I do have a theory on whitebeard's wounds. This saga has been dotted with moments of characters willing their bodies to do the impossible in order to save Ace. If his mother had given birth to him after 9 months, he would have been slaughtered by the navy. If Luffy had taken as long as Ivankov expected to recover from the poison, he would have missed Ace's execution. And if Whitebeard bled out on this battlefield before rescuing Ace, there would be nothing to stop the execution. Three people who love Ace, forcing their bodies to do the impossible to protect him. Right now Whitebeard is held together by thoughts and prayers, but he refuses to die before Ace is safe.
