I think what they're trying to get across is Arlan wasn't great by the standards of the lords who treat common people like resources. But he was an honest man who did good for people who needed it. And the lessons he taught Duncan were more valuable than what living in a city serving lords could have done.

I read the book(s) long before HBO had announced picking up the adaptation, and was SO proud of our lil Dunk & Egg that they landed a proper adaptation alongside GOT and HOTD. A part of me is so anxious to see each episode that the week is excruciating, especially for how mellow each episode is so far. And that said, I'm actually really loving the show's confidence to play slow, and take the time to experience the moment-to-moment dynamics of Duncan's interactions. I'm adoring this show so far, and shoutout to Peter Claffey (Dunk) and Dexter Sol Ansell (Egg!) are just lovely in their parts. And they were clearly given wonderful character direction to help bring that out in each scene. Lovely. Thanks for sharing, you two! Glad you're enjoying this story.

Outstanding news! That also means we get some more organic continuity between S2 & S3, and hopefully a sooner date once production is finished. I've got to re-read the trilogy, these first two episodes have been just lovely and capture the tone of the novels and characters so well.
