Mr. Capgras at the SELF-iSH Release Show (2016)
This wasn't necessarily the first ever live performance of Mr. Capgras (although it might have been) but it's the oldest WWATT live video I think I have. This is from the album release show for SELF-iSH. August of 2016, at what is now Debonair Music Hall.
You may not recognize the band, as they aren't the band playing on any of my albums, nor are they the band I tour with today. Brett Dubin was exclusively a live drummer, David Higdon only played Saxophone for me for about a year, Jon Maisto was bassist between two runs by Vater Boris. The exception is Mike Bottiglieri, who has played with me live since the first ever Tapeworms show in 2015; also two of the backing vocalists (Bianca Teresi and Hennessey Williams) can be heard on The Real Will Wood. The lineup you might know as the Tapeworms today started to come together a few months after this show, and kept the name despite the project changing names overall in 2020 because after ten years it feels weird to call them anything else.
This audience had heard this song at this point, because the music video for Mr. Capgras has been released a few months prior. I've seen some videos of some of the songs' premieres at this show, where it's a very strange sensation to see an audience that's completely unfamiliar with songs that are now my "older work," and not dancing or singing along.
