tora’s face when Quincey snaps back and calls him a killjoy) but really- this chapter made me appreciate Poppy’s resilience, her ability to THINK clearly in high stress situations, and her reliance on her intuition. She trusts herself, and even despite Gils asshole power moves (ignoring her hard work/proposals and only superficially praising her) she’s PROUD of her good work! Gah. I need to calm down and think, but what an amazing talent Lily possesses- to be able to make us, as readers, truly feel the emotions of the characters. And more than that- we don’t just feel, we burn for them. These chapters elicit passionate responses. This is an empathetic reading wet dream and my emotional heart is bursting with stimulation!! GAHHHHH ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥

I have no idea what Julri’s relationship to the rest of Poppy’s family is, but her grandma, Mirabelle, and Danae were tearing off his doll limbs on her birthday—sO I’m really shocked she’s learning this news from freaking JULRI. It makes me wonder if it’s false... if it is in fact false, I really can’t imagine what Julri wants from poppy. Either way, this is bad news. Because either her grandma is actually in the hospital or Julri is trying to reel poppy back in for some unknown reason. Either way, I hope Poppy gets a chance to tell Julri off, although I’m afraid she’ll feel like she’s ‘lost her voice’ around him because of how much control Julri used to have over her emotionally :(

And from the beginning of mpl, we know poppy has a really good judge on character, id suspect she is also good at feeling a person’s aura and gil’s is BLACK AS MIDNIGHT. His intentions are bad bad….like can we look at this panel with gil smiling with that yellow background??? Its a BRIGHT sunny yellow, associated with cheerful disposition…. But his neck and below are lit in this false brightness but his head and fake smile is in the dark shadow. Thats where his head is, he has really dark intentions despite that cheerful look on his face. He keeps doing that “did i scare you” bs…. He is truly trying to get a reaction out of poppy because of the notebook - of course poppy has nothing to do with it but he thinks she does.... So continuing on to the panel where gil is standing next to poppy at her desk the lighting is what i believe is foreshadowing, gil is literally standing over her as he is standing in the shadow, poppy is in the white light but we see those shadows on the window blade casted along her…..kinda like bars if you will…. Like idk bout yall but i feel like gil might hold the notebook against her or idk - use as black mail or some sort of tool to cage her in to try to do his dirty work. Im glad poppy can put on a cheerful face at at blink of an eye. Really a skill if you think about it...we see gil saying bye in the office but everywhere he goes hes shrouded in darkness… i cant help but scream GO HOME ALREADY….HIS AURA is terrible and not needed! Go and be banished to the darkness!! Poppy feels like theres a veil between her and erdene and jacob. Thats true - her feelings are accurate. She is being targeted and zeroed in on…. Gil aint worried about the other two. Then we see the flashback of her in the alley with tora where she ws in real danger but tora was with her and she didnt feel shaken CAUSE HE WAS THERE. Her gut feeling is valid af. Her stress and fears are affecting her physically...she should really listen to those trigger signs. Ok ------THE JULRI MESSAGE ---- for me - i dont believe thats julri…..what is the likelihood her cheating ex bf who done HER wrong would want to change his number….i suspect is someone else who is working under gil that is trying to get poppy to get to a shady location… and if something really did happen to grandma - she should be smart enough to call mirabelle and danae to confirm… i dont believe that text for a second. Look at the darkness surrounding the phone!! Ok so look at shady ass gil….yup a hairbrained scheme!! Yes - shady shady shady…. Thought you could get away with it a shitty plan to steal money from ppl….and he put his wife in danger by involving with mob im sure…. Shady ass gil!!! He needs to die!! But lets see what he does cause like i wanna catch him red handed too…. Ahhhh then bliss if tora pulls trigger, or slash throat, or pummel???🔫🔪🪓👊🏽👊🏽🩸🩸🙏 Any will do!!!!

