Phoenix is a student who emailed me requesting an interview for a school project. His subject was the relationship between science and art, and he was perfectly polite, so I said yes.

He was noticeably nervous throughout the conversation, admitting quickly that he felt underprepared and had never executed an interview before, but he took his time to be deliberate, and his questions were excellent, and I feel like I articulated myself really well here.

I asked him if I could share it with my Patrons and he said yes.

A University Student Interviews Me

Phoenix is a student who emailed me requesting an interview for a school project. His thesis was about the relationship between science and art. He was noticeably nervous throughout the conversation but ultimately executed the best interview I’ve ever experienced. I asked him if I could share it with my Patrons and he said yes.

One comment: nothing is more overrated in art than authenticity. Authenticity may exist somewhwere in the beyondness of it all, but art is a fabricated experience which is at it best when it stops pretending to represent reality. The best argument is probably in that Adorno paper on Kafka, but this is more fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orNpH6iyokI&ab_channel=misanthropicsob

Kind of random, but I’m a new graduate assistant teaching freshman composition. I actually taught your Objectively Bad Art video in class today, as we’ve been talking about researched arguments and they’re working on the preliminary aspects of writing their own. My students picked out your big brain examples of the rhetorical situation we’ve talked about in class, and we also sat with the ending for a bit where you talked about your research process. They seemed to get a lot out of it. One of the few classes I’m not cringing about, because I’ve defo been struggling with it. Anyway, just thought it’d be nice to know!
