I know you guys have said you're only doing the first two seasons, but I think you should continue if you're still enjoying it. I think the hate for seasons 3&4 is overblown, and there are some great episodes in them.

Nathan Jasper

agreed but it really boils down to popular vote and sadly hate survives lol

Artanis

I am glad you enjoyed it. I will explain some things to you in replies:

Artanis

The after credits scene is definitely one of the more talked about of the show. It DOES get more thoroughly explained. It is explored later yes. This is all intended knowledge at this point: The Man in Black is waking up in the ruins of the park far in the future, and he’s being questioned and tested by a host version of his daughter Emily. He did kill his daughter, he cut his arm to see if he was a host due to his paranoid delusions, an often replicated scene in scifi that deals with identity and machines. The point of the scene is that this isn’t “present-day William", we were just shown where he is, on the beach getting medical. This is a host copy of William being run through a “fidelity” test like Jim Delos to see if they can recreate him accurately and consistently. So William was not always a host, in Seasons 1–2 he’s a real human. The after-credits implies that at some later time (long after Season 2’s main story), someone built a host/copy of William and is testing him in a loop; and it does not mean that human William isn't around either. As we have seen humans and their copies together. We don't know who is behind the Emily host or what it's like outside of the clearly destroyed and abandoned future park they are in.

Artanis

On watching season 3, In all honesty, Delores interacting in the real human world and seeing what she does is one of the most enjoyable parts of the series for me personally, and as you see she brought a number of other host mind spheres with her. IF, IF you do plan to watch season 3 in your private time, hope you consider recording doing that. I do not care when you watch them or the frequency that you upload them. You could still upload them, make some profit from your time, and most importantly, it won't interfere with your current schedule or replacing this slot with a new show like some would prefer. Everyone wins. I personally don't care about season 4, for reaction, that is. But I'd love to see your reactions and discussions of season 3. There's many things about it I think you two would enjoy, story and cast wise. No pressure, but I am serious about this idea. While a lot of things come full circle in 2 seasons, naturally this show does continue for two more seasons so it won't go full circle on everything. Each season explores certain themes about identity, humanity, androids, the soul, consciousness, morality. The big question of can they Co-exist? I have enjoyed this ride with you two. Westworld reactions are nto common. I am glad you two could appreciate it for what it is, and I am glad we had 2 seasons of this, whether you react to season 3 in your own time and upload it at your leisure, or don't. Belated happy new year!

Artanis

Yes, it's ultimately up to the creators and all the customers. Everyone here deserves to have their voice heard. I would love it, IF they were to just watch season 3 in their own time anyway, if they'd be up to record it, and upload the episodes whenever they feel like it, I don't care about frequency. I honedly don't care about season 4 reactions, but I like most of season 3 and their discussions would be so fun. Then it doesn't interfere with the other shows, and they can still replace westworld with another show like some prefer. This way the fans, the creators, and everyone else win. I know this is unlikely. They can do whatever they prefer though, I'm very grateful we were blessed with 2 seasons.

Artanis

About the humans being code part. This is just like every other philosophy in the show. The people professing it are pretty confident in it until some event proves it wrong. The systems philosophy was somewhat similar to Fords, that we have more patterns and influences, biochemistry, emotions, etc. that guide our decision making than we realize. That there is a biological cage. They are pretty certain about it, until it's called into question by some event in the show. Bernard clearly does not agree with that. Delores may change her mind through Bernard, or some other way, based on what Delores says to him at the end. Just because the system, a computer system, believes this, does not mean it's true, or that the show will endorse this viewpoint in the end.

Artanis

About Ford, he did not plan and foresee everything. The show, and Ford himself try to make it seem that way much of the time, yes However, and you will notice on rewatches, there are a number of times he mentions that a number of things didn't go to plan, or he had to change part of it, sometimes he specifies what as well. Also as we have seen, some of Fords actions, some, were in fact the voices of Delores or Bernard, not Ford.

Artanis

You kind of nailed the seperation of the halves of the show when you mentioned the park reveal. The park, and everything related to it, is a big part of the show. In many ways though, it's an exploration and launch pad of seeing if self aware hosts and Humans can coexist and this is what season 3 and 4 focus on. Thank you for the wonderful reactions.

Lyn Hurst

I realize this was an end of season wrap up and not an end of show, but I feel like they said the problem with the hosts was they made them too complicated. I feel like the show was too complicated this season. Who is a host, who is a replica, who is human. Dolores as herself season 1, as herself and Wyatt season 2, and Dolores as a replica of Hayes going into season 3. Bernard was the most confusing. Bernard came from Arnold as a replica. Then his whole identity goes back and forth in this season. Did he create the hosts such as Dolores, or did she create him. I loved the show in the beginning and even the beginning of this season, but maybe I would need a rewatch to be able to follow all the main stories. Ford, Bernard, Dolores, Maeve, William.... and all the other characters that were somewhat important to the story. Maybe too many characters to follow to catch all the switching.

Sheri

Really enjoyed your reactions to this series... thank you! If you react to seasons 3 & 4 I will definitely watch, but obviously do what's best for your channel and your time. They're definitely worth watching, even if it's just on your own. I think the motivation for Dolores recreating Bernard at the end is what she said about choice... they both killed and recreated each other, and both gave each other the choice (free will) about how they will proceed and write their own stories. As for William, I think the post-credit scene takes place in the future with a virtual version of his daughter Emily who is trying to recreate him. I don't think it changes anything we saw previously which was all real William and real Emily. It's definitely one of those shows that's better and more meaningful upon a rewatch, especially with all the scrambled timelines, which is why I've really enjoyed rewatching it with you both. Thank you!