So much a anxiety in this one... I love where this is going !! Poor Tora cant seem to get away from this notebook 😂 I guess he really is the brains of the operation: just look at that file folder! a man that knows how to organize his papers 😍😍😍 jk.... but not really... I keep seeing more and more parallels between Quincey and his dad as time goes on. Calling Tora "the brains around here", his intense stare, his quick shifts in mood, being frivolous about offing people... damn.... I cant decide if he has a dark sense of humor or is just insensitive 😥 would Tora need to kill Gil because he knows about the notebook or because he can connect the notebook to Poppy 🙊?? I'm not sure Poppy would agree with Tora killing for her 😓 Gil is trying to turn off his creepiness and making small talk, but our lady is way too perceptive! Poppy having a panic attack 🥺🥺🥺 In the last episode, I thought there was an error in some of the panels because the windows were black. But after reading this one, I think the black windows reflect Poppy's panicking state. She starts to have tunnel vision and the windows seem like they're closing in on her. It really emphasizes her distress. Uhh... that creepy guy in the alley seemed more scary to me than the group of thugs... there are so many creepy dudes in Narin !!! Where is tiger boy when you need him 🦸‍♂️🐯. Erdene to the rescue in the meantime: pulling Poppy put of her panic attack 🥰! I have so many Qs abouts this text: why Julri? Does he work at the hospital? Why is his phone number unknown but not blocked? I would have blocked him ASAP in Poppy's position. I guess Poppy deleted his number but didnt block it? Could this be a ploy to get her back to moon bright? Will we get a Tora-Julri showdown??? I hope so. 🙌❤ Looking forward to next Friday!!!! I miss Tigerpops together already.... it's only been like 2 episodes but still 😅

Here’s my theory for next chapter which is likely far fetched: Poppy has the message open Erdene will see where it’s from and advise poppy that julri is probably lying and to think about all those times he claimed he never meant the shit he said and was “Lying” Poppy being her normal usually self will likely say “I know that might be the case but I honestly want to check on my granny to make sure, she probably be told by erdene to call and poppy will attempt to, but granny won’t pick up, poppy will get worried and leave, and erdene will likely text Danae and Mirabelle to confirm what is up and if all is good with their family. Whom will likely confirm last time they heard from her she was fine. Which erdene will tell them about julri texting poppy, and they will both get angry and call likely. Poppy then will make her way down stairs to rush to her granny’s side, Quincey will open the document and read it and look up a Tora and say “Bitch No!” In shock, and Tora will say something prolly like “You think the files fucking lie, that prick for sure is numbered.” And Quincey will read and look up and see poppy coming out the front of he building and say to Tora “Hey, what’s poppy doing?” Poppy will run pass the parking lot and that’s when Tora will stop her like “Hey, hamster where the fuck are you running off to? This isn’t your normal hamster wheel or some shit like that.” And poppy will have tears in her eyes from the worry and all the bad memories with julri, and Tora will get out the car. After I don’t know the rest that’s basically my theory for next chapter. 😂😂😂😂😂

Something in my guts tellin' me -- maybe those crimes committed outside of Narin City is related to that one flashback when Poppylan and her Papa were on the tree looking out and a white van drove past. Her anxiety is THROUGH THE ROOF in this ep! My goodness Pops, take a breather! She's pushing herself so hard and not giving herself a chance to process ANY of what's been happening. I'm glad she's recognizing that a bit, but with this news about Granny, she's still not going to have a moment of down time. I do hope she asks Tora for a ride out to Moonbright, partially because we know we all want more Tora/Poppy time but also when she inevitably has to face Julri, having Tora there will hopefully give her the confidence to help bring a little closure to that horrible chapter of her life (and mean we're one step closer to this ship setting saaaaiiillllll!) And I 100000% support our naked crime fighting team of Quincey and Tora! What sacrifices need to be made to make this happen? What deities require offerings?? I loved Quincey's face calling Tora a party pooper. I kinda feel bad for Gil's wife. She clearly didn't sign up for the bullshit he pulled and is miserable and terrified and clearly just wants to have never been involved in whatever shady shit, and have been able to live normal life. Clearly he's not involved with the Balthuman clan, but could it be Nine Daggers? Could Gil know about the notebook of he knew Goliath? Are we finally going to find out where Goliath is hiding? Maybe he's hiding somewhere back in or near Moonbright? I feel like the clans would have made a show about closing a loop like Goliath if he were dead already. Someone would be bragging about that. I'm not thrilled about Poppy hearing about Granny from Julri. It could track that she deleted his number as soon as she got on the train. But I'm with everyone else, why didn't she hear it from her friends? That didn't quite make sense, unless they or Granny didn't hear about her breakup? More I can't remember if she told them...

Uff...that was intense. I love how Lily drew that rising bad feeling Poppy got and her maybe anxiety attack after that. I felt all the way with her and my pulse rised just reading that scene. I can't with that message from Julri. While it could be that Mirabelle and Danae are on flight duty, so Julri is the next one to get such informations and the chance to message Poppy, I feel like there is something fishy going on. It could be that pent up feeling I got while watching Poppy getting an anxiety attack and kinda losing her voice. It kinda switched my mind into not trusting anything. But we will see what's that text really about in the next chapter (hopefully).

