Welcome Back!

Today we kick off a new show, American Hustle Life! We go back to the BEGINNING (12 years to be exact) with BABY BTS! We never thought we would get to this one because there is so much to watch, yet here we are. We've seen clips from this before and honestly it was hard to watch, but what happened was when we were in LA, RM told the story of how they've been to LA for AHL and basically looked us in the eye, so we knew for sure we had to watch this. It was a sign! We are excited to give it another chance and ready to jump in. So let's go!

This is a hard watch but it looks like there ARE going to be happy moments! Today the guys hop on a plane to LA and get kidnapped! They have no clue what Coolio has in store for them and we blame their managers for this. 🤣 This episode does leave us ready to fight but we are hoping now that they are more prepared maybe Ep 2 won't be so bad.

Let us know in the comments if anyone else was traumatized from Ep 1?

HERE FOR THIS so let’s get it before I regret rewatching some of this episodes 😭

Desiray Marshall

I can’t watch it yet because I’m at work but seeing the thumbnail has me scared😭

Mishi

OHH NOOOOOO IM NOT READY FOR THISS 😭😭 im excited but scared...i wouldnt be surprised if one of yall tear up seeing certain parts later on especially being so INTO the fandom its so awkward tooo. THE HORROR MUSIC CUTS, EDITING AND NARRATOR MADE IT WORSE💀

jeonjitae🪭

this show is so cringe and sad but as it progresses, you will realize how important this is to them knowing their foundation is hip-hop. one of the best BTS album ( DARK AND WILD) was born after this show.

Mishi

sameee 😭 its so OLD SCHOOL too i might cringe out haha

Desiray Marshall

Honestly and when they “kidnap” that’s going to upset me so muchhhh

jeonjitae🪭

a few years after this, they still in contact with the rappers in the show and it’s just endearing

Anija

It gets better after the second episode lol I loved this reaction 💜

uncle baby billy

well… i mean it’s bts history, you gotta see it.. IMPORTANT history

KimSeok2ParkMinjeon⁷99

Aaaah the day is finally here 🎉i hated this show first time i saw it,i was really pissed off 🤣but now it's one of the shows are truly appreciate with how it shaped and taught BTS so many lessons 🥹💜

HalSonyeondan

Yeah the first episode is always a very hard watch 😂😩 Especially with Jungkook he was a baby it hurts to see

HalSonyeondan

Always having to remember where they’re at now and they’re okay 🥹

ghint

Okay, here goes nothing. I never imagined I'd be watching this again, but here we are. It’s an important piece of their history after all

ghint

Day 1 of asking you guys to watch the Tannies on Knowing Bros! It’s hilarious and chaotic, you’re gonna love it

Desiray Marshall

I’m watching while I’m on register in between customers and I got to the part but they made them take off their shoes and tell me why I started to tear up Jungkook looks so scared he was so little😭

RaeK

“Better than y’all” STOPP SUMMER DONT KILL ME 😂😂😂😂

Dasia

This show omg... not only is it just cringe in general, it also played up so many "scary black man" stereotypes in that first episodes (Mnet: deep sigh) but like so many other ARMY said, it's their foundation and why we can proudly say they truly understand the culture! DARK AND WILD came after and is definitely in my Top5 BTS albums!

Susheila

I tried to watch again even with you guys so I would not be “alone “ and I couldn’t do it . I agree they were kids . It was not okay even if they grew from it .

Tiffany

I’ve only seen clips so this is my first time watching the full episode. Why am I wanting to fast forward through some of these parts lol. I feel so awkward watching it🫣🫣

OT7Bangtan

I get that it's younger BTS. But taking on the title as a rap group, this is the challenge they needed. For those who don't understand Hip Hop, those guys took it easy on them. I don't agree with the prank, but as things go on you will realize why it happened. Coolio asking them vital questions about Hip Hop and the members not knowing the answers is an example of how people perceive BTS's knowledge of the genre, and therefore judge them for being posers. Its not enough to love something, but having general knowledge is important. I won't give anything away regarding why Coolio was harsh on V, because I'm waiting for you guys to see it. But there are multiple reasons why he gave V tough love in that moment. Also, RIP Coolio.

uncle baby billy

stop i actually really really love it 😂😂 i can’t wait for the next ep !!! am i the only one?

