I read this episode in a parked car outside my house while having to pee ssoooooo bad because I couldn’t walk into my house not knowing what happened in MPL. What a satisfying episode. Part of me was glad Tora slapped TF outta that twat but another part of me wanted him to make him pee his pants without even getting close to him. Julri is lucky Tora gave that pillar the rest of what he wanted to give to him. He’s pretty good at keeping his violent side out of Poppy’s view so you KNOW he was piiiisssseeed. I’m a little disappointed with Poppy not sticking up for herself enough, she was just taking more abuse from Julri. I was hoping with her move to Narin, being successful at her job by closing deals, her new friends and everything she’s been through that we’ve seen, that she would’ve gained the confidence to really tell off Julri. Like, how dare he accuse her of not being a loyal girlfriend because she is sorta seeing someone after three months from their break up which by the way, he cheated on her, they were broken up, she can see who she wants, there is no timetable for dating another person. I loved that Tora did give her time to try to sort it out herself, I just wish Tora didn’t need to step in and Poppy could’ve defended herself. We’ve seen her fiery side, so we know it’s there. I just hate that Julri does that to her…. Again and again. Fuck that guy. And I hope we get to see Poppy really lay into him one day in the future and he apologizes because he realizes he’s wrong, not because he’s afraid of Tora.

I found this whole chapter to be so satisfying! First, Tora gave Poppy space to handle Julri by herself and called Poppy by her actual name while addressing her. I think it was the fist time in the comic, but correct me if I’m wrong. Poppy said he was her uncle. I laughed so dang hard at that and Tora’s accompanying sigh. Then, the SLAP! So satisfying. I like that Tora slapped Julri and don’t punch him. Like Julri wasn’t worth a real punch. I was a little worried with Poppy about Tora for a second, but he kept it together and she helped keep him grounded by holding his hand. Gyu better be ok!

Okay, now that I've read and re-read that episode 4 times (oops, 5 now)... First off, I'm pretty sure I said, "uh oh," when Tora realized he was out of cigarettes. Those puppies keep him calm when he's pissed off or upset, and I just knew Julri was going to piss him ALL the way off.  Also, that eyeroll. 😅 Poor Uncle Tora.  And that ending sent my brain circling back to a theory I had sometime ago within the last few weeks.  But more on that later! I want to say how much I love the inverse symmetry going on in the story.  My little pattern-loving brain can't stop comparing tonight in Moonbright with last night on Ares Street. Yesterday, Poppy ran to Tora. She went to find him on his home turf, and she found him exactly where she thought he'd be. Today, Tora ran to Poppy. He went to find her on her home turf, but it took him hours of searching to track her down. Last night, there was trouble with thugs, and Poppy's little civilian self stepped up to defend Tora when they started disrespecting him. She thought she should have let him handle it from the beginning, but he doubted his self-control, despite the fact that he diffused the situation without getting violent. Tonight, there was civilian flavored trouble, and Tora the boss level thug bitch slapped Julri into next Tuesday when he started disrespecting Poppy. He tried to let her handle the situation herself, but this time actually snapped and lost control, becoming violent in front of her for the first time. And last night, Poppy got spooked and ran away, leaving Tora completely frustrated. If the pattern holds the way I'm hoping... there won't be any running away tonight. And maybe, just maybe, the tiger and the hamster will finally get some quality alone time and discuss some things that desperately need to be discussed. But, I sort of love how on Ares Street--loud, chaotic, and named for the freaking god of war--nobody there got hurt, when fighting and violence is the norm. Whereas in Moonbright--quiet, sleepy little country village--the village idiot got what he very much deserved, and there was blood and destruction. Further, I love how Tora taking Poppy's hand calmed and steadied her after she'd given in to "flight," and then how she instinctively took his hand this time, calming him in turn after he'd given in to "fight." Lastly... Gyu has me worried. Not as anxious as I'd been in previous weeks, because I'll be swimming in this serotonin for a while, but my brain is returning to a theory I had before... wondering if maybe Gil has his slimy little fish hands (okay bad analogy) in this. Did Gil get to Granny? Did he threaten or blackmail her somehow into making Poppy move back? And is he somehow responsible for that swapped address, or did somebody do that as a protection measure? Thank you for this episode, Lily! I think the length was perfect, and it helped us all breathe a bit more easily. ... P.S.  WAIT.  TORA WASN'T SAYING "YA"! Has our Tiger Boy been practicing so his speech matches his dress??