Laying out some observations here to get your perspectives-- So Gil was tied to a much larger business outside of Narin city. Maybe Gil is from Nine Daggers, or his previous job was tied to Nine Daggers and other clans - either way, it was tied to Goliath. Who is either from Nine Daggers or was affiliated, but somehow was working with or was from Tora's clan at some point in his life. Considering fish boy Gil's slimeyness, he was probably scamming clients in order to get schmutz from Goliath and co and sell it to start fires within clan territories (hence why he and his are always on the run and getting hounded). E.g. remember Goliath worked at an old lady's restaurant where he left Mobi Suzuki media in the old lady's storage? Old lady's shitty son Nicolaus (ugly velvety suited guy found, and likely capitalized on to get his new suit and new heartbroken Jessica newcomers fan clublub). Now some gaps are the flashback panel with Tora looking like he was taken by cops. And how he's known to Inspector Lane. I wonder who the big mafia boss is from Nine Daggers. And if this new "LR" rosey floral crew is related at all to anything Poppy. Oooooooh the plot thickens! Back to fish boy Gil, looks like things turned out sour for him. So he swam away and made Giant Goldfish Publishing so that a small fish splashed on big Narin City. Stringing in the past few months of events, the legendary Goliath enlisted help from Tora -- who didn't want to help Goliath, but Tora being a loyal brother and true with his basic inner core values took on the duty despite it all. As it stands, our legendary Goliath was literally a *fallen* angel in most recent panels-- falling into an abyss of papers that can probably cause and wreak havoc to light up Ares street like wildfire. As an aside-- gotta say that the panels evoke inner dialogue of anxiety to a T. Gil in his paranoia and the nervous blues and gray. Poppy and her badumps and flashback feelings of predatory behavior. Ugh, MPL is the best part of the weekend! Lilydusk, your artistry is exquisite.

I agree that it’s weird that Julri called Poppy about Granny, instead of Mirabelle or Danae, but it also makes sense. They are flight attendants and may not be around. He and Poppy were together for years, so he knows Granny. He also still lives in Moonbright, a small town, so probably heard about Granny and called Poppy. As for the unknown number, he could have a number she doesn’t have because they broke up, and don’t keep in contact. Yes, he is a cheating, gaslighting fuckface, but maybe he does have a teeny, tiny heart somewhere in there and did the right thing. It could also be a ploy, playing the good guy and “being there” for Poppy in her time of crisis, to get back in her good graces. It would also be immensely satisfying if Tora and Quincey accompanied her to Moonbright. I have this image of Poppy walking into the hospital in slow motion, flanked by the two hottest men in Narin, while a mysterious wind blows their hair around. She sails right past a dumbfounded Julri, and, as they pass, Tora pins him with a death glare that makes him piss his pants. 😂 Another wild theory is that Granny was a victim of Gil’s former business, which sounds like it might have been some sort of Ponzi scheme. She may have lost a lot of money because of him, and the stress landed her in the hospital. 😳 Or even crazier theory: Julri was an employee of Gil’s former “business” and was the reason why Gil gave Poppy a job. Poppy and Julri were still together when she started at Giant Goldfish, and Gil may have agreed to hire Poppy as a favor to Julri, thinking she was a clueless, small-town country bumpkin, because that’s how Julri described her. 🤔

When I saw the sneak peak of this episode my heart was racing and I was at work (I work at a hospital so nothing much if something happened to me😅😂) and then getting home and reading it holy crap I wanted to hug Poppy so badly, Gil you fucking creep As for the message...ahhh...could it be that Gil know's Julri and it's actually him claiming to be Julri or is it really Julri and the reason it say's unknown number be because Poppy deleted him off her contacts and she doesn't remember his phone number well? If it's Julri I know for a fact that it's a lie cause while yeah Poppy may not have been able to hear it from Mirabelle or Danae since they're flight attendants wouldn't the hospital be the one to call Poppy? This was one of the most stressful and uneasy episodes to read, from the tension in the car with Tora and Quincey to the sudden shift in color and atmosphere when Poppy is experiencing a possible anxiety/panic attack, and the appearance of the anonymous sender of that text to Poppy. I think the development of Gil being a threat to Poppy is a great parallel to how Tora initially believed that he would bring danger to Poppy’s world. It calls back to when Tora pictured that one guy from the pool hall (Yadori?) harming Poppy in the future, but it was in his imagination. Now there is a very real and nearby threat to Poppy and it’s coming from someone who was already in her world pre-Tora. There’s a huge change that if Poppy and Tora didn’t meet when she came across the notebook that day, she might be in even more danger right now without him. Of course, we’ve seen how smart and capable she is at navigating precarious situations, and she knows how to handle herself and read people’s character really well, but having Tora by her side now is an added layer of protection. I’m going to drink some wine now because that was an incredibly anxiety-inducing read, and I’m already dying for next week’s chapter! 😅🍷🍷🍷

