oh my god, I feel like not a lot of things happened in this episode, but rather this was an ep that is "setting things up" for future events. there's that roller coaster with Julri and now we know that he wants Poppy back/is going to bother her for sure, Erdene and Jacob are definitely sus, especially when Erdene said "WE"... as in, Can "we" trust you? And Tora JUST missed Poppy heading for the station. I hope he catches up to her and give Julri that magnificent smackdown that we have all been waiting for!!

I Love how Tora just threw that door in and threw Jacob aside, not thinking of anyone else but Poppy. That was such a good ending to the chapter, but ugh now to wait for his reaction. She's more than likely going into a trap, probably setup by Gil or Julri. Good for her for standing up for herself and telling him off. She knows she deserves better. Erdene probably overhead a conversation from gils office about poppy. I can imagine she wasn't sure how to tell her, without scaring poppy. I definitely think Gil did something to his wife or at least threatened her. It wouldn't stun me if Julri and Gil knew each other. Poor Jacob probably felt like a tossed up Salad lol. For someone that couldn't think of a clever retort in episode 1, she sure found a good one this time! Go Poppy go!! Confronting Julri must have been..... overwhelming to say the least. Her wall punch made me think back to Tora in episode 36, when he punched into a wall and the strawberry hairtie. Tora reached out to Poppy then, but Poppy didn't do the same this time (as far as we know at least). I wonder if there's a parallel here....

Theory: DENE is or could be PREGNANT by Damien. Explaining the morning after pills especially if she’s not feeling good. What Dene is hiding is she could know what caused her grandma to be in the hospital probably Belle and Danae told Dene her grandma was sick and didn’t want to worry poppy so they asked Dene not to tell poppy, another portion of that theory could be she knows about the mafia ordeal and she knows about Damien being in the mafia and also about Quincey. It will really be interesting to see what part Dene plays in this next chapter. I think Tora is gonna meet poppy at the train station like the first meet, and pick her up he’s gonna tear down the place knowing she’s going to visit her ex and rush to her side. Tora might just hold himself back from kicking julri ass or he might show that side of himself to poppy, and other theory is granny is sick and just like in true blood when sookie nan dead I believe poppy granny isn’t dead but part of me believe she’s extremely sick and dying. I’m sorry this might be sad. But that’s my theory.

At first I thought she was just trying to be a supportive friend, knowing Julri is likely going to ambush Poppy at the hospital when she goes to check on Granny. But I can't help but think she overheard something at the club, or that Damien let some clan details slip during their rendezvous. Poppy gets her info by being sweet and innocent, Erdene uses her feminine wiles. But bringing Jacob into whatever secret? I think that's just her protecting Poppy's privacy. Erdene & Pops have a different friendship than Poppy has with Jacob. But how did Tora find out Poppy left?? I mean I'm LIVING for that entrance and literally knocking Jacob out of his chair (Jacob will continue to live in fear of Tora 🤣) but did Dene text him or Quincey? I can't imagine he put some kind of tracker on her, and I don't think Gyu would have been tracking her like that either. Erdene 👀 Okay, at first I thought she might be in with Gil and now feel bad. I mean there’s still the thing that her dad is apparently super well connected? Why would Gil wanna hire her if that could draw a celebrity/politician whatever’s attention? So maybe, is Erdene’s dad up to shady business too? But then she asks Jacob if they can trust him and that she overheard something. Something at the club? Maybe she figured out that Tora and the rest are mafia? But if it was about Tora, why be so casual when Poppy first arrives at the office? So maybe she overheard the thuglets talk about some shady stuff? Okay! Ok, ok, ok, I gotta calm my nerves🥵 I was pretty late on reading the latest episode today and I literally just finished! My tinfoil hat grows steadily!!! I have so many theories that I don’t even know where to start🤯🤯🤯 I’m so impressed by Poppy’s cool to not panic and first call everyone else and even the hospitals, before even considering calling Julri, like 💅💅💅That would’ve definitely been my first impulse! Maybe Julri works in the hospital and that’s how he knows, because Poppy’s family really hates Julri now and wouldn’t stay in touch with him. Also I doubt that Julri truely cares about Poppy’s granny. While Poppy is worried sick he uses the opportunity cuz he knows she’d listen. Instead of telling her what’s up with her granny he’s being a selfish a$$hole, doesn’t even mean a word of what he says! He even dares to call her babe🤬🤬🤬 Can I also said how inappropriate I find it too make a photo of a sick person in hospital while that person is asleep? I know he wanted to convince her with it but still I find it disgusting🤮 So here’s my first theory: Could Julri and Gil somehow be connected? Was Julri supposed to distract Poppy for some reason? Could Gil have ordered Julri to call her? Because that would obviously help Gil and the timing is perfect. This would also explain Julri’s half-hearted attempt of an apology, calling her for the first time in weeks after she left Moonbright! Back to Gil! My god the guy is giving me chills! I don’t think he killed his wife but I wonder where she’s now!

