Happy Friday the 13th everyone!

Book in the pipeline:

Faust by Goethe

I'm reading it for the first time, planning on reviewing it in October.

The classic story of the man who sells his soul to the devil for limitless knowledge.

I wasn't aware that Goethe was an extremely accomplished individual.

There's a sign in my neighborhood which inspired me to pick it up (below at the bottom).

Also if you haven't had the pleasure, Murnau's Faust is terrific.

The Latest Earworm:

A Daisy Chain 4 Satan by My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult

Some great early 90's industrial rock from Chicago.

It's Great.

It's Great.

Last Good Podcast I Listened To:

Getting Things Done author David Allen on Tim Ferriss.

I've read part of this book, found it helpful, but had no idea this fellow, David Allen, seemingly straight-laced, was once placed in a mental institution for throwing a brick through somebody's window.

I thought it was a great interview, and it seems like he's developed a terrific system for staying productive and avoiding anxiety related to unfinished tasks.

Last Strange Thing I Found On Youtube:

Apparently, in Japan, you can get a deal on rent if you live in a property where someone has recently died.

They call the properties jiko bukken (事故物件).

Renting Haunted Houses in Japan for the Cheap Rent.

I would totally do this.

A Quote I Loved:

"The more you try to do, the less you actually accomplish."

- Cal Newport Deep Work

I'm in the middle of this audiobook, listening on my morning walks. Not bad.

We'll see how it goes.

Shameless self promotion:

New interview about Books, Jarmusch, and Story of the Eye.

A defunct bar in the neighborhood that reminded me to read Faust.

Marshall L'Amour

So this might not be the sort of audiobook you're inclined toward (in lieu of reading the actual book), but Audible's got a great reading of Wolfe's "The Right Stuff" by Dennis Quaid, of all people. Anyway, it's pretty well done; and, for my part, I had read 'Acid Test' but wasn't particularly likely to read this, but because I'm generally interested in Wolfe's depiction of the subjectmatter, I was happy enough to find a decent audio edition.

Both parts of Faust?
