from what I know, the individual troop earns about $0.50-$1 per box which increases incrementally depending on the # sold. some of the money goes to the local council for camps and events as well. if you want to support another scout, I’m going to try and link here Troop 6000, which is made of homeless or housing insecure kids in NYC. they provide programming where it usually isn’t accessible, including exposing kids to skills and experiences that would normally be price limited. they also have a program to help scouts families with the transition to permanent housing. unlike other troops (from what I know), 100% of their sales from cookies go back to this troop. you can also donate directly! https://www.girlscoutsnyc.org/troop6000

There are also troops like this all over, likely in your local council. These troops are largely supported by council funds, which is where a bulk of the sale goes (all profits stay local.) Troop 6000 is wonderful, but so is supporting your local Girl Scouts!

as a former Girl Scout who used to sell cookies, I very vividly remember when a box was $3.50 in like 2008 so whenever the price goes up I get a bit of sticker shock lol - but I will buy 4 boxes every year regardless

I am always in support of Girl Scout cookies. I was a super shy kid and selling cookies taught me how to break through the shell I'd built, and a lot about organizing orders and managing inventory. It also shows you how good it feels to set a goal entirely for yourself, not for school or your parents and reach it. It gave me so many good memories with my friends and my troop used some of the money to adopt a family over the holidays. We would go to the store together and buy a load of presents for them. I know some troops can be cliquey and some people had bad experiences being bullied by the other girls, but my troop leaders were 2 lesbian women whose daughter was in the troop and everyone in it was gay/trans and looking back all neurodivergent. We were super close friends for years and being in Girl Scouts together gave us all a space that felt safe and loving.

fr. and girl scouts make less of a profit per sale than boy scouts do on their popcorn. plus, at least from when i was in there, they wouldn't let us accept donations (even though boy scouts are also allowed to accept donations smh)

I am months late to this but as someone who was a girl scout for 12 years,,, GIRL SCOUTS IS FOR THE GAYS, FREAKS, LOSERS, AND NEURODIVERGENTS. also i don't think troops can like turn someone away????? (minus yanno, crimes or bullying) I went to a school outside of my district and was still apart of my district's troops??
