Seeing Tora let his guard down around Poppy is just the sweetest. He doesn't usually act as goofy or awkward around even Quincy. From my perspective, it shows his vulnerability and how he's become more serious regarding his connection with Poppy. He's getting comfy and willing to express a more relaxed and playful side. This episode compared to how Tora acts in episode 43 really shows how much he's changed. As for Poppy, she's also opening up but in different ways. She's more direct about wanting affection, and also calling Tora out when he needs to be more aware of her feelings. Tora tends to play his cards closer to his chest, and not letting anyone in completely. Poppy, on the other hand, is very open about her feelings and ideas except when she's afraid of disappointing or worrying anyone. She's working on herself by trying not to remain stagnate as she was with Julri. Poppy knows what makes her happy, and while she's been patient and open-minded to everything going on in Tora's life, she's clearly not going to let anyone treat her like a doormat anymore. I enjoy finding the parallels between them, and how both Tora and Poppy are growing independently but simultaneously. Tora blushing and being affectionate one minute and then immediately going on the offensive/defensive when Vincent shows up reflects the contrast between the civilian world versus the criminal underworld. Two young twenty-somethings playing on a swingset one moment, and running away from one of the most feared people in Narin City the next. The bright, rich colors and soft expressions fading to more neutral tones and sharper contrast really set the mood here. The swift change offers another look at how dangerous it is for Poppy to be even near Tora. We as the readers know a lot about Vincent and the Balthuman clan, but Poppy doesn't know nearly as much as us. With all the small, tender moments with Poppy, we forget Tora shot and wounded four rival members from a long distance per Vincent's orders. Two people dragging Tora in different directions, with different outcomes. If he chooses Vincent, he'll lose Poppy and his main motivation to work through his trauma and continue to grow. If he chooses Poppy, he puts someone he cares about in danger, (although watching the way Vincent reacted to Ghoa showing up, it makes you wonder which crime family is more powerful here O_O ). Given what we see in the final panel, I'm curious as to how the rest of the season will turn out. It's the year of the Tiger though, so Gil better watch his back if he knows what's good for him!

The sexual tension was there, and Poppy was asking the right question: if that was dialled downed, then what'd it be like at full force 😅 I think Ghoa is the real boss here, taking how Vincent's men become shy obedient kiddos in her presence. That's calm strength from an unpretentious pretty woman, which makes me wonder if her clan is much more powerful than the Balthuman. It's been common knowledge that the Balthuman is powerful, but what if there's another clan, the real elites well hidden whose existence has been hidden from the public eye. It's interesting if this is true, because from live experiences I have seen the most powerful persons are usually the least seen in the public eye: they enjoy way more privacy than public praise, somehow they even like it when being taken as the lesser important ones. It's concerned about bevariorism and superiority complexe and the relationship dynamics of parties involved are so wholesome to observe.