Back at the office Poppy tells Erdene and Jacob that she’d go to visit her Granny, that’s when Erdene starts to act weird and I have 3 theories for that: ErdeneXMirabelleXDanny “We” is them. Maybe Erdene found out that Poppy isn’t blood-related to Granny? Maybe that’s why Erdene wanted to go with her, because once she arrives at the hospital she won’t be getting any information about Granny’s condition, since she’s not a relative? Still it’s weird! If this was the case I would’ve expected Erdene to be more insisting 🤔🤔 I hope Granny is just getting a plastic surgery and wanted to surprise Poppy!!! ErdeneXDamien Since Erdene gained the information the day prior it could’ve been something Damien had said, as she was spending the night with him. Maybe it’s something from his past, when they used to drive around Moonbright. Subtle appearance of Tora at the office 😂😂😂 Poor Jacob, I hope he didn’t hurt himself too much 🩹🩹🩹I’m sure Tora will apologize at one point for it. I wonder what he was up to for the past 30 minutes 🤔 Did he drop of Quincey somewhere? Did he follow Gil? The only thing I know for sure is that I want Julri to make acquaintance with Toras fist ✊👊

Wild, panic induced theory: Granny was kidnapped and the hospital bed and phone call are staged. They set it up to lure her to Moonbright. Agree with everyone who said Tora had better be waiting for her at the station. I think I might just die if he doesn’t meet her there and keep her safe. And Erdene! Who is “we” that is asking to trust Jacob?? Girl, why??? I TRUSTED YOU!! 😭😤 Lily, don’t ever suggest that it’s not worth the coins. This episode is worth double- triple even. Hell, I would transfer my entire bank account worth of coins to you if you could speed up time and make it next week already. The twists are phenomenal. Anxiety-inducing but awesome.

So, clearly I’m not someone who keeps their cool in tense situations because in my head I’m running around in circles yelling “Oh, my god! Oh, my god! Oh, my god!” I’m completely fixated on why Tora is suddenly burst in looking for Poppy. What happened that he went looking for her? Was it something he and Quincey uncovered about Gil that made him realize she’s in danger? Did she text Quincey to tell her about Granny and that she will be away for a day or two, and he told Tora, who came to drive her to Moonbright? If so, was this chivalry or because he knows something might be going on? Does he suspect Erdene? Will Erdene tell him what’s going on?? And can he make it to Moonbright in time? I did some quick calculations (math ain’t my thing either - no chill and no math) but I think I may be on to something. I live about 60 miles out from a major city in a densely populated area. The train to the city takes about 2 hours, but with stops. Driving is about an hour and half with moderate traffic. Poppy said the high speed train (no stops) is about 2 hours. Erdene was pacing for 30 minutes after Poppy left. Poppy said she had 20 minutes to make the train as she left. So, Poppy has only about a 10 minute head start. Having no idea the distance between Narin City and Moonbright, I’m going to say Tora can make it if he drives like a maniac, which we all know he can. 😳

