I was at Disneyland last week with my family and I had a run in with a lady who was so fucking fat she couldn’t fit in her seatbelt. She had to use the seat with the extended belt which happened to be the one next to me. It reminded me of the fat watch a couple weeks ago with the 3 piggies at Disneyland

Seems we're still on the origins of heaven topic. Middle ages is not a bad guess per se since there was a good bit of expanding on the concept done around that time, but the assumption that it was improvised wholecloth by guys who couldn't read Latin is definitely off. The origin of heaven and hell traces a bit further back to rabbinical literature from the second temple period (just near the end of BC), later expanded upon by medieval scholars like Maimonides (inb4 Johnny says "My-mana-deez nutz"), a Jewish scholar (12 century AD) who wrote about a spiritual Gan Eden separate from the garden described in Genesis, Sheol (purgatory), and Gehena, all as states of mind achievable in life as well as the afterlife. It's funny for two reasons: we typically don't think of Jews as believing in heaven and hell but they seem to be the source of it, and borrowing ideas from Jews in the middle ages, particularly where salvation was concerned, was something the Inquisition called "Judaizing" and they would typically torture you to death for doing it, and yet here we are.

Maybe they shouldn't do that with the batteries if it's making them suffer so much. As if a battery company specifically said "let's ship them to africa and force them to chop the batteries up in this exact way"? It was probably the cheapest contractor and they didn't investigate further. What are we supposed to do about Africans hacking up batteries with machetes? It's up to them what they do and how they do it, and it's not our job to tell them how to live their lives. What, are you going to tell a ripped guy with a machete "hey that's actually not a good way to do that"?

44:00 This is the perfect example of letting perfect get in the way of good. Machetes and handles of vodka are not the best solutions for homlessness, sure, but it's better than what we're doing which is throwing out every plan because it isn't 100% optimal and doing nothing.
