Bear is most certainly the villain of the film but Barker does such a great job at using the "show don't tell" method of conveying this. Bear takes Nikki's autonomy for completely selfish reasons and avoids taking both accountability and responsibility and shows absolutely no empathy at every turn. Even in the end he buys 2 wish willows and asks his friend to wish that he "never made a wish". The theory there is that Bear was planning to make the wish again but slightly different. He acts out of complete selfishness and doesn't regard Nikki's ability to choose for herself. Fun fact that shows the directors intent. Apple has strict rules for allowing their logo and products in films. One key rule is that the antagonist CANNOT use Apple products. If you notice, Bear is the only one without an Apple phone.

For Spartan's hypothetical wish for Pudgey, "Finished with pain.." may be a very poor choice of words with how the One Wish Willows (Monkey's Paw kinda wish) works 😅 Great reaction to this movie though and if the two of you do end up doing more horror movies; The Mist, The Lighthouse, Alien, and Predator are all awesome horror movies that I think Spartan especially could enjoy. Alien is probably my favorite horror movie of all time.

“It’s less horror and more tragedy” is the mark of most great horror movies unless they’re a trashy Friday the 13th/Saw type film. The absolute best horror films I’ve ever seen (the shining, the witch, green room, etc.) are really just dark dramas with severe consequences for the characters

Also definitely like that you guys prescreen without spoilers to compensate for pudgey’s trauma, especially after the end to no country for old men. Very smart way to do it for films that you know are going to be violent. Great work as always S&P 🔥

I would say Obsession is mostly disturbing and eerie. You should really consider Hereditary. It's very scary but doesn't rely on jump scares, which I feel you would appreciate. Overall highly recommend hereditary, great film and amazing performances.

Lmao you do know that Apple's "No Villian Clause" isn't actually a thing right? Rian Johnson said it during a 2020 interview and people have just ran with it since, despite the fact that he has since said he was joking. Apple has literally never even hinted at it and there's been so many examples since then of villians using Apple products anyways

Good lord... You said there is zero supporting evidence that he bought 2 willows but then turn around and say he went back to the store after his friend messed up the wish. There is zero supporting evidence to your claim that he went back to the store again. Meanwhile throughout the film Bear is constantly trying to justify his wish or amend it to make it work for him. He says he doesn't want to cancel it when he talks to the guy in the phone, instead he wants to alter it. Only after he's told he can't alter it does he request to cancel. And when Nikki reaches out to him while she's asleep, Bear makes her pain filled request about himself saying "what's so bad about being with me". He also makes every excuse for the way Nikki is behaving to both his friends and himself. Like, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that Bear is a terrible person and only cares about what he wants. Movies are really fascinating when you look beyond surface level things man.

Not finished watching the reaction, it's been top notch as usual so far, just wanted to compliment that Spartan recognized Bear's toxic behavior very early, which isn't easy because the director is subtle showing it initially. If we as the audience can notice that the real Nikki comes out repeatedly, even early on, obviously Bear does too and he makes a deliberate choice to not confront that disturbing reality. Just because he is scared as f*** and feels like he's at the mercy of the One Wish Willow mind controlled Nikki, doesn't mean that he should be forgiven when it's abundantly clear that the friend / desired romantic partner he knew is being malevolently manipulated against her will, and he's the only reason why. As a fellow dude who has seen / read so many other guys finishing the film who have still largely or at least partially absolved Bear - it's refreshing that Spartan actually gets it. Pudgey - you picked a good partner!

Personally as a counter I'd not recommend Heredetary because it isn't scary at all. Heredetary leans into making the viewer uncomfortable and disgusted, with a few shocks sprinkled throughout. I found it incredibly dull and it has lead into an era of horror films that simply have 0% scare factor whatsoever.