[Cracks knuckles] Okay, I’ve let this percolate in my brain for the last 30 hours or so, let’s take a look shall we? I’m calling this episode “Poppy and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad, Downright Shitastic Day.” We open with a very subdued color palette, which reflects the dread that Poppy is feeling as she looks down at her phone. If Julri had a spirit animal, it’d be a leech, because that troglodyte just sucks the joy right out of Poppy. Poppy is having an awful day for several reasons. Firstly, there was Gil, the potential wife-murderer. I totally agree with @larosamorada and others that Gil’s wife may have been made to disappear from his life permanently - that was my first thought as he rose to his feet and stood over her. The expression on her face gave me chills. She knows exactly what Gil is capable of, and is projecting that knowledge to us through the tension in her face and the blankness in her eyes. I hope she hasn’t been killed, but she’s a liability to Gil. After we get the close-up of her face, everything fades to black before we rejoin Gil in the present. Cue Amy WInehouse: 🎶 We only said goodbye with words I died a hundred times You go back to her And I go back to black 🎶 Okay, that’s taken super out of context, but you get my meaning. 😔😔😔 Gil gets in a cab and leaves, probably off to plot and plan some more. Poppy shortly follows him outside, to fall headfirst into the second reason her day is the worst. Being a very smart, very capable, and very observant woman, Poppy reaches out to every option that she can think of before calling that unknown number, who, in fact, turns out to be Julri. Can I just say here that Jurli is SUCH an epic douchenozzle for using Poppy’s grandmother (and an unknown phone number) to manipulate Poppy into contacting him? Because this is what this is - pure manipulation. Also? “I love you, babe.”?? Just, no. Gross. 🤢🤮 I broke out into an allergic rash reading that. Run, don’t walk, from anyone who feeds you a line like that. 🏃‍♀️💨💨💨 Everything that Poppy feels and says and does in the next seven or so panels is absolutely correct and in character for her. Remember that she’s a steel magnolia - she may fool some people into thinking that she’s as soft as down, but she has a spine of steel and is very, very brave. Women are so programmed in our cultures to please, to be polite, to concede - and we need more representations of strong, independent women in all aspects of media and pop culture. Part of the reason why I love this series so much is that Poppy is so strong, smart, and independent. Yes, it’s a romance, but Poppy is a heroine who will handle her own shit, thank you very much. She flames Julri into a crispy blister, and then hangs up on him. Perfection. Once we’re back up into the office, we see the dichotomy between the male and female experience in Erdene and Jacob. Erdene flashes instantly to what we all have been thinking about that call, while Jacob downplays it. I think there’s a few ways to interpret Erdene’s concern and question to Jacob about whether he can be trusted. I think her Spidey sense is tingling as a friend who knows a LOT about Julri as well as about Tora and Quincey’s crowd (I’m sure Damien told Erdene *something* about his life and friends). She’s probably terrified that Poppy is rushing like a train (literally) into a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad, and downright shitastic situation. I don’t think Jacob has that same insider information, hence the question from Erdene about whether she can trust him. I’m very curious about what caused Tora to barrel up the stairs and through the door like a rabid bull. A call or text? Something definitely happened, because as far as he knew, Poppy was still sitting at her desk. 🤔🤔🤔 We’ll see!!

