Good afternoon everyone, how are you?
Beautiful weather over here, hurricane season is on its way, but man the sunsets are gorgeous this time of year.
Hope you have a good weekend. Here's some stuff to enjoy:
1. Book to read - The Native American Book of the Dead
Quite a description, looks intense.
I'm slowly gathering a collection of Book of the Dead.
2. Rest In Peace Astrud Gilberto
She was outstanding. A true icon.
Her voice still, still, is the epitome of class, refinement, and elegance. Of 'cool'.
The fact that she wasn't appreciated back home in Brazil is...Atrocious.
If you haven't had the chance please listen to the Getz/Gilberto album.
Bossa Nova wouldn't be the same without her.
And she only got $120 for singing on that record.
That's got to be the biggest artistic swindle of the century.
Recently, in separate conversations, my wife and I were discussing crocodiles and virgin births. Then she sent me this.
I did not expect to see the two combined.
4. Talk on Tennessee William's 'Follies of God'
Sent to me by patron Richard, thanks man!
This talk was done at Books & Books in Miami, the best bookstore I've found in the state.
"Remember, all we have is memory." Quite a line.
Stories of Brando, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman...Terrific.
5. Martin Amis & Will Self on Sex in Literature
Great talk.
"Very peculiar activity, Sexual Intercourse. Has two unique characteristics: It is indescribable, and it peoples the world."
Cool looking black chicken wandering around at the Cuban coffee joint in Key West.
