Good Summer evening ya'll, hope you're cooling off somewhere nice.

Shot a review of Neumann's 'The Origins and History of Consciousness' (Paid Link) today, quite the experience.

It's dense, but I highly recommend it. I read it along with the audiobook (Paid Link), which I found helpful.

Thank you so much for your continued support.

Have a great weekend.

1. A Floridian Everglades Crime Novel to Read: Killing Mr. Watson by Peter Mattheissen (Paid Link)

A regional historical fiction recommendation from Michelle, the owner of Wilson's Books here in St. Pete.

Edgar J. Watson was a real outlaw and murderer in the Everglades. One hell of a true story.

Looks like a solid read.

2. My Favorite Summer Band: Morphine

There has never been a cooler band.

Also, check out this outstanding live version of Buena on Conan O'Brien.

They're also on the soundtrack of the film in #4 👇

3. "If You Find This World Bad, You Should See Some of the Others"

An infamous yet fascinating speech about 'lateral dimensions' and totalitarian surveillance from Philip K. Dick in 1977 in Metz, France.

Can't wait to read this guy.

More about the speech here.

4. Wild Things

Had no clue Bill Murray was in this.

Excellent doublecross backstabbing late 90's smutty Floridian neo-noir.

5. John Fahey at the 1969 Memphis Blues Festival

Such cool footage.

The PKD speech is very interesting indeed. I recently watched the YouTube doc called Philip K. Dick: Philosophical Pulp Poet that is a brief synopsis of his life story and ideas. Incredibly interesting guy. The whole VALIS thing is really spooky and that’s what spawned his speech if I remember correctly.

Man, that live performance of Buena just hits different. There’s an early version of the song in the deluxe edition of cure for pain named “groovy beat” that’s pretty neat to hear. I’ve got the exegesis of PKD on my desk and every so often I try (mostly unsuccessfully) to puzzle it out. Mind melting stuff. The man was something else!

Still remember when I heard „Good” for the first time, it was unlike anything else. Had to collect my jaw from the floor, felt like someone created this music specifically for me. We’ve lost Mark way too early.

Morphine is an absolutely amazing band! You Look Like Rain might actually hold my spot for sexiest song of all time.