Now that the anxiety has elevated a bit, I can say “welcome to act two of MPL everybody!” I try to ignore the bunch of theories that crowd my brain at the moment and take a step back to look at the story as a whole. In act one we have met the characters, caught a glimpse of their worlds, and the way they lead their lives. They have acquainted with each other, became close, developed trust and affection for one another. We learned that Poppy leads a “normal” life, safe from dangers, the kind of which are a harsh reality in Tora’s life. We learned that each of them has traumas to overcome, internal battles that led them to become the people we see today, who deal with obstacles in their own way. Poppy by pretending she’s naive and delicate, Tora by intimidation and violence. Both of them use silence when their instinct is on high alert, putting up walls to protect their inner selves. Easy enough, right? Now let’s flip the narrative and see that Poppy’s life is not safe. And not because of her connection to Tora and Quincey as many would think, but because a true real life cannot be safe from regular people, who try to own you or manipulate you (Julri), or harm you because you get in their way (Gil). Because true life is not a fudging fairy tale. In the same way, the other side of the mirror in Tora’s life is that there are people who try to be “normal” as in Gyu working multiple jobs, Neko-Chan the mother hen of thuglet kids, Brian, Damien, and the thuglets gang, who revealed themselves as pretty decent guys at the club party. I will not get tired of saying this but “don’t judge by appearances, people!” Back to Poppy’s bad news and her way of dealing with it. She does the smart thing first - calls every hospital in Moonbright and probably in the area to look for her Granny, calls granny’s neighbors and friends, calls her friends Dany and Mirabelle. Only when her search is without results, and she has no other choice, she decides to call the unknown number (which is pretty suspicious as it is - we assume she deleted Julri’s number from her phone and Julri knows that? We assume Julri got a new phone to harass Poppy or we may assume that is not his number at all and there is a third party involved.) She decides to face her trauma. This is not easy considering she hasn’t got the time to process everything in the few weeks (months) since she broke up with Julri. On top of that, their first interaction is over Granny’s possible illness/hurt. And our girl pushes through and gives the scumbag a piece of her mind, this time the perfect retort, this time she didn’t freeze, although she was shaking, she stood her ground for herself. Evo-fucking-lution. I am so frickin’ proud of her. And she releases the pent-up anger in a well-directed left punch to an undeserving wall. Ow! Well done, Pops! I am wondering if Tora saw this from the car. Only that the show is not over yet, her Granny is indeed in a hospital, as the next phone call confirmed and the piece of trash ex used this to get her back to Moonbright. Which she again, has no choice but to go there. She will probably have to confront Julri face to face, the thing she dreads the most. (“good thing there’s enough physical distance between us to cut him off firmly” - only now there will not be enough distance, will there, Pops? Oof!) Erdene is worried and justified to be. The hesitation when she asked to go with Poppy makes me think she knows a lot more, which is confirmed almost immediately when she asks Jacob if “we” could trust him. “We” being Erdene and Poppy? Erdene and Poppy’s friends Dany and Mirabelle? Either way, it involves the relationship Poppy had with Julri. I don’t believe she has any idea about Gil’s schemes or the notebook. Which brings me back to another point in this chapter. I can’t stop thinking about Gil’s wife saying “They are hounding me. They know where my family lives”, followed by Gil’s thoughts “I should have reported this while I still could” (sounds like a plan) followed by Poppy checking hospitals for her granny. Well… color me intrigued and put a tinfoil cap on, cause I have a wild new theory. But let’s not go there. Let’s wait for Tora breaking down the door (and poor unsuspecting Jacob) and let’s wait for him to find out that a “normal” life, the one he thought Poppy lives, is not bereft of dangers, be those physical or mental. And that maybe, just maybe, they could help each other in overcoming them.

