Better Than Friday - 251 (Patreon)

Good evening everyone - Storming here in Florida, nice to have it slightly cooler.

Currently editing a review of Camilo José Cela's 'The Hive' (Paid Link).

Thank you so much for your continued support, have a great evening.

1. A Friend's Recommendation: Adventures in Immediate Irreality by Max Blecher (Paid Link)

A surreal memoir-ish novel by a very curious character who passed away tragically young.

2. Hands Down One of the Greatest Songs I've Heard

Lola by Antonio González

3. Onibaba (1964)

Outstanding Japanese Horror(?) film.

What an incredible setting and script. The tall grass shot in black and white has the same ethereal atmospheric importance to the narrative as the sand in 'Woman in the Dunes'.

3. Mishima and Kawabata

Very cool to see these two in conversation.

5. Bathory Doc

Cool doc on the one-man Swedish black metal band. The drummer, Jonas Akerlund, is now a famous music video director, doing stuff like Telephone by Lady Gaga.

An insane coincidence.

Today we went to shoot the intro shot for the forthcoming review of Cela's 'The Hive'

After leaving the cafe we went to Ikea.

On a shelf in one of their demo-rooms, there was a Swedish translation of that exact book.

What the hell are the odds?
