[AGE RESTRICTION LIFTED, FINALLY]

Art is subjective. It's open to interpretation. That's what makes it beautiful.

-----------------

I did not put patron names in the credits because it was aesthetically better that I did not.

However:

I want to genuinely thank you all for your Patreon support, it is because of that regular income I was able to spend 10 weeks doing this research and work. There is more of my heart in this piece than most others, if not all of the others.

Book club back up in August and much more to come.

Summer Book Club: IT'S GOOD MULTIPLAYER. I couldn't help also thinking that the multiplayer experience of artistic experience is very similar to that of the best learning experiences. A great class is great multiplayer.

valentin

i already reached out to you on instagram but im not sure im gonna get through to you there. the video has been age restriced (at least for me) for some reason unknown to anyone. maybe it was because you were spitting truths the youth simply cannot handle...

ive been thinking about the mr beast to cj the x spectrum and a question that has formed in my mind is: are advertisements art? ive been thinking about this and i cant really come to a conclusion that satisfies me.

so I’d written this long-ass comment about how your video is so good it made me want to throw up but Encanto actually very effectively delivers it’s essence because of reasons or whatever. but I’ve listened to the video a couple more times since then and I just - you were so right. I’m left with the exact same feeling as realizing after the fact that I’d fallen in love with with someone’s potential…? It’s a bummer because we totally deserve an actually good story about generational trauma, and Encanto isn’t that, but I think I have higher standards now for what’s possible and that gives me hope 😌

CJ The X

this is so sweet. I do understand, I really hope it is understood, Encanto is fine. I understand what is supposed to be about pressure and generational pressure and such. But it's supposed to be provocative to any actual value to art. Encanto be damned, I'd hope more properties have more people with explanations and long proofs as to why a thing is good.

Maya!

I watched your video actually before seeing Encanto, and I think it was an interesting experience coming into it with a low expectation and then being pleasantly surprised haha - I don't think your review was necessarily too harsh but it really lowered my expectations enough to actually enjoy the movie - I think that a lot of disney movies follow a very rigid storytelling format, and so the way that they tried to fit generational trauma into said format was actually not too badly done! (Except for the time for dinner line - i will admit i did cringe at that one ^^')

I picked up “On Being Awesome” because of this video and I’m really enjoying it so far! Riggle’s idea on the formation of copeople reminded me of Martin Buber’s idea of I-Thou and I-it relationships (although I’m not entirely familiar with his work - Zadie Smith wrote an essay comparing Buber to Justin Bieber so that’s where I heard about that). Looking forward to whatever comes next!