Holy smokes, I am grinning like a loon right now, these cheeks are gonna hurt for days if I keep thinking back on the absolutely freaking adorable scenes between them. Or rather, Tora being such a cutie patootie. I find it quite reassuring and hilarious that he’s a lightweight. I too am now, but I do not look that cute all flushed and red faced from the booze. I mean, is there any look this man CAN’T pull off? OK I’m stalling, I need to actually - try - and write something halfway intelligent here. I love any and all peeks at his dimples. It means we’re getting a truly happy Tora and I tell you seeing that is like a balm to my soul. I want him to be happy all the time so much, so this whole first half was delightful. That kiss on her cheek just started this off into such a high note for me. He’s so light and fun! I genuinely wonder how often he gets the chance to be like this, or if it's something Poppy is able to get out of him. It must be exhausting being all tough and stoic all the time. I must have reread the sequence between them about pickup artists and whether he got it or not so many times. And each one just got funnier and funnier to me. I was so anxious about this episode, I had no idea what to expect. So I’m going to tuck these laughs away for when shit gets too heavy and I need a reprieve. Also his smoulder could put Flynn Rider to shame. (My eldest is on a big Tangled kick again so I’m watching that suave man daily right now. I definitely got Flynn vibes there - “I wrote that book to lure you into my embrace, sweetheart.” *hic*) Tora you drunken plonker! I’m cackling! I love the look on Poppy’s face when he bursts out laughing! The flush is either from embarrassment, annoyance or she's feeling things from this pick up King. Or a little of all three. Whatever it is she looks as confused as the rest of us until her look morphs into the badass boss lady we know she is and gets done with his shit. “B-but not anymore, ‘cos I lost m-my hand virginity to y - “ Please tell me I’m not the only one who howled at that!! Way to make what is a high fandom favourite moment into such a laugh, Tora! I need to go back and reread that balcony scene to see if it's going to make me giggle or not. OK, so we already know this man has mad skills at stuff I can only begin to imagine. But this tying Poppy’s sleeves without her noticing while being a little drunk and daft, has got to be one of my favourite talents he has! I am living for the sheer amount of progress between these two and just the difference between how they first met and now is making me so giddy. So it stood to reason we’d get back to where we kind of left off on the last chapter. As much as I want to hear about Joe, the fact he has had to drink to tell the story has got my alarm bells blaring at me that I’m not ready to hear this story. My imagination has already run wild, Tora being so afraid of telling it is scaring me. That’s a hell of an admission to tell Poppy, but I’m glad he opened up and told her he was nervous. I know it gets said a lot, but this open communication between them makes me so happy! Poppy literally looks like she's bracing herself as Tora asks her why she went quiet. Those *badump* heart beats surrounding her as he loosely holds her in place got me all jittery. By this point I was starting to recognise my emotions were bouncing all over the place and I knew I was back in the MPL game! “But I wouldn’t object to a little of it right now . . .” MISS POPPY!!! You give that consent and go for what you want and need! Yes QUEEN! That blush on Tora has got to be beyond because of the alcohol, please! That look they have between them has got me on fire! “Why didn’t ya fuckin’ say so? I swear I wasn’t planning to do any of this . . .” Mmm, I’m not sure I believe that last part tiger, you’ve never been able to keep your hands off your hamster. *Grins unashamedly* And we’re not complaining either! “At least, not tonight . . .” HOLY HELL THIS MAN IS ON FIRE TONIGHT!! From this point their banter and light flirting got my emotions back on the giddy giggling train and I was starting to relax. I love that he knows she had her fingers crossed back at the club, and she's ended up straddling him. My eyes were pinned to the screen, taking in every flush of her face, the way he went for a neck kiss, the shivers . . . I mean bloody hell, I too wanted to know what it was like ‘full force’ if that was dialled down, because I was rippling with anticipation! I was like, this is it! We’re gonna have some fun times, sorry Joe your story will come. But then BAM! THUG MODE ACTIVATED! And now I have officially lost my fucking mind! I gasped so loud my toddler looked freaked out. All I kept thinking so my 2 year old wouldn’t repeat it was, ‘Ohshitohshitohshitohshit . . .’ and that running mantra has not stopped for the whole day! Everytime I think about this chapter, which is at least every ten seconds, I have the running background noise of that. It doesn’t get simpler than that when you think about what the fuck has just happened! Of all the scenarios I’ve read about Vincent finding out about Poppy, this, THIS was not a part of the list! So bear with me on this because I am SHOOK! Straight away I want to throat punch this piece of crap with his smug arse smile. I mean MY heart was racing as I read this all unfold. Why were you looking for him, Vincent? You wanted his full attention, so instead of calling and knowing he would come in a heartbeat because it's you, you drove around looking for him instead . . . and found him at the park? I call bullshit! Is this because of the person who broke into Poppy’s apartment, or because the leader of the 9 Daggers was arrested? If it's the latter, then does that mean Tora is going to be called back to Vincent's side? So many questions! It’s chilling how Tora slams that mask into place the second he realises Vincent and his goons are about. And then I thought Quincey was making an appearance! But then I realised he hates driving. Enter the scene Ghoa and I’m ready to fall at her feet! I mean, that is an entrance! Even these idiots are scared of her? HOT DAMN! What kind of power does she hold? Not only does she have knowledge of her husband at what seems a totally random part of the city, but she's got him rattled. Why not just meet him at home? And Scharch . . . while everyone else is moving away to give them some privacy, he’s watching like the sick arse he is. What I am praying for is that his eyes aren’t locked on trying to see Poppy, because I think he scares me more than Vincent. Let's get back to Ghoa . . . so I’m going to presume from the way she played Vincent so damn well, that her clan is either older than his or more powerful. I always presumed it was an arranged marriage after Quincey mentioned he was the heir to two clans. Unless Vincent did a marvellous job of charming her. Either way, I love that Quincey’s gran is the big big boss here. And clearly Ghoa holds far more weight than I first thought when she appeared so long ago. I do see a slight resemblance to Poppy in her eye shape, so who knows, maybe that elusive comment Poppy made back in Moonbright has some kind of connection to Ghoa. But I’m going to hop on the fence beyond that for now because my thoughts have gone elsewhere. Like, what’s her ploy here by helping Poppy escape. Was she saving her because she’s a civilian? Because Tora is there and she’s trying to help HIM. I won’t lie, I’m hopeful she has a lot more respect and grace towards Tora than her husband does. Just for the friendship he’s given Quincey alone. But we need to see more to go down that rabbit hole. Either way, she’s saved their arses and I think that was the moment I started to breathe again. The thought of Tora having to get in the car and leave Poppy hiding up there where let's face it, one of those idiots would have probably popped their head in to see her. The line about her being a hooker was loose, as if any of them are going to buy that. Ugh, I’m just a massive bundle of nerves for them both right now!! “Botox, sweetheart. Drunk Tora is so cute. It’s been almost a week later and I’m still struck by how he said he’d rather jump out of a plane than tell her what he has to say. And I just wanted to give him all the hugs at that moment. I enjoyed so much about this episode, even though Vincent showing up and Sack-o-sh!+ being nosy tried to make my heart fall through my butt cheeks. I’m really anxious to see how all of this unfolds. This episode was like riding lightning lol. I’m a little afraid of what’s next, but there’s no chance I’ll look away 😅

My friend and I were analyzing this chapter and couldn't help but notice that when you compare the picture of Ghoa looking over her shoulder and Poppy peeking out from the playground, they kinda look alike. Not saying mom, but Aunt Ghoa, maybe?
