Emily frustrates the heck out of me guys. Truly. This is the kind of thing that makes lorelai want to continue being no contact with you… how do you still not comprehend that!? Insane behavior. Also I was not expecting the ‘I love you’ in this ep. I kind of forgot that they hadn’t already said it lmao, but I do love that she let him know not to feel pressure to say it if he didn’t want to. Also the whole Birkin thing was so funny 😂

“Well, well, well… a Birkin bag! A Birkin bag! A Birkin bag for Rory!” HAHAHA THE BIRKIN BAG BIT IS SO FUNNY TO ME IN THIS EPISODE. EMILY WAS SO INSANE FOR SNOOPING AROUND LIKE THAT THOUGH LIKE WHAT WAS SHE THINKING HELP I’M ACTUALLY CRYING 😭😭😭 You know, I didn’t even know what a Birkin bag was or represented until I watched this episode all those years ago, so I completely get Rory’s reaction here lol. She didn’t grow up in a rich, fancy world the way Lorelai did, so it makes sense she wasn’t exposed to designer brands. What I really love, though, is how grateful she was for Logan’s gift. She didn’t care about the brand or the status of the bag—she appreciated the thought behind it. That says a lot about her character, and I’ll always defend her for it, unlike some people in the fandom who actually give her shit for it, believe it or not. Anyway, even though she’s surrounded by more wealth now, she’s still humble, and I find that very refreshing. It also shows that, even in this new world, she hasn’t forgotten where she came from. Sure, you could argue her reaction shows she’s unaware of the wealthy world she’s entering, and maybe she could’ve appreciated the significance of the bag more knowing Logan’s background. But I also think it’s a subtle reminder that she’s still Lorelai’s daughter, even with the rift in mind. Lorelai chose to leave that lifestyle behind and made sure Rory wasn’t raised around luxury, so Rory’s reaction makes perfect sense to me personally. Honestly, I would’ve reacted the same way if I received one. A bag is just a bag to me. What matters is that someone thought of me enough to pick out a gift, and that’s what makes it so special. I also love that this is the first time Rory properly says “I love you” to one of her boyfriends. She was forced to say it to Dean before during the season 1 finale, but we know she didn’t actually love him, and she said it indirectly to Jess on the phone during her Chilton graduation, but here? It’s both coming from her first and saying it directly to someone’s face.

It’s so nice to see Richard come to his senses. The moment with him returning the dollhouse to Lorelai makes me cry. While their relationship was a bit broken at this point, it’s so obvious how much they still care about each other ☹️

It's actually super weird that Rory didn't know what a Birkin bag is, because she and Lorelai have been very into fashion throughout the whole series, and also pop culture. There were definitely references to them popping up in movies and TV shows. So, while it is cute and funny, I also think it's an odd plot hole. Then again, this show isn't very concerned with continuity, so.

totally hear that! I can kind of see both aspects being believable tbh. I can see her not knowing what it is but also she is so up on at least knowing about current culture that I feel like she would know what it is, even if she didn't have one!

I always thought it was believable, because judging from Rory's clothes and general behavior, she never felt like a fashion icon to me. :) Yes, there are lots of pop culture references, but they are not usually about fashion, especially the luxurious kind.