1osaki

The show is actually really good and tbh the worst of the worst is over ( in my opinion) 😂 despite the cringe, but I will say it is important to watch and it was important to bts because it did teach them a lot and taught them right from wrong in regards to black culture and hip hop culture and as a Black American I deeply appreciate that. Although that first introduction to America I believe was definitely not the way to go😭 and for that I blame the managers for putting them through that.

FengShen Gi

Coolio has passed away since this so RIP Coolio

Spacylady01

Agreed! Also I wanna add that at the end of the day its a tv show and I feel like they probably told Coolio to play it up for the cameras.

Keren Metz

I've purposely only watched the first episode before as I could not handle it (just like Summer), but I'll go along with you for this ride. Yeah, this show is cringe and I do blame the Mnet producers bec. they were playing on racist stereotypes here. even intentionally driving thru Skid Row. Even in their book, AHL was barely mentioned at all. But I really believe this part of their journey built up their confidence and character.

OT7Bangtan

I also agree with that. Its like, playing into the hand of a new audience. Like..."this is Hip Hop".

Latkat

I am so excited to rewatch this with you. This shows has many beautiful and fun moments. Yes, there are some hard to watch but overall it is a beautiful show. 💜💜💜💜

ana

yeah I haven’t binged this so it’s definitely gonna be interesting rewatching w u guys again😭. it can be cringe and very awkward but it is apart of their journey

OT7Bangtan

At this time, Nam was really disappointed in some of the other members because they didn't listen to a lot of music. He kept trying to drive home the importance of music. Like, he was really in his feelings about their lack of exposure to other music genres. So imagine being apart of a rap group and most of your members have zero clue what rap really is. Fast forward, V is heavy into so music. Listens to every genre. The rapline and V have been officially invited to the cookout...meaning...they have been embraced by the black community because of their discography.

Mishi

"TONYYYYYYYYY" lmao. and omg the "mok?" "milkkk"? scene lmao

Alice Smith

Coolio has passed away since this so please show some respect please. I know you're mad but this is what they needed to all understand about hip-hop besides Rm and Suga. And yes they ran into Tony on a trip to America at a resturant years later.

Daniela Knapp

this first episode is so horrible, they were Babys, only Joonie spoke the Language , be left alone by your Manager and get kidnapped by some scary dudes and have no clue what happens, whoever came up with this scenario deserve to be punished , our poor kookie he tried so hard not to cry , it makes me every single time so so angry about the person who decided to do this

Angela Deshon

The first few episodes were somewhat tough for me to watch, but it really does grow on you once it's just Nate and Tony guiding them. I love the way Tony and Jimin connect as well as Nate and Tae, especially after the way Coolio sorta prejudged Tae from the beginning. Also, you will finally see where Jimin's nickname "Chim Chim" originated!

ghint

Relax, Summer. things start getting better after episode 3🥹 the first two eps are definitely the worst.

CJ

The Iron Man socks 🤗💜

Alice Smith

Everyone just needs to put on your big girl and boy pants on and enjoy this historical show that helped them grow. Finally Summer understands the process instead of being so negative for 4 years about watching this.

chim

summer be like: protective mom mode on im cryaimgsdjhvbsdjgbv

jozz muñoz

Nooooo, no veré esto! Wajjajaja me he visto todo el contenido de los chicos excepto por esto, no será ahora el momento 🥲

2026-10-01 19:00 I think that’s why I struggle watching, the way they painted the black men in the show. I agree though that this show is part of the reason that BTS was able to grow their appreciation for hip hop and the culture.

