I was so shocked and sad that Mystique died. Rest in peace, Mystique. 😒 Mystique was in the original X-Men movies set in the 2000s, but after the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past, the timeline is altered. The film effectively creates a split timeline, where the events of Dark Phoenix take place in a separate continuity. In this new timeline, Mystique is killed by Jean's uncontrollable powers in 1992, meaning she never lives to appear in the 2000s events in this version of history. The Mystique from the original films would still exist in the original timeline, but Dark Phoenix shows a different outcome. During the house scene when Jean visits to see her dad and when Jean says, "It's not me, it's them," she's referring to the X-Men on the X-Jet which caused the house shake. The shaking house and rattling picture frames weren't caused by her powers, but by the jet landing, which led her dad to mistakenly think she was using telekinesis. In the bar scene, Jean uses her powers to make everyone see her as an old man. She's projecting a telepathic illusion that overrides people's senses, making them perceive her as someone else. The aliens are the D'Bari, a shape-shifting extraterrestrials led by Vuk (played by Jessica Chastain). Their home planet was destroyed by the Phoenix Force, prompting them to hunt down the power to rebuild their world and seek revenge on the Phoenix. At the end, Jean transformed into a pure energy, cosmic phoenix entity. She merges with the Phoenix Force and ascends, transcending humanity and surviving in space as a celestial being.
