Lol Spartan’s face in the thumbnail was my reaction when Dex decided to go with lust instead of blood lust 🤣🙌🏼 It’s like when Dexter cut the plastic wrap to free Hannah, he also symbolically cut one of the marionette strings that the Dark Passenger uses to puppet Dexter. He chose life and love over death. Chose something he wanted more than killing. This may be a huge moment for him. It’s almost like Dexter is Pinnochio, and started out the show as a wooden boy who wanted to be real, but couldn’t. No feelings. No sexual desires. He looks down at the donut box in his hands in the pilot after a cop takes the last donut: “Just like me. Empty inside…” But over the seasons, he’s begun to feel. Rita started out as a cover for him, but she eventually became real, and as she became real to him, Dexter became more real as well. It’s like he’s slowly transitioning from a wooden marionette, empty inside and driven by the need to kill, into more of a “real boy”, and the moment he chooses LOVE here, and gives into real feelings, cutting that plastic wrap instead of stabbing Hannah… It was like the Dark Passenger had that knife raised over her, holding Dexter’s arm outstretched by a puppet string, and in the moment the Dark Passenger moves to make Dexter strike, Dexter takes real agency for one of the first times ever. This moment is so peak 🔥