Kim.Sunny117

I think AHL taught them so many things about life and music. I guess why they are so different than any other kpop groups. Jin also developed a more positive mindset from being on the show. Cringe is right, but more important than that, AHL did help with their character development and expose them on how a real artist work. I have always thought kpop painted as perfect people who are untouchable and somewhat "godly". BTS had always given me different vibe, and after watching AHL, I can see why. I watched AHL before I did Run BTS. lol 😅

Rose⟭⟬

This is gonna be my first time watching AHL (glad to be watching it with y'all) but oh my goodness! literally had to fight back tears, especially being a Jungkook bias😭they were so young!! But I'm glad to be going down this journey with yall💜

C⁷🤞

Daniel really spent the whole episode being AHL’s defense attorney 😂 Every time something questionable happened he was like, “but maybe there’s a positive side” haha. While I'm sitting here with almost tears in my eyes because of the look on their terrified and confused faces😭 Anyway haha, I’m gonna sit the rest of AHL out, but I hope you enjoy the upcoming episodes more. There will be some wholesome moments💜 Edit: Just wanna add that I can understand why some people see AHL as a valuable experience for BTS, and i'm glad they were able to take something from it. But I also think it's completely fair for others to feel uncomftable watching it. Liking or disliking the show doesn't mean anyone cares about BTS more or less, people just react to it differently.

BorahaeOT7

I’ve watched ALL of the BTS content—like, literally all of it—EXCEPT AHL. 😭 I was so scared to watch it because of the kidnapping prank and the way they were treated in the earlier episodes. I was honestly so sad seeing them go through that (but I know it’s part of the storyline lol). But lemme try watching this with you guys. 😂 I can always skip it if I have to because my heart can’t handle it lol.

Ezel⁷ ⊙⊝⊜

After the 2nd episode it’s fine and not too aggressive, be patient guys 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Abigail CCW

I think we learned this after episode 2! I feel so bad I was hating but I was sad for BTS 😭 RIP 🙏🏼

Rose⟭⟬

Alsooo! I remember I’ve only ever seen Tony Jones through short clips around the internet since I never watched AHL yet. He also did some reactions to BTS on YouTube, but they were uploaded on a friend of Tony’s channel! I don’t remember what year it was, but BTS was already really big by then when he reacted to them. I just thought it was cool since he got to see how far they've come.😁🙌🏽

Steph

They didn’t disrespect him at all

domina💜

Idk yall… i love this show tbh LMAO

ColombianCousinsAndWives

I am always playing Devil's advocate or peace keeper. It's my way of not falling too far in the deep end 😅

domina💜

Heartbroken tears? Is it really that sad or just uncomfortable lmao?

Geórgia Cordeiro Dantas

This reaction was as great as I expected. I related so much! Thank you CCW! Summer is such a mood. That was me the first time I watched it. I was like "Who the F thought this prank was ok? They are all kids!!!!". I am sorry to say CCW you guys are not in the clear yet with the awkward situations of this show. HOWEVER, it was a defining moment in their carreer and I think in the end you will be glad you watched. You will be in "the know". Gabriel at the end saying "I would've thought the manager sold me off" got me. It was so FUNNY!

Cutae

Ok.. it’s my first watch with yall… I’m so scared😱. I rly can’t handle cringe things, I hope I survive this series with you😭😭

akaV⁷✌🏼⊙⊝⊜

Didn't RM know about it? Not the full extent but that something was going to happen when they arrive. Thought I read he was told either right before or some time before the "kidnapping" that this was going to happen. Isn't this why he's not alarmed, and why he didn't say anything?

Libby Farina Gabeybaby

Agree as well, but to add to that, if the cringe is uncomfortable, just keep in mind, that’s one of the major aspects of reality tv…a lot of it is in the way it’s edited. If you’ve read their book, there is a section on their AHL experience. I can’t remember who said it, but they had a blast shooting this, and have so many fond memories, that were cut from the show.

OT7Bangtan

Exactly!!!! If BTS left things up to ARMY to decide on what to do with their career, they would've passed up on so many opportunities. I agree. Its a reality show. I never once heard BTS speak ill of this experience.