Popping back on once more after my initial slow clap comment to provide slightly extensive late night thoughts from a very exhausted law student. Excuse the ramble it may get strange up in here. I find it's a wonderful feeling to be able to connect with an artist through the characters and world he or she creates. Poppy may not be "real" in the sense she is a physical person in front of me but her story, experiences, and the breath of life Lily breathes into her each and every week astound me. Lily manifests her into a character that I am genuinely proud to see grow. I see Poppy's growth into a more confident woman; more confident in knowing her self-worth, in her actions, in her words, and in how she presents herself to others. She. Handled. Julri. With. GRACE. 🥲 There was no cussing or physical violence (Tora took care of that). Just calling him out on his utter bullshit ways and his abhorrent treatment of her while walking off with Ms. Scooter. Being in a very similar relationship with the gaslighting, the lying, and the cheating, I see so many similarities between Poppy and I (and her story resonates with so, so many others). I find it wonderful Lily shares her talent and skill with all of us in creating something that showcases Poppy's (and Tora's) maturity in overcoming abusive relationships, overcoming trust issues, and highlighting what it means to have respect not only for herself in recognizing she has some shit to sort through first before committing to another person, but also having the respect for that other person (Tora) to work hard to better herself and find out what qualities she wants in a partner, rather than letting the very obvious physical attraction override all sense and logic. There's no denying Poppy and Tora are good for one another. They've helped each other take fairly large strides in self-growth in a matter of just a few weeks. I'm excited to continue to watch their relationship blossom. I also think this chapter and the last were major stepping stones in bringing Poppy and Tora closer together. Poppy got some damn good closure, and on her terms, with Julri while Tora heard (assumingely) a good portion of the conversation. Tora knows it's over between Poppy and Julri, he knows first hand Julri's behavior is one of the many reasons why Poppy acts or reacts the way she does in certain situations (recall when they were in Tora's kitchen and he says 'who did this to you?'), and Tora made it quite clear to Poppy he's on her side and won't stand for others disrespecting her. So much more to say but I'll leave it at that 🌸

First, I snorted so hard when she said Tora was her uncle. But can we talk about how Poppy stood up for herself but Tora also got the chance to take care of her???!?! She stood her ground!! I adore the small details that mean they are listening to each other and growing as a couple. Like the way he starts off calling the scooter an “it” and then changes it to a “she” when Poppy expresses a special love for the scooter by giving it a gender. Picking up on something that may not mean a lot to someone else but it means something to Poppy. I’ll let you lovely people break down the bigger scenes and what they mean, but I couldn’t let this one go unnoticed☺️

First, what an amazing episode! I could write a whole book about my reaction to this episode but I won’t, I’ll just throw out one of my theories: I don’t think Poppy was scared when Tora destroyed that lamp. I personally think she got turned on. Here’s why I think this, earlier in the day she punched a wall. On Regina’s Peak she raged loud enough to echo in the landscape. She bit Tora while she was chewing him out for his behavior when she went and checked on him. She also had a very public yelling match with him at Godrun’s (blanking on name). Aaand she busted Tora’s nose when he asked her to sleep with him. Furthermore, I’ve noticed she pulls back when things heat up for her. (Kissing at the club, covering his body when she saw him in a tank and sweats, pushing him down the stairs after she kissed him) so to me it made sense that she pulled her hand away when he touch the scooter in Moonbright. She’s got a little sadistic side to her, something her cheery disposition tends to cover up. Although Julri used it in a manipulative way, I think there was some truth to what he said about her keeping people at a distance and always appearing happy when there’s more under the surface. Could be abandonment issues, but I love how Tora and Poppy accept and bring out the raw, authentic versions of themselves. This episode’s layers have layers. Great job!

