Hell of an episode to ring in Christmas this year but it had to land somewhere lol oh this episode is so heart-wrenching and gutting. It's one you just don't forget easily.

Will

Been waiting for this one 😭

Sharpgirl

This is one of those episodes that live rent free in my head for a few days after I've watched it.

Mark Laniel

Tyreese is a good man, but what Carol did was so so so wrong. She had no right to murder Karen and David. If it were Daryl or anyone from her group who first got sick, is she making a "sacrifice"? Nah she isn't. Had I been Tyreese Carol would have had to go. But that's plot armor for some.

HONZA

The fire was the one that Daryl and Beth lit up earlier

This is not just one of the most depressing episodes in TWD, but one of the most depressing episodes in the history of television. Pudgey was completely right when Lizzie was trying to suffocate Judith earlier, the signs were already there but the audience and Carol chose not to believe it and this episode just shows how great the writing is tbh. Great reaction tho guys , definitely one of the best i’ve seen to this episode. P.S., you’re right, if Rick knew what Lizzie was gonna do to his daughter lol, look what Carol did . Imagine what Rick would do, actually I don’t want to imagine 😂.

Natalie-Anne

Look at the flowers lizzie..

This episode is definitely one of the heavier ones. It’s one of the few episodes I will usually skip over when rewatching the series simply because it’s so difficult to watch. That said, the writing is incredible. It does an excellent job of drawing parallels between what Carol had to do with Karen and David and what she ultimately ends up having to do later with Lizzie. It also allows Carol to better understand the dilemma Rick faced—why he couldn’t trust her around his family and why he ultimately chose to exile her—while also leaving it open for discussion for why Lizzie didn’t receive the same fate. The writers somehow managed to show how both situations were different, yet echoed each other in meaningful ways, which is why the outcomes felt both justified and fitting. I’ve really enjoyed all of your reactions to the TWD episodes so far and look forward to them each week. Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas!

I'm not 100% sure that Lizzie was actively trying to kill Judith right then but I do think the idea started invading her head space in that moment. "What if I killed her? would she change? She's just a baby she couldn't hurt anyone or she wouldn't cry anymore" or something like that would sound like Lizzie's thought process.

ShanB

we don't know that...........

JonSnow21

She literally said “I was about to” , she was definitely about to kill Judith if Carol and Tyreese didn’t show up when they did.

Will

Yes we do 😭

Little Mika's loss was heartbreaking. Losing her the way that it happened and having to put down Lizzie, broke Carol. She wanted Tyrese to shoot her. It was written all over her face. Tyrese is a good person and I believe he knew what Carol wanted him to do. He did the right thing because he believes that Carol is also a good person underneath it all. And that she had good intentions at the heart of what she did. It turned out to be the wrong thing to do in the end. There was no stopping the illness at the prison as it turned out. It gets to be more interesting from here on out. But you two will like the writing. I'm really enjoying your reactions. It's heartfelt and genuine. Thumbs up 👍

Do you remember the Cherokee Rose episode in season two, when Sophia was still missing? Daryl found the flower and Pudgey said „He‘s looking at the flowers!!“ There were some comments on Pudgey saying that. Now you know why 😅😄

ShanB

I was talking about the suffocation scene when she was crying in the woods near the walkers. I think that may have been what Pudgey was talking about that’s why I mentioned. Zero speculation to be had about her killing Judith after already killing Meka….???

Tyler Janes

The hardest part of this episode was the deaths, the 2nd hardest part of this episode was Carole realizing that she can’t bring her daughter back in memory no matter how hard she tries!

Ririn

I disagree. Carol isn't fundamentally bad. The situation, everything that was happening at that time, led her to make a very bad decision. Yes, at the time she thought she was doing the right thing, but we also see that she realized much later that this wasn't the case. To say that if it had been Daryl, she wouldn't have done it... you don't know because it didn't happen. It was Karen and David, two people she knew less well, so naturally the decision was easier for her. We can clearly see that she's trying to redeem herself, we see that (I'll come back to this point later). She confessed to Tyreese, she asked for his forgiveness. To say that she deserves to die is an exaggeration. If Rick didn't kill her, if Tyreese forgave her, it's because they know she's not like that. What she did will haunt her forever, and that's also a form of punishment. What Tyreese said was so well said. She's neither Shane nor the Governor who kills without mercy and with truly malicious intent. At least, that's my opinion.