Tabii🪷

been an army for 10 years and this is my first time watching it with you guys so these were my exact reactions 😣🧘‍♀️

Tabii🪷

literally they didn’t disrespect him, that’s just normal reaction to what’s goin on, everyone’s confused including us too

Lavv

Omg yess!! and the past bts festas with it so many content they still need to get through

jin

AHL and Rookie King were the only shows out when I became an army, this is so nostalgic 🥹

Tabii🪷

literally me too 😭😭and i’ve been an army for a decade now

Geórgia Cordeiro Dantas

Really looking foward your comments in this series as well. I am curious about some new perspectives on AHL

Stephanie Dixon

Also yall have to keep this in mind, Bang and BigHit wanted these hard to watch moments. It don’t make it ok and I wish someone would have said “let’s not do this” but they didn’t. Also the guys had problematic moments with words in the past but this show taught them the history of Hip Hop. This show is one of the reasons some Armies of Color became armies. Because yes we can’t deny something’s that happened in the past but we seen, how much they respect and love Hip Hop and their sincerity… also they were just kids. Now we know them and love them. I’m happy for this journey!!!

Geórgia Cordeiro Dantas

Really curious about your perspectives throught the show. Looking foward to your comments too :)

Geórgia Cordeiro Dantas

I am excited to see your perspective on AHL. Looking foward your comments (at least on the episodes you succeed in watching :D)

cuesegue .

Everyone has a different reaction, for me it was anger and I think a lot of that was a maternal instinct, but I understand that others may have teared up, cried, laughed or got angry so tearing up is valid.

Jessica

I mean I get it but they needed this. If they were just another kpop group appropriating black culture I would not be a fan. But they know hip-hop history & culture, always show respect to it and encourage others to learn, have learned from legends, and that’s why their respected by western artists today.

Angie7

As a mom that TOTALLY WAS NOT OK…and I’m sorry but kidnapping is not a part of hip hop it’s a freaking crime….You will never convince me this was needed. When my daughter showed me this i said “boy they’re good actors” she said “ mom they are not acting” my heart literally hurt for these boys!

cuesegue .

Yeah I have mixed feelings about several bits in this show and although there were so many great parts as well, some of the things had nothing to do with HipHop or the culture in any capacity.

Shreya

I think you forgot about this but in their Disney documentary bts beyond the star they describe this period between 2014 to 2015 and the preparation for dark and wild was one if their lowest point in their careers and it’s not only because of the scary atmosphere because that lasts for only 2 -3 days but it’s the whole schedule , remember during the next eps that while they were recording dark and wild in the behind the scenes of American hustle life

Deanna C

Soo cringe but it's such a classic now to understand the memes and inside jokes 😃

Patricia

omg Summer, i bet you're gonna love jimin here even more lol. AHL and Rookie King were the shows that made jimin my bias. He was just so cute and endearing!!!

domina💜

I do personally believe 3/4 out of the members knew it was a prank there were cameras everywhere in the dorm. And for those who didn’t know, they 100% got it towards the end and if they didn’t get it im sure staff let them know BEFORE they went to sleep

Kylee Rodriguez

Watching this gives me so much anxiety 😭 I literally cannot

Samii

I can’t watch this omfg

Geórgia Cordeiro Dantas

CCW for episode 2 make sure to watch the one with the unreleased cut. There are fun extra scenes there, including a popular BTS meme For the context, why many armys have issues with watching AHL, is not only the "awkward" situations, but once the cameras cut BTS work did not stop. They were making and recording an album and preparing for comeback at the same time they were filming this. So they were absolutely exausted. All of them point to this period as a desperate and low point in their carreer. As Summer pointed ou, during this time they were willing to do almost anything. So it can be hard to watch knowing how exausted and overworked they were.

Teresa Nike

Respectfully I didn't see any disrespect towards Coolio they just reacted to his behavior, which is a normal reaction when anyone treats someone like he did. I have nothing against Coolio but if I see mistreatment of anyone I think its okay to point out ones behavior.

