Salutations ya'll

Downpour in Florida. A good day for reading.

Hope all is well, thanks so much for your continued support.

1. Looking forward to reading: Dead End by Michel Surya, translated by Kit Schluter

Alternatively, you can get it here from the publisher Black Sun Lit (and you should see the cover).

Michel Surya is the fellow who gave us the magnificent biography of Georges Bataille.

Kit Schluter is a friend, poet, novelist, and an awesome translator who translated, among other things, The Book of Monelle by Marcel Schwob.

2. Vertigo Nightmare

One of the most haunting scenes. Hitchcock's Vertigo may be the greatest film ever made.

Possibly the greatest score as well by Bernard Herrmann, of which Martin Scorsese reminded me in this great clip of him discussing the film here.

3. Hemingway Letter sells for 237k

Scarcely believable that they went through two consecutive plane crashes...

4. What is Poetry? 10 Observations about the art - (Dana Gioia)

Wonderful video. Surprised he doesn't have more subscribers.

He's got some solid writing advice as well.

5. Sandy Bull - Little Maggie

Interesting multi-instrumentalist.

Walked along the beach this morning admiring dolphins, rainbows, and this washed-up decapitated shark head.

Wondering what got to it (another shark?) and what kind it is (Dogfish/Dog-Shark?)

Let me know if you do.

Hey Clifford. Hope you’re doing well! You’re the man. J

"...we are a vulgar, pushing mob whose passions are easily mobilized by demagogues, newspaper men, religious quacks, agitators and such like. To call this a society of free peoples is blasphemous. What have we to offer the world beside the superabundant loot which we recklessly plunder from the earth under the maniacal delusion that this insane activity represents progress and enlightenment?" -- Henry Miller

Hey Cliff, thank you for the update. Unusually hot at the moment over here across the pond in the UK. Was in London for work earlier on in the week with a stressful day with a protest outside my offices and on top of that the Rolling Stones launching their new album next door earlier on that very same day. Bit of a surreal day. Anyhow the reading continues apace, just finished Michael Ondaatje's 1976 debut novel Coming Through Slaughter and now on to Benjamin Labatut's new novel (published yesterday) The Maniac.

Thank you for sharing, Cliff. I especially got much from Dana Gioia. Glad to know of him now. As always, I hope you and your family are taking care!

Cranking the Vertigo score in my truck at work right now. Hermann is one of the best.
