One Shot Wednesdays -Marta and Gideon: engaged! (Patreon)
Content
Soooo friend and Patron Lauren had requested quite some time ago a prompt that never really took root for me until recently. I have used it for the one-shot below, but to avoid spoilers I'm going to post what the prompt was at the end!
Enjoy!

It was such a thrill to be engaged at long last.
Marta and Gideon had waited years for this moment—thinking it might never come.
She’d been diagnosed with cancer some years back just before she’d turned twenty three. It had been a long and hard battle and there were many times that both of them thought it was the end. But somehow by some miracle she’d pull through every time and get a little better.
Then after over seven years of fighting, things were finally over. She was in remission for the longest she ever had been and the doctors were very hopeful that her cancer would not return.
Gideon had waited (sometimes impatiently) to finally propose to her. He wanted their commitment to be special; not based in haste because they thought they had little time left together.
At long last he took her to a park in town where many people frequently picnicked and played outdoor games. They’d had a little sit down with some champagne, a serious but lovely talk, shed a few tears and kisses before he presented her with a ring. Marta of course said a resounding ‘yes!’
The two walked hand-in-hand out of the park back to the car. Marta paused for a moment, catching another glimpse of her ring and grinning ear to ear. He paused too and turned to her to receive her kiss: deep and slow; full of love.
Next thing she knew she heard a car horn and then black—
The young bride-to-be woke in hospital almost a week later.
“M-my legs!” she cried when it occurred to her that there were just bandages where her knees should be. She groggily through the painkillers tried to move her hands to touch but found she couldn’t.
She found she couldn’t see Gideon again either. He hadn’t made it.
The car that had jumped the curb had slammed into them both at such a speed that it practically crushed their bodies on impact.
By some miracle, she’d survived losing her legs and the use of her remaining limbs; paralyzed.
Gideon had lost his life, and his future; their future.
Was it better to have been ‘lucky’ again? Marta never found she could say ‘yes’ –but what could she do about it?
OK GUYS WHAT DID YOU THINK?
Lauren's thing said: Challenge: Brutally kill a character, like as the reader I wanna be like wow that author is a bitch.
Well, how'd I do?