Jodi

I actually really enjoy this show for them. They really did learn a lot yes the first episode isn’t very comfortable to watch but after that and the horrible guy leaving they really do enjoy themselves and have a lovely relationship with Nate and Tony

Ruzi

It's not cringe at all for me :) I think this experience was really needed for them to become who they are today. Life is tough and you need the tough experience.

Diana Casillas

OMG!!! So, I found BTS in 2016. I mean, it was still pretty early in their career, but AHL was still constantly mentioned back then. So it ended up being one of the first BTS shows I watched while I was still learning their names, literally within the first week of finding out who they were. I mean, we only had Rookie King, AHL, Bon Voyage S1, and like 15 Run BTS episodes back then, so yeah, I decided to get to know them through AHL first. Disclaimer: I’m not from the US, so watching this show at the time wasn’t that cringy to me. I mean, it was kind of what I, as someone outside of hip-hop culture, knew about it from TV (like those MTV-type shows from back then), so to me, it was actually pretty fun most of the time. There were a few things I remember feeling sad about while watching, like how Coolio treated Taehyung, but then as the show progressed and Coolio left, I really started to like it. I was about to write about one of my favorite parts, but it might be a spoiler, so I’ll wait until you upload that episode. So yeah, long story short, for me, this was a fun show to get to know BTS and learn a little more about hip-hop. I hope watching your reactions to it will be as fun as I remember it being. I'M EXCITED!!

Victorya Rocha

this whole episode causes me shame. The old stuff like very old bts sometimes doesn't make me want to see it. this is painful and sometimes there are relief scenes with me... but it's something hard to see

TaeTaeBear ⁷ 💜

Omg this gonna be a hard watch especially as Tae bias 😔😔😔😔

Victorya Rocha

One more thing we have to note. Clearly it would be this brutality precisely to adapt them to situations like this. See, nowadays namjoom knows how to deal with these situations very well. all of them there were paid and monitored to do this experience with BTS. clearly nothing would go to the extreme side. some people call it a social test, this was their test. even more so at this time of year. they trusted BTS in the hands of black people who know what hip hop does, precisely in America. so I think it's good we don't forget that part

Somayah Hamed

Love you all but I’m gonna skip this one🩷

Annmarie

So true!! Also the love the bonds the boys made especially Jimin with Tony, Tae with Nate, and Joon and Suga with Warren G 🥹

Annmarie

The iron man socks 🥹 the beginning is truly such a weird and shocking part of the show, they totally could’ve gone without the “kidnapping” part especially 😭😭😭 Also Taehyung truly has such a strong backbone and character, I love how despite receiving confusing and possibly harsher treatment than he’s used to, he stayed bright and didn’t let it affect his journey negatively! I’m so proud of how he deals with situations throughout the years, his emotional maturity shines! This experience was truly a good foundation for all of the members and the bonds they made (Jimin and Tony, Tae and Nate, RM/Suga with Warren G, & other teachers in future episodes) effected them deeply 🫶💜 from here on the episodes do get better, there’s still an amount of cringe though lol

TaeTaeBear ⁷ 💜

I was watching this like Summer I can’t 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Sameera

yass, I'm so excited to rewatch with you guys! It gets MUCH better as it goes and there is quite a bit of cringe but I still thing it's a important watch Also, you guys should check out the documentary movies that accompany each show! The movies have different scenes or expand on scenes that didn't make it into the episodes. It'd be really cool if you guys watch the movie and then watch the commentary reaction of bts watching their movie

TaeTaeBear ⁷ 💜

That’s not the preview, that’s what they were doing before they got kidnapped , like extra footages 😭😭😭

BorahaeOT7

thinking of this makes me laugh so hard. it's so cute lol

BorahaeOT7

I will try lol. Thank you for the encouragement :D

Amanda Michelle

Well said. I know ARMY doesn't like parts of this show, but I definitely think it's a must-watch for all ARMY. Coolio gave them a bit of a hard time but he wasn't truly mean to them. He was using tough love because, hey, this is America. :) Also, RIP Coolio. <3

BabyDoll

The prank was extreme and in poor taste but I personally think some comments are just people being too dramatic. The show REALLY helped shape their hiphop career and helped give them so much hiphop credibility with Icons like Coolio, Warren G etc AHL was a part of their much needed growth especially as they have rappers in the group. Overall, it was a learning process which was also entertaining.

