Good morning everyone, I'm reporting live from the Hellscape that currently is the Pacific Northwest.

The air sucks and everything smells like smoked salmon.

Hope you're faring better.

In other news...

Looks like there may be a collaboration between myself and R.C Waldun

This guy's channel has blown up recently.

Nice fellow, you should check out his stuff. Looking forward to that conversation.

1. A Rare Book I'd like to get my hands on by the author Thomas Pynchon dedicated Gravity's Rainbow to.

No idea how I'm going to find this one for a reasonable price but it looks solid.

I'm very curious. Has anyone read it?

Check this out...

About the Author

Richard Fariña was killed in a motorcycle accident in Carmel, California, on April 30, 1966-two days after the publication of Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up to Me. A posthumous collection of his writings, Long Time Coming and a Long Time Gone, was published in 1969.

Richard Fariña evokes the Sixties as precisely, wittily, and poignantly as F. Scott Fitzgerald captured the Jazz Age. The hero, Gnossus Pappadopoulis, weaves his way through the psychedelic landscape, encountering-among other things-mescaline, women, art, gluttony, falsehood, science, prayer, and, occasionally, truth.

2. Jerry Lee Lewis - AKA 'The Killer'

SHAKE!

Damn straight.

I have to read 'Hellfire', the biography by Nick Tosches.

3. FIT SIEGEL was my Detroit Neighbor

And damn does he have some killer tracks.

Classic Detroit Techno sound, a la No UFO's and Cybotron

When I met him I learned that he was actually playing on a different floor of the club Tresor in Berlin the one time I was there a few years ago. Small world.

4. ORGY

When I was like 13 Orgy's cover of New Order's 'Blue Monday' was the coolest thing in the world.

It doesn't hold up in the slightest.

Or maybe it does in entirety.

It's tough to say.

5. Crispin Glover as the Evil Thomas Edison with John C. Reily as Nikola Tesla in the Drunk History episode narrated by Duncan Trussel.

Classic, Classic, Classic.

In the neighborhood a few days before everything was engulfed in smoke.

Always a risk to click a link that says "Orgy" but looks like it's safe. And Orgy definitely holds up better than a lot of stuff from the late 90s. They actually had a few decent songs that I'll still rock from time to time. Stay safe. For once, Oregon seems to make Florida seem temperate.

Marshall L'Amour

That's my favorite Drunk History--a classic, for sure. Also, I only recently stumbled upon Waldun's video on prolific reading; it's good stuff.

Also, I definitely don't envy your situation out west there. Even "The Road" hadn't envisioned anything quite so ominous or oppressive in its hellscape, though maybe there just wasn't enough vegetation left to burn by that point in its own apocalypse.

I have not read Farina's book. But, I have read Positively 4th Street (a nonfiction bio of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Mimi Baez, and Richard Farina). Really enjoyed that book and you can't help but like Farina after reading it. Quite a character. I have seen some of RC Waldun's videos and enjoyed them. He seems like a thoughtful guy. Another interesting guy on YouTube reviewing books is Scott Bradfield. I was just looking him up on the web and he has quite the resume (LA Review of Books and much more). I haven't watched much but he seems like someone worth mentioning.

I'm looking forward to your collaboration with R.C Waldun. The guy is wise beyond his years.

Carmel's one hell of a spot to die in.
