TLDR: read the last paragraph

What should I post on Patreon? Behind the scenes videos? Exclusive livestreams? Bonus videos unavailable to the larger public?

Behind the scenes tamper with the audiences reckoning with the final product. Deleted scenes are deleted because the final product is better without them.

I’ve decided I like livestreaming and I’m good at it and it’s a viable source of income, but I am uncomfortable being required to do them by schedule and I am uncomfortable leaving hours of riffing and banter public in perpetuity to be dissected and held against me as though it were calculated performance.

I don’t do reviews, reactions, bite sized commentary. I don’t take requests. A bonus video would inevitably consume me into obsession with quality and passionate execution, at the end of which I would want as many people to have it as possible. I know I could make money through artificial scarcity by hiding things behind a paywall, but it’s messy, and I’d constantly impulsively leak my exclusive #content. It’s not me.

What should I post on Patreon? What’s the exciting version of this? Is there a part of me that is yet untapped that is appropriate to this medium?

———

I fucking love interacting with fans. I simply think Twitter or the Youtube comment section is an insufficient manner in which to do it.

I’m also haunted when stopped on the street for a photo. God I wish I could do more, but all we have is one minute. It’s not your responsibility as an audience member to cross an unbridgeable divide in a minute. I wish I could do more.

...

How about this?

A show!

30 minute conversations with fans.

DM me on Patreon, tag your DM “Social No Para”. Tell me a couple sentences about yourself and tell me a couple sentences on something you would want to talk to me about.

Once a month I pick a conversation that seems productive. Once a month I have a productive conversation.

I record it, I whittle it down to its highlights. Once a month I share that conversation with the rest of Patreon.

Starting January 2022, continuing every month this year.

Social No Para: Conversations With CJ The X.

I can do this. This feels meaningful. This makes sense.

———

ENUMERATING THINGS CLEARLY:

Any Patron of mine on patreon.com is welcome to Patreon DM me seeking to feature on Social No Para. Tell me who you are and what you want to talk about. I’ll sift through these and pick the one that vibes best that month, then will schedule the call, which will be about 30 min. The calls will be recorded and edited and published to Patreon.

I will also be responding to Patreon DMs in general more regularly, and there will continue to be sporadic moody prose drops.

I think this is really exciting! I would love this and think it's a great alternative to the other things you mentioned (which I really don't like anyway; behind the scenes feels like a chore to watch for example).

Sarahodo

LOVE IT ❤️❤️❤️

I just view Patreon as a way to pay you for what I see on YouTube, I have exactly zero expectations. Anything else is just extra joy in my day. That said, direct conversations sounds amazing.

AV

This is a really cool idea and I'm really curious to see what kind of videos come from it. Tho I do want to say, I often see the people I Patreon struggle trying to figure out how they make it 'worth it' for their patrons. But the whole idea of being a patron to me is 'you are already doing the thing, I'm just interested enough and socially conscious enough to give you money for it'. Maybe that is just me and the benefits of being a patreon really increases your numbers. I have definitely leveled up my patreon stuff to get access to like director's commentaries before? But overall I think people are here because you are already doing the thing they enjoy.

SunnSkullDream

THIS IS A REALLY good idea so I went from follow to I want IN. -signed someone who only has patreon followers and no money. . . You'll be getting my DM shortly love.

Bailey Vogt

I'm shocked no creator has ever thought of this. It's damn brilliant

Karina Sanchez

Just like AV said who you are as a person is enough. I want to help in whatever way I can so you can thrive as you make the content I love. Honestly I watch your videos so many times I almost feel guilty not to contribute

Fork Julius LaRue

All of that sounds great. Like others have said, I don't like the idea of you having to do a bunch of extra work for us. You already do the thing and we happily pay you. But you will do what you want (obviously) and I'm on board with it. I would just prefer you don't work yourself to death. Stay classy and much love.

Fry Exists Under Capitalism

I'd repeat what others have said here, I'm on here bc I like your videos and want to support you creating them, not bc I want extra content. That said this sounds rad and I'm looking forward to watching :)

Seoyoung Park

kept fucking reading "social no para" wondering why the fuck cj was talking in spanish

Andrea Obaez

How about bite sized commentary on social developments that connect back to your previous videos?

Shaynna

To be honest, I will watch or read anything you post on here; you are one of the most intelligent and eloquent human beings I have ever had the privilege of coming across on the internet. I think I would actually be afraid to talk to you for 30 minutes but I would love watching a show where you speak with people about anything, that sounds great !

Duke86fan

I don't have enough of a personality or unique interests for it

Rory Murphy-Cload

I agree with Cogwheel - I'm paying you money because I want to. Your YouTube videos are awesome.

Rory Murphy-Cload

Also agree with Shaynna - I I'll watch anything you give me daddy 🍽️

Brilliant honestly
