Good evening everyone, Happy Friday and thanks a bunch for your support.
Have a great weekend. Hope you dig the stuff below.
1. Coming soon - Otessa Moshfegh's 'My Year of Rest and Relaxation'
I've heard great things.
-------------------------
Our narrator should be happy, shouldn't she? She's young, thin, pretty, a recent Columbia graduate, works an easy job at a hip art gallery, lives in an apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan paid for, like the rest of her needs, by her inheritance. But there is a dark and vacuous hole in her heart, and it isn't just the loss of her parents, or the way her Wall Street boyfriend treats her, or her sadomasochistic relationship with her best friend, Reva. It's the year 2000 in a city aglitter with wealth and possibility; what could be so terribly wrong?

2. The Einsturzende Neubauten clip that changed me
Whether or not it was an unintentional moment or angle of the camera, the look of desperate cathartic madness on Blixa Bargeld's face near the beginning, in dark, gritty film (Super 8 or 16?), combined with the various bombardments of percussion and frenetic scrap metal rhythms to follow completely sold me. I was a near instant fan.
I gotta see this. Even if the film is bad the concept is genius.
4. Hilarious interview with Stephen Merrit of The Magnetic Fields
"I'm a pretty dark person."This is fucking gold.
Merritt was speaking about Einsturzende Neubauten being one of the greatest shows he'd seen in 1983 or 1984 at the Danceteria in NYC leading to permanent hearing damage, hence the clip above. Also heard this beautiful track from The Magnetic Fields the other day.
I don't know anything about this composer but this is rad.
The Dragon who lives in my backyard.
