i also did want to add that i appreciate this episode as a queer and possibly? asexual? person, hearing everyone’s perspectives always makes me feel more normal 🤘☮️

I had the vaginismis at 17y for my first few times. I went to the gp and they told me about actively relaxing. It worked almost straight away luckily for me. I also teach sex ed and social skills in a specialist school. Sex and social skills should be actively taught to everybody!

In Australia we have a newish government program called Respectful relationships for schools. Which covers a whole range of social and physical interaction. Its great. Im 27y and I had barely any sex ed. Luckily I had a psychologist for a parent who was on top of it haha

Matt

free episode, my broke ass has been blessed tonight

Matt

i also struggle with vaginismus adjacent issues (from childhood trauma) and its literally SO important for these things to be spoken about. Bc most ppl ive spoken to legit have never heard of it or having any struggles with penetrative sex. Not to mention how theres so many ways to be intimate besides sex, or that one kind of sex. Its so societally built in to think that you need to have piv sex to be fulfilled in ur intimate life, and more often then not its just a lack of information that creates the barrier

When I was younger I watched a C section on tv uncensored so I thought that was how all childbirths happened and started telling kids that.

The saddest thing about sex is people not understanding it's something you can study for and get better at

Sex ed in the UK in my experience (im 22 so this is as of the 2010s) was first in year 4 (we were around 7 or 8) i believe the school suggested that parents have "the talk" with us at home, because I remember going into school after having been told about it the night before, and everyone was talking about it. Then in year 6 (age 10) we had one sex ed lesson where we were split into classes of girls and boys and we each watched a gender-specific sex ed video, and the teachers brought in pads and condoms for us to look at, allowed us to ask questions - weirdly I remember that the boys video was all rock music and skateboards and like "look how cool sex is", and the girls video was a cute animation about "your body growing and looking weird and different" bizarre. Then in high school in year 8 (12 - 13 yrs old) we had sex ed as part of our biology classes where we learnt more about the biological processes of sex and the parts of the body associated with it. Then occasionally we would have an assembly about safe sex. I dont know if it was just my schools being woke or if this was common across the UK around this time but it was very comprehensive and detailed I suppose, however as an autistic kid who now identifies as asexual and hated being touched it felt like learning about body horror and the teachers telling me "you will 100% do this one day" was so horrifying that I ended up crying in classes and refusing to do homework about it 🫠

growing up religious changes the way you view sex so severely. i was told that it was this great big soul-tying thing that changes who you are on a fundamental level and then i got into a relationship and it was just this realisation of 'oh this is just a fun silly thing to do actually'. sex is so blown out of proportion in society i wish we could all just recognise that it is truly just a fun activity that can also result in a child if you want

Nessa

Helloooo fellow asexuals☺️

My experience of sex ed in the UK was a bit of a mixed bag. I'm pretty sure we had one class about it in primary school, but I must have either not been paying attention that particular day or just been absent for it, because when I had my first period (start of year 7) I did not know what periods were and so naturally I assumed I had some mad internal (now inexplicably external??) bleeding going on and was dying. Anyway - I was pretty pissed when we had our first secondary school sex ed class the week after.

i realize this isnt tech support but for months now i havent been able to watch anything on patreon because the videos just wont start, i open them in separate windows, i close all other apps so my phone can really focus on the task at hand, and theres nothing, just a dark grey window. does anyone here know why that is

In Canada, the sex ed we receive is part of the school curriculum (province based). In primary school, it wasn't a dedicated class, but a few lessons that would happen instead of a regular class. We did talk about reproduction in science class tho, when it was relevant. Fifth grade science was about plant and animal reproduction, so we talked about the difference between pollination, spores, ovipare, etc. In the sixth grade, part of science class was human anatomy and reproduction system, not sex, only the biological processes. In secondary school, the sex ed became wrapped up with other "teenager" concerns like alcohol and eating disorders. It was okay, talked about contraception, how to get condoms, and passed no moral judgment on any of it. I think it was missing some things, like talks about consent, the actual physical mechanics of sex, and non cishet sex. There was an implicit through line that there is one way to experience intimacy, and we would all get there in due time. (I also think this class happened too late, when we re 14-15yo, and I know for a fact some of my classmates had been having sex)

I came across this just now😂✌️I'm a virgin too at 21 years. Do I plan on staying a virgin? Ja. And I can't think of a reason why though

Virgin island or Sad Boyz?

I'm always curious about that kind of reaction. I only knew what my period was from books (thank you, libraries that let kids "run around unsupervised") since my mom was post-menopausal by that time and I never lived with any other women. Did you grow up in an all-male home, or was your mum (and/or other women around you) just really sneaky about their periods?

I can’t imagine that we in the 🇻🇮 would want to be responsible for any part of that 😂

I definitely agree that more people need some type of exposure therapy to sex and sex related topics. I'm asexual and have somehow been the main sex educator to one of my friends. she had never touched a condom so I was like ok let's open one and look at it and get familiar that's fine. we opened it, stretched it over my hand (to be silly) filled it with water like a water balloon for fun and after she told me she felt so much less scared
