Good afternoon friends, how do you do?

Fine (ish) here. My head feels like it's floating off somewhere in the gulf like a square grouper, but nothing serious.

Thank you very much for all your well wishes.

1. A recent gift from a kind fan, S. Cook - Samskara: Rites for a Dead Man by U.R. Ananthamurthy (Paid Link)

A compelling story concerning the rights of death for a sinful Brahmin.

2. The Damned (1969) by Luchino Visconti

Now that is a dark film. "All Kinds of Wrong." as my wife said.

A demented Oedipal drama about the downfall and disintegration of a German steel industrialist's wealthy family and their collaboration with the Nazis.

Features Dirk Bogarde and Charlotte Rampling.

3. The greatest "Found-Footage" Music Video I've seen (Graphic)

Sugarbread by the Viennese artist Anja Plaschg in her project Soap&Skin.

Something about this one hits hard.

4. Toute la memoire du monde

"All the Memory of the World" by Alain Resnais, a short film about the Bibliothèque Nationale.

Fascinating documentation of the enormous library.

Years ago I had the pleasure of descending what felt like several stories below the surface of the earth to view the original printing of Bataille's 'Story of the Eye' at the Bibliothèque François-Mitterand.

5. Linda Linda by The Blue Hearts

A Japanese Punk Rock Classic.

It'll be stuck in your head for years.

Interesting Visconti film! I hadn't heard of it, but from your description I figured it must be based on the Krupp family from my home town Essen. Turns out I was right. I grew up right next to the cemetery where the family is buried. I always loved this grave as a child: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei:Alfred_Krupp_Grabmal.JPG Hope you get well soon!
