Good evening everyone, a very sad week as we've lost one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, David Lynch.

Rest in Peace.

I decided to dedicate today's Better Than Friday entirely to him.

There is no other recent artist I can think of who had so strong an impact on film, television, music, and the aesthetics of contemporary art and culture.I was incredibly fortunate to see him in person once at a gathering for Harry Dean Stanton in Los Angeles. It was an outstanding surprise. One of the most memorable nights of my life.

Here's a professional shoot of that moment of the event with David Lynch.

1. The Biography of David Lynch I need to read: Room to Dream (Paid Link)

Looking forward to this very much.

2. 10 Classic David Lynch Music Moments

Excellent list.

3. David Lynch's Favorite Books

The Metamorphosis is extremely overdue for a review on the channel.

4. "David Lynch in Conversation" from the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art

A nice interview. "I love factories and I love nude women." - David Lynch

5. "David Lynch lashes out at crew for not letting him go dreamy"

Love this. The man needs time to work.

Extra: Snake Eyes by Trouble

I might've posted this before somewhere but couldn't find it.

One of my favorite tracks from a Lynch Production, the third season of Twin Peaks.

Here's a montage of the band playing it in the show.

Alex Zhang Hungtai from Dirty Beaches on the sax - Terrific.

A titan of American arts, Lynch was--and is. I've got a quirky little t-shirt that has a picture of him with Trent Reznor. I was wearing it yesterday when the news got to me. Blue Velvet was revelatory for me, as was The Elephant Man. Eraserhead too. Wild at Heart as well...and Lost Highway... What a treasure. Saw someone mention how both David Lynch and David Bowie died in January, near their birthdays, before a Trump inauguration. What a strange coincidence. I love those two so, so much. I'm at risk of repeating myself if I go any further, so I will finish by saying yet again how sad I have been in the wake of his death. However, I am feeling more and more inspired as the hours pass knowing what great works he gave to us. A Swans song seems apropos here: "Love Will Save You." Cheers

Loved Twin Peaks and love David Lynch. This Better Than Friday is an awesome tribute to a true artist.

I've never met him but somehow he was more important to me than many people I know... I feel like the world has just got darker.

Room to dream is great, btw, highly recommend.

Great choice to dedicate the list to Lynch.

I don't know anything about film, but I know what I like. As someone who has always been drawn to the weird and surreal, discovering David Lynch was a revelation. Twin Peaks is a network show that shouldn't exist, yet does. Twin Peaks: The Return is nothing less than a minor miracle. Having it link up so perfectly with the original run ("I'll see you again in 25 years") and then considering how many of the actors passed away not too long after it was filmed, I still cannot believe that 18-Part Lynch movie was made. And even though Lynch hated it, I love his Dune so much that I recently bought the German ultimate edition just so I could have my own copy of the Spicediver Fan Edit version that is likely the best version we'll ever get. I will never see the Denis Villeneuve version because I already have my Dune adaptation. For all its faults, I think Lynch nailed the weirdness of the book and there's no way a modern Hollywood adaptation can do the same. Ironically, I've been on a Lynch kick lately. In addition to buying that Dune ultimate edition, I have been rewatching Twin Peaks yet again and just rewatched Blue Velvet last month as well. Celebrity deaths rarely affect me but this one is different. I also long to find the same surreal "Lynchian" experience in a novel that I get from his projects. Nothing quite provides that same unsettling, dreamlike feeling. RIP.
