[DM] Chapter 1: In Debt to the Mob (Patreon)

I had a lot of fun writing a certain someone in this chapter, which is part of why it's out so soon after the prologue. Despite it having been over a decade since I last watched any Pokemon, that certain someone's voice actor from the OG series was so distinct that I could still imagine his voice clearly.

So! Things start off...pretty badly for Danny. It might be tempting to think this story is going to be a downer forever, but that's not my intention. The themes of this story are going to be about healing, connection, and the resilience of hope. Danny has to start at rock bottom so that the journey to the top feels earned.

Hopefully, this chapter clears up some of what happened at the end of the prologue. The exact details are still a plot point for later, but this chapter should give you a better idea of some of the finer aspects of it.

I mean, Team Rocket only want Money, power and more money… usually. (If their motto has any truth to it, the definitely are invested in keeping the world safe. Even if it’s only because it’s where they keep all their stuff.) Plus, given how Team Rocket doesn’t have a presence in Sinnoh, the amount of influence he would have once Danny is over there drastically decreases.

... Since I want any bets I'm making down on the record and this is the latest chapter as of when I'm making this: Danny was, somehow, transported to Earth as a young child. Assuming he had any memories of the Pokemon world he would've dismissed them as conflation with the similar games that he plays. The Sylveon was around during the portion of his youth on the Pokemon side of things. I'm somewhat less confident in this last part, but still: I figure that the Sylveon was an Eevee during his childhood, and I'd even say until quite recently, as I figure that the part about being whatever Danny needs is related to an evolution. I would also guess that you've got the evolutions as more impactful than the games did, or at least as far as I recall and I can tell at a glance on bulbapedia... I also kinda doubt that that part's an AU, as I vaguely recall watching some Pokemon shows and kinda get a vibe from that memory that the evolutions had a bit more impact than that.

(On that last, little bit that isn't really about predicting the fic - at the very least, things are *weirder* in the Pokemon shows than the main games - I say main as I have doubts about peaking the weirdness of Pokemon Dungeon's plot, that bit about humans becoming Pokemon came from there after all.) (Edit: and I meant to say that their weirder because I recall Zekrom getting Pikachu ill, and, like, all the legendary Pokemon are just... so much more legendary, ya know?)