Bill B.

Poor little Mica… and now Carol has lost 3 little girls 😢

Bill B.

It had to be. Every episode post prison has some detail that crosses over with another.

Mika in the second episode, I think, told carol "She's messed up, not weak" talking about lizzie. I believe they were hinting that Lizzie had psychological issues. SO while it is sweet that she sees them as people still, I don't think it was from a innocent childs mind perspective. Mika always knew the walkers were bad, and she knew her sister had a messed up mind. As they show Mika always being the one to calm her down(counting, looking at flowers). Lizzie was never gonna see the walkers as bad, the show proved that with her killing Mika in the end. It's so sad but a good portrayal of someone suffering with a mental illness that could get them killed in this world. Loved the reaction as always <3

JonSnow21

Oh yea , When she’s suffocating Judith , you can tell maybe the idea appeared to her in that scene but she did show signs of insanity even before that.

Kiwi Tennille 🥝

I got to see extra scenes in my version that i hadn't seen before. Mika singing about Terminus and doing a robot dance was cute.

Fun facts and behind-the-scenes details include: Literary Parallels; The episode has strong parallels to John Steinbeck's novella Of Mice and Men. Both Lizzie and the character Lennie have difficulty understanding the world and their actions, kill a living being out of an inability to understand the finality of death, and are ultimately shot in the back of the head by a caretaker figure who distracts them by telling them to look at something beautiful (flowers for Lizzie, and a farm for Lennie). Continuity with "Still" episode; The smoke that Carol and Tyreese see from a distance was the fire that Daryl and Beth started in the previous stand-alone episode, "Still". *Rick's Longest Absence*; This episode marked Rick Grimes' longest continuous absence from the show up to that point, as it was the third consecutive episode in which he did not appear. This was done to emphasize how completely separated the main group had become after the prison fell. *Sophias Puzzle*; The puzzle that Carol and the girls are working on at the house was, according to actor Melissa McBride on Talking Dead, is a picture of Sophia in her rainbow T-shirt, a subtle and emotional Easter egg. Actors' Real-Life Song; After the episode aired, Brighton Sharbino (Lizzie) and Kyla Kenedy (Mika) wrote and recorded a song together called "Begin Again," which was inspired by the events of the episode.

James Waters

Lizzie is the example of someone with pre-existing genuine mental issues in the apocalypse. She pissed me off when I first watched this episode as a teen because I didn't understand the full extent of her inability to comprehend what was going on. Now I find myself feeling bittersweet for her because it's not really her fault at all, but on the other side she's no longer burdened and strained by the world she lived in. I dunno if that makes me sound like an absolute maniac but screw it, it's how I feel.

Sv443

Quite sad you're not seeing all the scenes, they add quite a bit to the character's personalities imo. Maybe you should consider switching to a different streaming platform.

Gypsysoul

100%. It's nothing massive at this point but I hope it doesn't get worse or skip something important in the future 😬

AlrightThere

Another thing I didn't notice before was Lizzie saying she was upset she accidently shot one of the invaders at the prison in the head. Didn't think much of it before but she was only sad about that specific one because it meant they didn't come back as a walker.

TithenielUtiradiel

Can I ask what scenes? I haven't seen this in forever and apparently I have tbe same copy as them, but I can't remember more scenes.

TithenielUtiradiel

Besides they are not that far away of each other considering that they are all on foot.

Tom

Goddamn it, this is the wrong version with a lot of missing scenes. It wasn't until I was halfway through that I realized we were out of sync and watching completely different scenes.

Angry Gorilla

While I believe her confession was honest and contrite because of her grief, I do think there is room for some calculated thought behind it as well. By confessing to him in their current situation, she is effectively making Tyreese chose between having to take care of Judith on his own and having to live with his partner's murderer. Regardless of what Carol's intentions were, the choices she made were morally dubious at best, and straight up deceptive and appaling at worst. If she truly believed what she did was right, she would've confessed immediately after doing it and accepted her group's judgment. Or, better yet, actually consult with the group first before making such drastic decisions, even if you know the group will disagree. Otherwise, her behaviour is in the same ballpark as Shane's, just not as malicious. All that said, I do agree in that I don't think Carol deserved to die for her actions. I think the decision Rick originally made to banish her quietly was the most reasonable one after what she did.