Amazing chapter, beautiful story and art from Lily as always. So glad I finally bit the bullet and joined this Patreon! Still, I have a likely unpopular opinion. That slap was definitely satisfying af, but I'm a little concerned reading through these comments at how many people seem totally okay with Tora's violent outburst. While I applaud him for showing the restraint he did in front of Poppy, let's not pretend him destroying property is a healthy way to vent his frustration. I think it was important for Poppy to see a bit of what he's really capable of, but maybe let's not just give Tora a pass on this. There's a lot to unpack here and he and Poppy can't avoid it forever. Though I will give these kids their moment since I too am so glad they're reunited and can't wait to see what comes next 😉

Short episode where, Ma’am??? The confrontation between Julri, Poppy, and Tora was a long time coming and it DELIVERED. 👏👏👏 A few other comments have brilliantly picked up on this already, but I continue to be amazed at the storytelling around Poppy and Tora’s relationship, and their parallel gestures and thoughts. As their relationship further develops, both characters are able to intrinsically sense when the other needs more support at any given moment (Tora hugging Poppy back in his kitchen, Poppy holding Tora’s hand in the alley the previous night, Tora stepping in between Tora and Julri, Poppy holding and squeezing Tora’s hand tonight). It’s an equitable, and often unspoken, exchange between the two of them, and their understanding of the other grows stronger every episode as they become more deeply entrenched in each other’s lives. They’ve already demonstrated more commitment to each other than Julri did in his entire relationship with Poppy. Such an excellent portrayal of what deeply felt intimacy looks and feels like. Job well done! 🙌🙌🙌 Also Gyu….PLEASE BE OK!! My worry has now expanded to every single character. 😫

Our little hamster 🐹 is really holding it together - too well if you ask me. I think she’s been holding in a lot of stuff, trying to be strong. We’re starting to see that her bubbly personality may be a front sometimes, she agreed with Julri when he said she uses her cheerfulness to keep people out. In her shoes, I’d be ugly/angry-crying into Tora’s chest as soon as Julri was out of sight after all the mean shit he said to her. But not Poppy, she just goes on cracking jokes. Everything she’s been through in the last few days, she’s long overdue for another good cathartic cry on Tora’s lap…. which would be a great segue into some more also cathartic kithing. 😈 She was obviously surprised by Tora’s violence against Julri and the poor sculpture, but I’m not sure if in a REALLY BAD or not-so-bad way. Her lip trembled when he broke the sculpture, but that seemed to change to a smile (I think) when he proceeded to say “your uncle? Seriously?”. So I’m not sure if she was bracing herself expecting him to be mad at her, a-la Julri, or if she was worried about Tora’s rage level in a sad way. (Poor Poppy, Julri obviously still gets to her after so many years of psycho-drama ❤️‍🩹, but Tora is helping her realize her worth and in becoming more independent and confident). Either way, that seemed to dissipate when Tora conveyed his playful displeasure at Poppy trying to hide who he is to her. I really hope they go back to her place and talk it out. She needs to process what just happened and any other pent up emotions. I mean, that first “Tor-“ seemed like a “did he just defend me against this douche bag?” wet-panties moment (or at least mine would have been! 😏💦💦💦). But then we get a close-up of Tora’s face as she sees his eyes are open wide, like lost in rage - that’s when she yells “Tora!” with a little more panic and in the next panel his eyes soften. Clearly, she’s having a good influence on him as well, but I think she saw a different side of him today. They need to not brush this off like nothing happened, and Tora needs to tell her she’s in danger. P.S. Gotta say, one of my favorite parts of this episode is when Poppy takes his hand, I assume to calm him (and by the way she looks at Julri, maybe also because she feelsprotected and vindicated?), but then we see that Tora squeezes her hand back like reassuring her. 💘~sigh~💘

