Expanse Day! Best day of the Week! And yah, we did see that opening scene with Miller and Octavia earlier, Episode 5 I think

Hans Engelen

Plot thickens ... Did not guess that eh? To be fair you should have watched 9 and 10 together ... It's a 2 parter but ok.

AnastasiyaK

The episode with the return of the opening title sequence!! I’m so glad they brought it back, I was sad it wasn’t there after the first episode when I watched this show for the first time. Excited to watch this with you guys after work!!

Golladan

We only saw the opening in the first episode. After it was just the show's title. But now that it is back and here to stay, I want to talk about it, as it is IMO one of the best opening of any show. The woman is singing in Norwegian, but it is one that sounds "wrong" as it is meant to be a future evolution of the language. And that is what the opening itself shows. The future of Earth and humanity. It starts by showing the overpopulation of Earth, and the melting of the ice in Greenland. Leading to rising sea levels. The flooding and rebuilding of Liberty Island. All leading humanity to colonize the Moon. And then to Mars as we see domes being built on a Mars habitat. We move further away as we expand into the Belt, and the establishment of a station in Ceres. And even past that as we see Jupiter and two of its moons (Ganymede and Io). And we go even further towards Saturn, where we see Holden floating, as well as Saturn's moons Mimas and Enceladus. The lines we see circling the planet before they focus on it is meant to represent the orbit of ships. I encourage looking closely at the opening, as it will change and evolve a couple of times per season (and every episode in season 5) as the series progresses. Maybe you can spot the changes. The first time it gets updated is at the start of season 2.

Golladan

As the woman in the Anubis said when talking about the plan of turning the Scopuli into bait, the whole point of blowing up the Canterbury was to turn Mars and Earth's attention at each other so they could do whatever they were planing on Eros. Dawes actions this season seemed a bit inconsistent. But after this episode we can sort of piece together what he was doing. He originally was interested in Miller's investigation so he could find out what happened to Julie. But after presumably receiving Julie's message and finding out, he instead tried to keep it under wraps. He had Miller kidnapped to see what he knew, and tried to dispose of him after learning Miller knew nothing (or so he thought).

Ahupnatun

Nice pick up on catching Miller wearing the hat from what Julie might have been seeing.

Lyn Hurst

One thing I wanted to mention, even though this bio weapon is something on a scale they hadn't seen before (Naomi mentioned that) and most likely Julie had not either, it doesn't have to be super sophisticated to grow and adapt. The tiniest microorganisms grow and adapt. I think of the flu virus which is constantly adapting which is why we need new vaccines or bacteria which has adapted to be resistant to antibiotics. The thing is every living organism wants to stay alive and fights against future elimination of its kind. Very creepy organism and super virulent.

My goodness that episode went by so quickly! Also love that the full intro is back, that song is so beautiful!

Bill B.

Brilliant explanation! I could recognize Manhattan and the moon and Mars but never knew the first part was Greenland, and had always wondered!

Bill B.

Love your discussions at the end, especially when you’re arguing 😃. One thing I noticed for the first time is that previously, Miller said he had only killed one man. In the last two eps he has killed maybe 4 within the space of an hour or two just because of his obsession/parasocial relationship/ love for Julie.

TM2

I can't say what it is cuz spoilers, but Spartan knocked it out of the park with one of his theories in the outro. Something I definitely didn't catch the first time around.

AnastasiyaK

The reason the full title opening is back is because the fans were asking for it! The show-runners were very responsive to the fans during the run of this whole show! Spartan, I am loving your excitement and enthusiasm for all the Miller and Holden scenes, I felt the same way!! Love those two together so much. It’s all coming together now, you guys are getting more info on this bio-weapon and now you know who started it all and it’s all more crazy shit from here on out!

Paul

A mega dose of radiation, bad way to go... but what the hell are they doing on Eros! 🤔

Paul

Yeah, at this point, Julie's death shut him down, he's emotionally catatonic. Lost. Almost like a part of himself died.

Drake

poor fred being the most honorable person still being called butcher xD

Lindsay Mathieson

You're really determined to drop spoilers in the chat aren't you.

Julien

I noticed the full intro was gone in these reactions but I just honestly thought Amazon had cut it from the original to save time and cater to the short attention span crowd. So that's how it aired originally? I have no memory of this at all, and in my mind the intro was always there for each episode. Crazy. I love intros because they set the tone of the show. They've disappeared completely from movies for a couple of decades now but series are still hanging in there and I am grateful for any series that still features them. I also love that reactors that provide full-time reactions are forced to sit thru them instead of skipping them as they probably normally would! ;)

Lindsay Mathieson

Post video discussion - Holy shit you guys are good. Pulling all the different confusing event time lines together. As to your theories... we shall see.

Golladan

It can be hard to see, but many of the scenes in the opening have a caption on a corner saying what they are. This opening for example has ISS Flyover No 57 when we see Italy. Petermann Glacier, Greenland. Manhattan, NYC. New York City (with a smaller caption I can't read). Mars Traffic No 22. Mars Habitat No 314(?) and 315. Saturn Traffic No 28. As well as the labeling of planets, moons, and ships. Though many of them I can't make out in my screen.

Lindsay Mathieson

I'm sure Mao just has the best interests of the Belters in mind 😁So good of CPM to treat those poor souls for possible radiation poisoning!

Paul

Exactly. He's a philanthropist at heart.

Bill B.

I’ve hopped back and forth on a number of Patreon channels and can unequivocally say that when it comes to outros and speculation, Spartan and Pudgey are the absolute best. A few others come close but they are the best.

Bill B.

Seriously, if S & P are debating on their opinions of Fred Johnson, your comment is as spoilery as it gets. I hope they have a mod that can delete spoilers.

Amber A

Yeah, Dawes was primarily focused on Ceres. Once the Cant was destroyed, and Ceres became unstable, his focus shifted there. He tapped into (or maybe started) Miller's investigation, and kept up with it until he heard from Julie. Passed the buck to Fred (who was closer to Eros, fwiw), to handle the recovery, and shut down Miller's investigation (and tried to dispose of him), since it could draw the wrong attention from Mao/Kwikowski and Earth, who could re-stabilize Ceres in the process of hunting down her OPA connect. Ultimately, it's a politically savvy move from him, if ruthless. Definitely a series of political gambits Chrisjen would have approved of had the context been protecting Earth rather than securing a Belter home.

Golladan

Miller's investigation started because Jules Pierre Mao requested assistance from Star Helix to find and return Julie. As an Earth Corp and subordinate of JPM, Shaddid had no choice but to comply. But as a secret OPA member she had to keep Julie's actions under wraps. So she gave the investigation to the station joke: Miller. He was to discover Julie was no longer on Ceres and that's it. Case closed. Which is why Shaddid took him off the case at that point. But shockingly Miller decided to keep investigating. At which point Dawes became interested in it and offered the exchange of information.

Shawn Anomaly

It sucks that some just can't help themselves. Not sure what they get out of doing it with no regard for the reactor that's going through the experience.

Bill B.

Only two types of people who drop spoilers… a) ignorant of what they’re doing. Annoying but nobody’s perfect. b) literal sociopaths who enjoy ruining other’s experiences. I always assume (a) over (b) because I try to keep an optimistic view of the world.

dolo

I really like the story and universe but I can't with the MC. I don't know if this is the actor or the writting of the character, or both, but every scenes with holden are mid until now. I hope the character will become better.
