Good evening everyone, hope you had a nice holiday with some delicious food. Have a great weekend.

Currently reading Alex Garland's 'The Beach'. Not bad so far. A break from the heavy hitters, pretty straight travel fiction thriller.

Garland also wrote and directed the film 'Ex Machina', as well as others, and wrote the screenplay for '28 Days Later'.

1. Book I'd like to read - The Door by Magda Szabo

A Hungarian novel about the relationship between two women with very different lives. Supposed to be quite good. I've not yet read anything from Magda Szabo.

2. La Piscine

A stunning example of what is cinematically possible with, essentially, 1 location and 4 actors.

This quiet thriller featuring the two most beautiful actors in history, Alain Delon and Jane Birkin, must be one of the greatest films I've ever seen.

I can't find information on the budget but my god, you could make this today for $10k. That is, if you could find actors as good as these.

Also - The Maserati in the film is sick. Reminds me of the Bora in McCarthy's new book.

3. 33 Books Recommended by Jorge Luis Borges

So interesting. Leon Bloy's 'Disagreeable Tales' makes an appearance.

4. Crumb

Currently watching this documentary. Simultaneously captivative and repulsive.

5. I Remember Clifford

Fortunately, I love this song.

My favorite dog: Gravy the brindle pug.
