Good evening everyone, finishing up a review of Wise Blood by Flannery O'Connor - Outstanding. One of the Holy Books of Southern Gothic literature.

Meanwhile, enjoy some stuff and have a nice weekend, thanks very much for your continued support!

1. Currently Reading - Trout Fishing in America by Richard Brautigan

"The last of the beats" as they call him. Hysterical.

Very strange book.

Not about Trout Fishing.

2. When I was younger...

I wanted to adapt Milton's Paradise Lost to the screen to the score of Verdi's Requiem. I was lucky enough to have seen it performed in Los Angeles.

Tuba Mirum from Verdi's Requiem. Here's another performance of the full thing.

3. "He's my favorite living European writer."

Bret Easton Ellis on Michel Houellebecq

4. The Stooges live

Historical Moment

"That's peanut butter..."

The Birth of Punk-Rock.

5. Little Flannery O'Connor's Backwards Chicken

"When I was six I had a chicken that walked backward and was in the Pathé News. I was in it too with the chicken. I was just there to assist the chicken but it was the high point in my life. Everything since has been an anticlimax."

Thanks Cliff. I just finished today a short novel from 1947, The Dry Heart, by Natalia Ginzburg. Its about a unhappy marriage that ends in tragedy. *Spoiler Alert* - 'I shot him between the eyes'. And thats on the first page.

I listened to a 1970 interview with Jim Morrison today in which he was asked what he thought of the Stooges, but he said that he hadn’t heard them. Shame, as it would have been cool to know what he thought of those first two albums.

Wise Blood is the crowning achievement of an author who, in my opinion, has never written a weak story in her life.