If we remember back on Ep 36, Tora was reading texts from Vincent, the one person that manipulated his very existence and has the nerve to call him “son” after blatantly calling him a fucking idiot and tells him straight up HOW HE CAN NEVER BE HIS SON CAUSE OF HIS PURE BLOODLINE..yet tora’s rage was halted by poppy, ie the lil hair tye 🍓on his wrist. Its like, shes there with him, there by his side calming him down. But we see poppy, ALONE by her office building reading the texts of Julri, the one bastard that betrayed her love and trust and calling her BABE and that he loves her. These are straight up LIES being fed to them by their abusers to try to reel them back in, so consistent of abusers to play nice and say the right things just to get what they want. Poppy straight up punched the wall 🤜🏻 - why??? Her rage was uncontrollable. I also want to add- tora wasn’t there. She may have felt alone, we do know she was hoping to see him walk through the office and he wasn’t there. So that loneliness may have settled in and thats never a good feeling especially when you arent feeling safe. Its so interesting to see how they handle rage. Poppy - the “innocent naive cinnamon role” is seen as more destructive at this moment vs tora - the “intimidating and violent (sexy) muscle of the mob” is basically tranquilized by the thought of his poppychan. So apparently poppy is getting a call from morningstar hospital and it seems legit...i was thinking the photos of granny could easily be photoshopped but idk. I still get a terrible feeling… I really dont trust any of this situation. I definitely wouldnt want poppy going alone. And with Erdene looking like she knows something, doesnt make the situation any better. Erdene - im screaming for you to go with her but that wouldnt make things interesting now would it... That yellow panel where erdene is “smiling” does not put me at ease at all...it’s the same panel as gil’s fake smile. So i feel like Erdene DOES know something, or at least is wary of some sort of situation. So we know that erdene got laid the night before by pinky and tora’s boys are a bit of blabber mouths. I have a feeling maybe he was saying too much when he was with erdene and gave her a bad feeling but didnt want to say anything because it may scare her friend. So in the next panel we see popping leaving the office, in the same position gil was leaving...heading out into the shadows (danger) and leaving the safety of the artificial lighting of an office which i believe is a total front. WHERE’S POPPY??? A N D D A D D Y ‘ S H O M E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️LMAOOOOOOOO his trampling, fearsome worried energy caused poor jacob to fall!!!! This was an anxious build up to the episode, with that tricksy text from Julri. After all the creeping from Gil around her, getting that text was another heavy dose of, ‘what the fuck is happening!’ And it didn’t end there. I was surprised to go back to Gil and his creepy five chin hairs, and the flashback with his wife. Who I feel quite sorry for! Sounds like she’s going through some hell herself, thanks to her fraudster hubby. Yes fish man, what do you mean report it?! And why do we get a horrible feeling it’s got something to do with Poppy? Ugh, I’m so nervous for her! Where’s he gone in that taxi? And when are those chin hairs going to pop back up again? *shudders* Back to Poppy and that tricksy text; I’m glad we went straight into this episode resolving the cliffhanger of the previous one. And I’m equally relieved Poppy called around before she got in touch with Julri. It’s the logical thing to do, and probably something he wouldn’t have expected her to do. But to come out of nowhere with that message and using a different number? The boy has got her on edge for good reason. Did it break anyone else’s heart a little the way she was shaking when she made the call to him? Makes my heart race just reading it. It took some serious strength and courage on Poppy’s part to do that, in my opinion! Aaaaaaaand here comes the rage towards him for once again being the manipulative arsehole he is and tricking her into calling. Gah!! The mans audacity knows no bounds, apparently! Just the thought of someone holding my call hostage on something that is a very serious matter just to manipulate makes my blood boil. Where’s the wood chipper!!? Oh wait, no need, because Poppy just burned him alive all on her own. YES MA’AM!!! You go Poppy, you absolute queen!!! My legs are twitching with the need to jump up and down and scream with excitement at that calm as anything burn notice she gave him. Yassss. Hell of a left hook she gave that wall too. I see those parallels with Tora, punching out the rage. And I can definitely relate to being so angry and overwhelmed you just want to lash out. Boy has it coming too, so many years of suppressed feelings for her. Poor Granny! We already know Julri is a piece of shit, but to skip over her granny completely just to plead his pitiful case is really adding gasoline to that fire of rage towards him. I don’t remember the last time I disliked a character so much. Heh! Hmm, why did Erdene jump straight to presuming Tora was the one that upset Poppy? Either way, she was channeling my rage for Julri with that outburst. Say it girl! But why couldn’t they disclose more about granny over the phone? Why was Dene looking squirrelly about Poppy going back to Moonbright when she’s normal so cool and collected? Questions... Side note, Poppy’s expressions in the little sequence are adorable!! I’m swooning at these girls. So rounding off this highly charged episode with Dene making me more and more nervous at something going on around them all. Can they trust Jacob? I sure hope so, he’s growing on me bit by bit. Tora barrelling into the office looking for Poppy and looking all kinds of dangerous (thank youuuu, Lily!)...with Erdene looking like she’s ready to pass out too...what’s coming?! Also, we see you on the floor there Jacob. You ok, bro? Hahaha. Left on another mini cliffhanger there and personally I love them! Gives me something to look forward to and they’re always worth in my opinion. The highlight is absolutely Poppy burning Julri. She’s heading back to Moonbright and a huge chance of seeing him. Hope she’s prepared more of those one liners to incinerate him, boy does he deserve it!