Just popping in quickly to comment on something for this episode! Some readers getting mad that poppy called Tora uncle lol, maybe I didn't make it clear enough. So to clarify - Tora wasn't mad that she called him uncle. Probably just mildly annoyed, at most. He was only trying to diffuse the tension after losing his cool, and used that as a segue to let Poppy know he'd gotten his rage out of the way and was back to being his usual snarky self again. And the fandom goes willllllld! *roar!* Well, it has been about 17 hours since I last read this episode and I STILL get a heart pounding when it starts off with Poppy asking the hard questions. Standing in her home town, confronting her abuser late at night, with no phone, no money and probably pretty fucking exhausted from the emotional upheaval she’s been through just in that day. And despite all that she does it, she asks him what she deserves the answers too. Personally, I’m hella proud of her for that! I felt wiped just reading it, like she was just giving off waves of emotional exhaustion. But I couldn’t help but throw my hands up and cheer her for this. This was a huge step for her, and I hope a milestone for her too. I don’t know what I was expecting for him to say, but when I tell you I quite literally face palmed myself at 2am because his throw back was so fucking disgusting and vile, I had no idea his arseholery could go even higher, but he once again disappointed me greatly. Throughout! And then she turns to him! She actually faces him down and shit if I didn’t cheer again at that! It’s always been pretty clear to me he’s someone who will never allow an argument to end if it’s not finished by him. And it was easy to tell pretty quick Poppy was wasting her time. But I suspect if the ending didn’t happen the way it did he’d have just continued to hound her. And that just makes me feel shit for her. Ahhh, Tora, YES!! Exactly! This IS a score Poppy needed to settle for herself and I like to think we always knew that’s how it was going to go down, that she would be the one to confront him. But seeing him acknowledge that...we love you, tiger! Outta cigarettes huh? Someone’s doing well cutting back. 😏 And my theory was right, Poppy tried to make a clean exit and needle dick looking pissed as hell throws more acid on the moment. Gah, I just cannot with him! Actually HATE his character so much! Which is so rare for me to say. And Poppy...oh Poppy absolutely SLAYED the moment with her retort!! It was so mature, calm, FINAL and the sheer power of her expression, I was absolutely living for that moment! That she turned and said it to him straight, took the power back and owned that moment! It made me so damn happy, totally by passing Julri carrying on being a dick and just embracing that moment for her!! I can’t wait to see that fiery look in her eye again in the future. Queen! Enter the tiger, who like the gent he is waited for the right moment to come in to it. And there goes my heart racing again! Dude does things to me looking that fine in that get up. Oof! I don’t want to imagine what else Julri would have said to try and get a rise out of Poppy, or how it could have escalated if she carried on ignoring him. Maybe she did need Tora to step in at that moment for nothing else than to shine Julri’s spot light on to him and away from her. And the fact they both ignored him? Loved it! Notice he evades her question, which I hope they come back to! And that he changes his pronouns for the scooter to match Poppy. His perception is incredible and I really loved that small detail! Including the way she’s looking up at him, so wide eyed and glowey as she joked with him. It was delicious! Tora’s eye roll though...felt that in my soul as I matched him! Uncle, Poppy? Bless your heart, but that was terrible! Hahaha! Fucking hell, the anxiety I get reading Julri rip into Poppy is so unsettling. They just didn’t stop. Imagine 6 fucking years of this shit! I’ve always been team, let Poppy heal before pushing her on Tora. And seeing this, Julri’s abrasive way with her and I can’t stress that point enough again! It’s been 3 weeks since she split with him, correct? The shock it must’ve been to her to be starting to unravel the binds he put on her just to be jarred back to it so violently with this encounter. And in front of someone you have a connection with no less. But as harsh as it is, I really think it’ll be a big step on her healing journey. So I’m trying hard to stay positive. Soooo hard! Aaaaaaaand Tora just slapped the soul from the piece of shits body. Slapped. Just, smacked him straight across the face leaving some tiger stripes in its place. And I tell you, I gasped so loudly at that! I somehow did not see that coming, but on reflection, Tora the smart cookie he is, absolutely knew that slap was coming. He waited until he started aiming that acidity his way and knocked the shit out of him for it. Christ imagine if that had been a punch!? Julri would’ve been swallowing his teeth. Must’ve been some serious restraint on Tora’s part to leave it with a slap. It’s all the little weasel needed. The way he’s standing over him like he’s ready to sink his foot into his ribs was intimidating as hell! And his eyes....!! And more interestingly Poppy didn’t see too surprised either! She was very calm during that moment, slipping her hand into his which I bloody melted at by the way! Such an intimate and grounding moment. He was so close to losing control, and she pulled him back just barely. Also, taking the jacket off...thank you, ma’am! No need to keep that cover up, one slap and we all know what this mans capable of. Welp! I believe Julri when he says he won’t go near Poppy again. Not because of Tora but because he’s a fucking bully and a coward. I wanted to see Poppy be the one to lay a fist to his face. But she did it her way with words which were powerful and strong. But that would never have been enough. Oh shit, you know Tora’s struggling to contain his rage when the hands go on the hips. And true to form, there goes his hulk smash moment. Serious parallels to Vincent there. But having been raised by him and having no reason for coping mechanisms until now, I presume, I can see why all that pent up rage he didn’t get out on Julri came crashing down on that object. Poppy’s reaction to it has me on the fence though. The way she’s biting her lip and clenching her fists, I can’t figure out what she might be thinking. It must be pretty scary to witness something like that. But I quickly thought to myself, she knows he’s in the mafia now. She knows life for him isn’t easy or normal. That there’s parts of him she’s not going to like. But she didn’t necessarily look scared for herself...I don’t know. And just like that, Tora asks the same question we all have since she said it....Uncle? Seriously? Her expression was so adorable! I think maybe it didn’t smart Tora a little. He’s right, she could have used any other excuse. But it’s more telling that she said, “In what universe would I have a friend or co worker who looks like you?” I read that as Poppy still not seeing herself as good enough for Tora, just like he probably just felt being reduced to lame arse uncle. Haha, sorry big bro! Their banter after was pure giggles! He’s being a little flirty, she’s getting all bashful, he genuinely wants to know how he looks to her, if it’s good enough, and she deflects the compliment with asking to borrow money. These two circling each other is a lot of fun and a lot of frustration. I’m here for both! Take all my coins! Aww, Gyu!! I love that he used the same line, I think about that a lot and loved seeing it again. And that Poppy twigged it so fast! Speaking of, GYU!! Yay, what a lovely surprise to see him at the end of the chapter! Even if it was ominous as shit and now I’m all antsy for next week AGAIN! I don’t want Gyu to get hurt. Even though he clearly held his own in the club. Things are heating up and I cannot zoom in looking for clues anymore, it’s making my eyes cross, LOL! Absolutely phenomenal chapter, apparently I had a LOT to say! Thank you, Lily for giving us a story we love to lose ourselves in! That slap will be ringing in my ears for the rest of the week. But immediately dropping into their banter felt so good. Him calling her out on the Uncle comment and joking that the only reason she's happy to see him is to pay for her gas. To paraphrase my comment on webtoon, I can die now. I’m done. That slap was everything. This episode was more than I could have hoped, better than I ever expected. Bravo yet again, Lilydusk. From Poppy’s telling off Julri and making it excruciatingly clear she has no room in her life for him and his bullshit anymore, to the slap heard ‘round the world, this episode was perfection and so immensely, incredibly satisfying. And the teaser at the end! Again we are at the top of the coaster, staring into the drop. Shit is happening! Is it fate, good luck, or divine provenance that Poppy is in Moonbright and not at home when Gyu feels that something is not right? Or did her grandmother plan something that she knew Poppy could not ignore in order to draw her away from the city? 🧐 And I need to take a closer look at the events before and after The Slap. 👋 I loved that Tora was so protective of Poppy that he wouldn’t even let Julri finish his derogatory statement about her. But I also I can’t get out of my mind Tora’s throwing the light (or statue?) after slapping Julri. That definitely conveyed his level of anger, that he needed to destroy something substantial, something large and heavy, in order to discharge the residual anger. But then the way Poppy just let him have his moment until he was calm, joining in his banter without missing a beat, was just perfect. In her own way, this is Poppy showing she is as accepting of all of Tora as he is of her.