Rayssa Barboza

Bro I’m already cringing for this and for the other episodes that are yet to come

Judith Lopez

sooo ive tried watching this several times but i cant seem to get pass episode 2. I know it gets better, i've seen clips and i know it was good for their growth and probably even shaped the way they feel about music today, but is just not my kind of show: cringe, sometimes disrespectful and they were being overworked sleeping like 2 hours per day (they were creating dark & wild while filming this program) But im gonna watch all episodes for the first time with you. Maybe having some company helps 😭

Kasapo Mwanza

I can’t watch this show.. will see you guys when it’s done 😅

therealdydyy

“TONYY” (in jimin’s voice)🤭

Wendy

Thanks for reacting to this show, man that kidnapping scene is so hard to watch, they were so young and innocent, I think it did leave a lasting memory, I say that because remember in Bon Voyage 8, when they drove them to have the special dinner and it looked like a construction site. Jin said, "It's like Malta Hustle Life", "we were tricked again", I thought you weren't going to trick us again. Jimin said, "Why are you doing this to us"? HL was in 2014 and BV8 was in 2018, four years later the thought was still there.

Ahjusshi_Brown

Tonyyy~ Oh the amount of OG bangtan memes CCW's gonna see and not even recognize through this show 😂😂 well maybe most (relatively new) ARMYs

Jessica

RM & Suga needed this the most. Especially since they were the main writers and rappers. RM was a bit ignorant before this show toward black culture and he’s grown so much. I hate the stereotypically scary black man tropes in this show. It’s BS. But they having to spend time with black ppl, in black cities, learning black & hip-hop culture was so necessary to their development

Nehal Elsamahy

Same!! I've literally watched and rewatched every piece of BTS content out there except this show because I'm scared of how I'll react to it. But maybe watching with other ARMYs will make it easier.

kay

i've been army for a long time but i never could bring myself to watch this show. you guys are giving me the courage to watch it with you. thank you

Ana Paula

I really like the show. I know there are some cringeworthy moments, but it’s worth remembering that it came out over ten years ago—a time when exaggerations and other sensationalist tactics were the norm. But overall, it’s great to see the guys back at the beginning, with the joy of youth and their early dreams; it’s just so unique and so good!😍❤️💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Lindy

I agree with you, Summer, who was the fool who invented this story about kidnapping the boys? A bad joke... They were teenagers, foreigners, they didn"t speak English... only RM, and even he was nervous. The only one who suspected it was a prank was Sugar, because he admitted he saw the cameras. And Coolio passed away in 2022, but he certainly knew about BTS's success. We will still feel shame and anger from some of those scenes.

Michelle

tony even reacts to some videos on fo squads rxn channel a while back. and he even had some event where he gave away a cool jean jacket he designed for army

Kenny

You guys definitely watched a shortened episode, but I’m excited for this anyway! Very cringe but also a necessary and overall fun watch in totality. The prank is awful to get through even now, yes, but overall they probably learned a lot of lessons about how not to act. Appropriation is big issue when it comes to black culture, especially within Kpop. They weren’t at all innocent when it comes to that back then either, so it I think it was a decently, and necessary, humbling experience. Helped shaped who they are today. Can’t wait for the next one!

Kookielove82

ugh i swore i would never watch this again... it makes me too mad

Kenny

Also one of my favorite things that I noticed on first watch, the original lineup when they got to the accommodation had Yoongi sitting in the middle, but you can tell he noticed the cameras. At some point they switch him with Jimin, but that part is edited out. So there was definitely something in the middle of that scene that we didn’t see. I definitely think Yoongi clocked it was staged from the jump. Would be on brand for him, lol.

psa

but you can see how he was brought up by his grandparents, with how innocent and carefree he is, right? it warms my heart

psa

wait you can comment here with photos now? that's cool

Rebecca Kelly

since becoming army for 6 years now i have avoid this show at all cost. i guess ill watch and get it over with. sigh

Pilar Farfalla

I couldn't watch the first episode all the way through; it was very intense. However, the other episodes are definitely calmer and feature some very interesting experiences. I think it's well worth it in the end, it's part of who BTS are now.