I’ve been MIA lately because my brain was off orbiting Saturn or something after working from home the last 14 (?!) months and counting. 🪐🧠🪐🧠🪐🧠 I’ve basically been functioning about as well as a 1910 Model T Ford that fell off a cliff and sat there rusting in a dry gulch for the last century or so (wheeze). 🥴🥴🥴 However, my brain finally pinged tonight and I have THOUGHTS. Our chapter opens with our heroes sitting outside in a bright red car in the bright, bright sunlight because they have facts and receipts on Gil, the Nubby Chinned Creep. It looks as though Gil was part of a massive pyramid scheme that conned millions out of its customers. This isn’t a small time, half-assed con - this is major. As Tora and Quincey discuss the details of what they know so far about Gil, the interior of the car gets darker until it looks as though night has fallen outside. Gil may not prove to be the Big Bad, but he’s connected to it, and now Poppy is on their radar. When Gil’s current plan crumbles, he’s going to try to shove Poppy out in front of the speeding train to deflect blame onto her and off of himself, as he’s already mentally started to do. If this were a silent movie (staying with the 1910s theme here), Gil would be the villain twirling his mustache as he tied Poppy to the railroad tracks. Quincey’s cape fantasy could come true in this scenario, since he’d be the blond hero riding on the cow catcher as Tora drives the train. Quincey’s “pew-pew” gun fingers close-up is very reminiscent of the famous closing shot in the 1903 film “The Great Train Robbery'' when the cowboy shoots into the camera. 🤠🤠🤠 Sorry - last silent film reference, I promise. ANYWAY, Poppy is her own heroine in this movie, and I don’t think Gil is going to get the chance to tie her to any train tracks. Why? Well, because Poppy is very aware that something isn’t right, and that something is Gil. Being extremely observant and quite sensitive, Poppy can read the vibes coming off of Gil like a tsunami wave. Her brief panic attack is probably partly a delayed response to the events of the evening before, but she also senses Gil’s anger from behind a closed door and subconsciously knows that he is harboring some extreme dislike towards her, even if she doesn’t have a clue as to why. She has also connected the dots on some level that Tora didn’t show up when Gil was in the office. As the realization dawns on her that the energy in the office is way off, everything grows darker and the room closes in on Poppy. She knows - viscerally - that danger is close by and that danger has something to do with Gil. She feels as though a veil has dropped between herself and Erdene and Jacob because it has. Erdene and Jacob aren’t in any sort of danger, while Poppy is. Poppy is alone in this for the moment. Erdene and Jacob haven’t any clue what’s going on, and Tora and Quincey aren’t in the building. Once Gil leaves, the office floods with sunlight again, until Poppy gets a text from an unknown number. Do I think she’s blocked Julri’s number? Yes. Do I think this is Julri texting her? Nope. Why would Julri have any contact with Poppy’s grandmother. Poppy’s grandmother knows what Julri did to Poppy, and would only contact Julri to smack him upside the head with some truth and a wiffle bat. Just as Tora has been doing his homework on Gil, someone connected to Gil has been doing their homework on Poppy. This is most likely a trap, which is most likely connected to the notebook, and most likely set up by the people who are hounding Gil and his wife. Or perhaps not!!! 😬😬😬 [ladylibris's brain has left the chat and returned to orbit]

Okay y’all……I have soo many theories in my head right now. So yes majority of this discussion page was right about Gil being involved in some shady business. , but I didn’t think in no way it was to this extent which means he not only f**ked over innocent people but also the non innocent ones. Also to mention his wife/girlfriend whoever that is nagging to him about what he’s done, and how they are still being chased by these people. I guess he feels the pressure at home but idc about Gil, esp if he’s planning on hurting Poppy. Now for the flash from the past Julri…..I find it very unsettling that it’s him texting Pops, and not her two best friends back home…..it would be really F**ked up if her G’ma isn’t sick and it’s a ploy to get her back, hence why I think Tora needs to go back home with her…..hell even if it’s Quincy or Erdene who goes back with her. Now for Tora and Quincy…..boy did they have time to dig up info on Gil….my guess is that Tora and Quincess will definitely be on high alert , hopefully a way to take over his business or to find a way to get that notebook. If Gil tries anything hopefully the Tiger is there. Now it just opens up a whole new door for all these other organizations to come out the wood works, and will it be because of Gill or something else? Honestly I was excited, not what I was expecting, but definitely worth it.