This episode was so satisfying and unnerving at the same time. I think some really important elements were addressed here. First being that Tora obviously respects the hell out of Poppy, but there's also the inevitability that he's basically a human weapon. The doubt and tension in this episode was done brilliantly. Because let's be real, as much chemistry as those two have, she has to square up and see him for what he is, and make her decisions. They haven't actually known each other that long. I think for several moments there, she didn't know if he could or would calm down. Julri might be a shit bag, but kicking teeth in isn't an acceptable solution for people in normal society and neither is destruction of public property. Every other time there's been confrontation, he's been able to brush it off or let others handle it. And this was particularly personal... so on the one hand, she got to see a (big) hint of the violence that she knew was there, but on the other, she also saw the monumental control he had for her alone. The panel of Poppy after he said "uncle, seriously?" was probably one of my favorites in the whole series. It was the exact moment where the tension bubble popped and she realized he'd gotten a handle on his rage. Lily really navigated the use of comedic relief, chemistry and some of the less pretty sides of human nature beautifully and subtly. Also, the set up from the episodes where he was sick make me think (hope) that his being out of cigarettes will be very relevant here soon 😏 guess he'll need something sweet, like bubble gum...

Thank you Lilydusk for making the relationships very relateable. I have experienced a similar type of relationship as Poppy and Julri, and even have my own version of Tora, just not mafia and ripped. Its why I cannot get enough MPL! <3

I loved the episode but I was not I was not a fan of poppy calling Tora her uncle. That was disrespectful. How would she feel if it was the other way around? An apology is in order for our girl because Tora is literally doing everything in his power to show her how much he cares for her and she is not even meeting him half way.