Cheyenne

I absolutely adored watching your reaction to this! Especially summer LMAO. 😂 It's a good show and there are moments that are uncomfortable but overall i liked it. It's not something they would ever wanna do again tho. BTW yoongi caught onto the kidnapping thing.

Zellyfy

I’ve never watched this… Well I started and I couldn’t get through it because I think of their age and the experience and it makes me feel uncomfortable… idk how to explain it. But I will watch it with ya’ll now.

bowie is tired

i’ve never been really affected by the kidnapping scene, but for some reason rewatching it with you guys made me cry a little 😭😭 JUNGKOOK WAS JUST A KID!!!!! but anyway, you will love this show by the end of it! (despite the stereotypes, cringe, and few harsh scenes)

IcedLemonK

After the Coolio episodes, it gets better. It was hard for me too. I got so mad for them. It's hard at first, but I am sure you will like the series.

Tea27

There is for sure some highs and lows in this show, but it is a formative moment in their career so i’d say it’s a must watch for armys, despite the cringe stuff 😬

LifeisBetterwithBTS

I absolutely hate this show. I don’t care if it has a happy ending or not. It was very mean and unnecessary. There is no excuse for this mental and verbal abuse. Period. It doesn’t matter if it’s BTS or not. The show runners should be ashamed of themselves. I will stand on this soapbox forever. Do the ends justify the means?

RachyOT7

I just have to say that BangPD had no say in this. Mnet needed a group, we know they urged harsh behavior for “entertainment value”. The kid at the airport told us years later that the producers told him to be rough with BTS. Mnet egged it on. BUT army can say with pride that BTS did their very best through the entire thing!!! they were genuinely themselves. Also, is this not the reason why BangPD got sponsors for BV so that they could do their own show and not be under any others.

TaeTaeBear ⁷ 💜

Yess he was so innocent and cute in this but they were mean about it is was sad to watch 🥺🥺

Latkat

Yes, just 16 years old. Moments in the first three episodes were hard to watch. After that it gets better. 💜

Latkat

Love Tony and his interactions with Jimin

min

yalls reaction and the post-episode debrief made this much more bearable 😭

Geórgia Cordeiro Dantas

Yeah. It is a hard watch. JK was almost a child. Hobi was terrified out of his mind. *SPOILERS* Dante forcing Yoongi and Jin and physically striking Jin, Tae who was 18 being hit on by adult women, all 7 being put in humiliating situations, and so on *END OF SPOILERS* So many uncomfortable and inapropriate things to do to powerless kids. But I do defend AHL is a valid watch to see a defining moment of BTS as people. To see them honestly trying to learn about Black culture and the people in the show that were genuinely trying to teach them about Black culture.

kookiekosmos

22:43 the wives' faces are sending me lmao

Seth S

There are also clearly cuts in this. When they're in the dorm it starts off with Yoongi sitting next to Jungkook and then a little while later Yoongi is suddenly sitting on the end of the couch and Jimin is next to JK. There's probably more acting and direction going on than we realize. The first 2-3 eps are the hardest to get through, but it gets so much better after

jooniesbonsai 🪴⊙⊝⊜

and even on the run bts telepathy episode when they told them to wear those froggy blindfolds and let them to the elevators and one of them was like "are we filming american hustle life 2?" 😭

It could be that the editing team just cut some of the hazing the "kidnappers" did for running time limit in the episode. Or cut it because they thought some of the hazing was not in good taste. But obviously there are missing scenes. Unless someone part of the production team declared BTS were all in on it, I truelly don't believe they were all acting. Maybe some members were in on it, or maybe some caught on to what was happening. Yoongi does look "calmer" than the others, for exemple. But not all 7. They were not that good of actors back then. Hobi looked absolutely terrified. I am sorry if it sounds mean, but I don't believe Hobi could have pulled off that level of acting 1 year into his idol carreer.