The plot thickens this episode! But before we get into that I wanted to take a moment to appreciate the background/landscape/immense detailing that goes into this comic. I’m sitting here just looking at the opening panel to this episode appreciating how much work goes into this story as a whole. It’s...awe inspiring, Lily! Secondly, looks like Tora did a decent job of parking this time. 😉 And I’m always appreciative of Tora in a tight turtle neck. Yup, zero complaints here! Though between Tora and Quincey through their part, it was a serious test to my concentration to remember to read the story and not just ogle it. I mean...dayum! Anyone else look at the eye candy, then go back and read it? My first ‘read through’ is ogling/detailing. Second actual reading. Third, I’m searching and hunting for clues and tin foil hat theories. It’s all good fun! Ah, so good chances Tora DID get into a fight with the rose tattoo thugs in the previous chapter, judging by that bandaged knuckle. Interesting we don’t see any other marks on him, so I seriously wonder how the other guys look. Ok, ogling aside for now because this conversation between the two is eye opening! The way they both dumb down their intellect for others, is intriguing. Quincey’s got that in common with Poppy doesn’t he? I’ve always suspected/known there’s some serious take no shit to Quincey and I’m really REALLY enjoying seeing this side to him. And just their interaction alone in general. Their relationship fascinates me. But I’m getting off track. Saying Gil is shady as hell...gave me shudders. Also, Heebie Jeebies is such an underrated term. LOL! As if the way Gil was thinking about Poppy previously wasn’t nauseating as hell, add in he made Quincey unsettled and I’m on even higher alert than before. He IS a slimey little fish boy. Tora says, “Nothin’ much...” then goes on to pull out a thick arse file! And as Quincey says, we’re finally circling back to the notebook again. So which clan did he fuck around with? When do we find out? Will they fill Poppy etc in? Questions questions... “Now all we need are masks and capes with absolutely nothing underneath - “ QUINCEY! 😂😂 Lily, you’re drawing that right? Puh-lease! I need to see Quincey’s dorky grinning face and Tora’s total blank one while their wearing these costumes. 😏 That hilariously timed moment accompanied by our favourite blondes totally non-plussed expression at being flattened by Tora’s snark just added to what was already a pretty funtastic moment. He is a humourless killjoy but we love our tiger anyway. “Are you gonna wait for him to make his next move...or are you gonna...peww peww.” GOOD question Quincey! Yeah Tora, what ARE you going to do next? I managed to get that out while being super impressed with Quincey’s finger gun skills and boss level expression. I’m watching you Quinceton; you’re going to steal my heart if I don’t watch it. Back to Poppy and I feel shook for her. Her instincts are sharp and I wonder how much they’re going to come into play coming up. I could feel her nervous agitation, the shaking as she remembered how she’d felt after Gil was killing her with his looks. And then the fucker creeps up on her and I was ready to run for Poppy! I hate how he kind of crowds her in, hovering over her like that. There’s not enough personal space between them. She’s stuck between the desk, side cupboards and him. And the way he has his hands in his pockets, doesn’t come across as casual at all if that’s what he as going for. Felt like a relief when he left! Now it’s a question of when he’ll be back? 😫 I can relate to Poppy feeling like there’s a veil between her and everything else. And although there’s a chance it was a slight delay in the previous days stress, I’d think picking up on Gil’s super creepy behaviour was what just triggered that attack. I wonder if she’ll tell Erdene how he just made her feel. What really happened just then. Would she have if they had gone for coffee straight away? I fully appreciated her wanting to get out of the environment, to break the cycle. Clear her mind. But wait! Cause then she gets the mother of all texts that makes the fandom go wild!! Julri did NOT just pull that granny card with her to get her back to Moonbright! I remember reading that and feeling so much rage and surety that Poppy wouldn’t fall for that bullshit. But also, good for her for deleting that prick from her phone! That teeny tiny bit of relief took the edge off. But real low blow of the dickwad. What a cliffhanger to leave us with. We get a tiny bit of insight into fish boy’s life. Poppy is left grappling from a dodgy text and Tora and Quincey are contemplating what to do with this new fish boy info. As stated before, the plot THICKENS! And the new developments are making me grip my seat in anticipation. 😁