Zanni

I too thought The Man in Black was a host the entire time at first, until Emily appeared. I’m pretty sure the ending implies that someone has been attempting to crack fidelity with a host version of him ever since! So if you really think about it, we’ve essentially been watching two timelines unfold at once: the real William’s life playing out in real time, and a host copy of William being repeatedly run through a fidelity test long after his death😂 Crazy. Really enjoyed your reactions!

Max Martin

The fun part is that the difference in acting between real Hale and Dolores-Hale is SO OBVIOUS on rewatch. If you watch it again, even in this episode alone, you can notice all of Halores mannerisms, the way she speaks, the way she uses her body, is extra rigid compared to real Hale. It was staring at us from the start of the season but difficult to catch. About if William was always a host : We saw that when recreating a human (Arnold, Delos) there's always a baseline to replicate for fidelity, and that baseline really happened one time. So was William a host this whole time? Well yes and no, depends on how you want to see it. It's safe to say the baseline for William is what he did in the park since the first episode of season 1. And then, like Dolores in season 1 with her own journey to consciousness, the post credits implies that he relives this memory on a loop. So it's really up to you if you want to believe you watched the real-William baseline or a host-William reliving his memory. In both cases it's the same story : if you can't tell the difference, does it matter?

Max Martin

I really wish you would react to the rest of seasons. Maybe put it as an option for the next short series poll? Then we'll have a clearer understanding on wether or not there's enough fandom to justify going further.

temsik28

Best outro discussion since the glory days of Dark. I really don't get all the hate for season 3 and 4. I remember binge watching them and having all the same great mental rushes as the first two seasons. The big letdown was when I searched for info on season 5. I really wanted to know so much more about that last environment. If you end up watching them on your own I hope you enjoy! Check in at the end of the seasons and let us know what you think!

Oleg Shevchenko

Yeah, the Stubbs reveal definitely felt like an afterthought

Samanda

I am sad that the haters, who prefer simpler shows, are the ones to decide that you shouldn't watch any further :-( I mean, it's like having Harry Potter fans tell you not to watch Lord of the Rings. But that doesn't mean Lord of the Rings is bad! I hope you still do season 3 and 4. I enjoy these rewatches so much because you both pick up on things that I have missed on my first time and it's been such an enjoyable ride.

Yoshio

I loved your reactions. You did a great job of understanding this on your first viewing, far better then when I first saw it 😂 I think the complexity in the last episode is because Nolan and Joy wrote it from the perspective of androids who don't think the way we do. I think it was quite ambitious writing, and Nolan has never shied away from complexity as you've seen in films he co-wrote with his brother Christopher like Interstellar. Memento is insane storytelling and confuses everyone the first time. If you continue onto S3 I'll be right there watching with you, but I understand if you don't have the support to do it. If you do, you could have the caveat that you'll stop if it's not enjoyable given the mixed feelings for the later seasons. But if you're curious about Delores' and Benard's journey, it's hard to imagine stopping when such a major shift has occurred imo. Some people said you'd hate the Expanse and WW S1 and S2, but you loved them. I think this indicates that, like me, you like complex sci-fi narratives, so even on your own S3 is probably worth checking out. I personally have made an effort to see everything the Nolans have done. I think it's great that you watched the first 2 since you love Fallout and you got to see those same creators' earlier work. And they've said they'd like to make Season 5 of Westworld one day to properly finish the show, so they still care and believe in this franchise.

Artanis

Yeah i do think the pacing would've been a little better if they had one or two more episodes or tightened up some earlier stuff so they could span some do this over two episodes instead of one but they did pretty good overall. I tend to like stuff like this so I had no issue first time I watched it, but, I will say, having watched this season a few more times since, the season doesn't get enough credit. Is it perfect? Certainly not, but there are SO SO SO many hints, giveaways and things tied in throughout the entire season. Every single episode hints at what happened, and the final episode. Things people wonder if they just threw in there, 95% of it has stuff foreshadowing it for multiple episodes, if not the first two episodes. Not all people like the execution sometimes but this show is one of the better ones at having things go full circle after lots of build up in my experience. I think if they had put some of the Bernard stuff more in chronological order in the last episode, the beach talk for example, that might be helped. I think a few of those out of order scenes at the end can be a bit of a trip up for some.

Artanis

Yeah it doesn't help so many people have their faces glued to their phones these days. You can't appreciate shows like these unless you are paying full attention. They are made by people that assume their viewers are intelligent and that they don't need to dumb it down for them, which is too often the norm these days. The show has its flaws like any show but most of the major criticisms I've found are simply a result of not paying attention to what the show is telling you, and the show frankly makes it a happen to tell you everything more than once.

Artanis

I used to think this, but there's hints even in the first half of season 1.

Artanis

In my experience most people that hate on the show stopped at end of season 1 or 2. Most people that are hating on it haven't even seen the other two seasons, you can tell by how they talk about them that they probably just read some article or watched a YouTube review. I have more criticisms of season 4 but I think most criticisms of season 1-3 fall apart on examination.

Samanda

Matt Damon just recently reported that Netflix is now adapting their scripts by repeating plot points 3 to 4 times, to account for the viewers who are on their phones and might have missed something. It's going to make future shows unbearable to watch for those of us who're going to notice this repetition.

Your Westworld reactions are great! Please do seasons 3 and 4. The creators of this show needed 5 seasons to tie all the seasons together. I believe they will get a chance in the future to complete the story. Most likely on another streamer or as a movie. Then you could do the reaction to season 5 as well It will be glorious!!! Please-Please-Please!!!! Thank you!!!

K

Would really really love S3! and for me personally S4 too
