On June 1st I will start reading Zen & The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance alongside you.

First of all, official acronym for this bitch is ZMM. Let’s get that out the way.

Secondly, this book is half narrative half philosophy essay. The narrative is not particularly fast paced and the narrator is not particularly reliable. The book is simultaneously someone trying to think through something and trying to feel through something.

Thirdly, it is a fictionalized autobiography. You can largely appreciate the events as true.

It’s about 400 pages, so we are reading about 100 pages a week. June 1st is a Wednesday, so each of following Wednesday of the month I’ll post a thread wherein we’ll share our favourite quotes and our ongoing thoughts. That's the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th.

(If you find these quotes compelling you’re always welcome to join in the reading later on!)

FINALLY at thE END on JUNE 30th we’ll do a livestream to talk about the book in real time! I will reference our threads of quotes/Patreon DMs/emails and facilitate conversation.

(Then we move right along to the sequel Lila!)

So off we go together into a thing!

If you want to participate, remember you always have the option of just pulling up a free PDF online, super fucking easy to find. And if you like a physical copy like me, this book is in all of the libraries and stores. All of them.

Happy reading. Keep track of your choice quotes. We are on the side of art etc!

I hope you're seeking Quality today!

I'm so excited for this! I'm having my brother get it from his uni library tomorrow. Thank you for starting this!

In case this helps anyone, Libby is an incredible app where you can borrow audiobooks for free from any library you have a card for... https://libbyapp.com (ZMM is a 15-hr listen, 4ish hrs a week ain't bad)

As a quality manager of medical devices, I am super curious if the described concept of Quality applies to art and products alike. It would be very interesting to see if philosophy on Quality fits with standards and regulations' opinion on Quality, or can shed new lights on the practical application of it. Happy to be here :D

any way you could supply an anchor for where to stop each week for ebook readers? Like chapter number? Just realized page numbers on kindle are not the same as physical copies.

Usefully, it turns out I forgot that Zen & The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is literally divided into four parts. Like it starts with a big giant page that says PART I and then there's big pages for PART II and III and IV so those are aggressively logical anchors I will stick to