This is the one show I watched once and I never went back to rewatch 😂😂😂

Coolio was a good mentor to them, may he rest in peace 🙏🏼🤍

I think Zaire was the worst later on. If I’m remembering the challenges.

Brit

isn't there behind the scenes content?

Brit

w/ some certified classic bangtan memes?

Tae

And the concept of black men kidnapping them? Umm??? Couldn't they have done something else…?

Melissa Barnes

Same! There may be some cringe and questionable moments but our boys really shone and showed everyone their great personalities and attitude in life

Same! I saw this early on during my baby army phase and it endeared them to me instead of feeling the cringe or overly bad about anything as am also outside of America or hip hop

Jeonstastic

When they talk about jungkook’s Ironman socks I lose it everytime 💔💔 he was literally a kid

Rae Avilez

I seriously hate this first episode! Like I will be fast forwarding quite a bit. I have watched this series a few times but I have never made it through the whole first episode. Like others have said the worst is over and there are some really key moments here that I can't wait to see your reactions too. But this first one...

SHE-nanigans

It took me one a half year of being an ARMY before i watched this series.. beacuse of all the cringe moments… but this series was also the thing that made me realize why BTS as so humble and appreciative of what they have become.

Baylis

sorry guys this is such a hard watch for me😭 important for yall to watch to see what they were taught! but makes me feel so mad in some parts, they were so young and in a completely different country for the first time. ill catch yall on the next doc, but enjoy!

carlagirl7 .

Playing catch up so just watching your reaction!

Since I had no idea who BTS was when I came across AHL, one thing I did notice about the “kidnapping” is that while in the van, one of the guys looks directly into the camera, I would later come to know it was Suga! So if anything, at least one member REMEMBERED they are being filmed. I also thought one was “fake sleeping” ( RM, just didn’t know who he was)💜

Fifi

I understand why people’s first reaction is, “but Joon speaks English, why didn’t he say anything?” However, English was still his second language, he was in a frightening situation in a foreign country, and saying the wrong thing could have made matters worse. Most importantly, he was still a kid himself. He was only 19. Expecting him to know how to navigate that situation simply because his English was better than the others’ feels unfair to him, even if I can understand where the question comes from. This show is understandably one of their most polarising, but much like Festa dinner 2022, I’ll always advocate for watching it at least once. It’s such a significant part of BTS’ foundation and contains insight into hip-hop and Black music culture which help us appreciate and understand BTS' music and influences. That said, as a black ARMY, both back then and today I could have lived without the stereotypical portrayal of the "big scary black man" being used to kidnap the lads 🫠

Favour 💓

I tried to watch this show but when I saw how they portrayed us in the van scene I gave up

Oongi

Omg as a black army i was mortified the first time i watched the prank 😭 😭 i hate that that was pretty much the first impression of black people irl for them.. looking back im glad they absorbed some important information and experiences from this show but we could’ve done without that part 😭 i always just think about how in that moment they probably actually thought their lives were in danger so that fear is too real to be funny even after the fact.

sctxoxo

This was just as cringe when it came out, mnet has a history of playing in trainees faces. This made me appreciate BTS respect for hip hop and namjoons knowledge, at the time K-pop was full of ignorance and disrespect towards black people (even more than now), BTS stood out to me because they actually showed some dang respect for the genre they were producing.

Chimimontana

Im embarrassed to admit that I avoided this, but Ill watch it along wth you guys.

Sina Yazzie

I can not bring myself to watch this AHL willingly on my own. Kidnapping? I'm with Summer, who thought this was a good idea...andddddd where in hip hop do rappers kidnap others? Anyway, REST IN PARADISE, Coolio

Ryuken Fujiwara

Bang Si Hyuk (the guy in light sky blue) at 9:00 minute mark is the founder, Chairman, and former CEO of HYBE. In other words, BTS boss.
