KILL!!!!!!!!

Demon in the Dark

I can't quite tell if she's upset she let herself get carried away, or if she's contemplating regicide... oh boy

Kiera-Ann Kelly

my girl normally looks stoic but this particular look is SO unnerving : (

gf help im thinking abt treason again

Givemeyourmilk

I so agree. Im leaning towards the former- like she just realized how close she came to striking Trout. Realizing, with horror how EASY it was to let slip. Her face is /haunting/

kogitosk

She's soo close to snapping isn't she

Bluesettes

Sturgeon was willing to kill her father to save the Daisys... She loves Trout but how much further is she willing to go?

Givemeyourmilk

Taking away her eyebrows for a page is really doing a lot for the atmosphere. She looks truly unravelled. There is nothing on her face, while there's everything going on in her head

Arewco

Oh…she realizes what needs to be done

People talk about treason, but can't she be thinking about how all that is going on is in a way a consequence of her doing. Because of her attempt to show everyone that Family cats can be traitors and murderers, too, Trout nearly died and got her paranoia, leading to them hiding the truth about Kill and Tusk's execution. I find this part of the plot very interesting. Sturgeon has every reason to be angry with Trout, but she will forever be bound to what she's done and hidden from Trout. Imagine her reaction to the truth.

i’m wondering if she’s actually horrified by how close she was to hurting trout. she was reaching to her with her claws out and she might have ended up drawing blood if skua hadn’t stepped in. she might be realising how easy it would have been too.

TFW you realize the next right thing to do is the very thing she’s worked her whole life against, albeit unsuccessfully. Dark mode timeline though where the twist is that Sturgeon decides here that maybe trying to do the right thing really is destined for failure (since both Trout and Hake have had their lives ruined because of Sturgeon’s secrets) and SHE becomes the next Thresher after all. (This isn’t a critique I am DEVOURING this meal of McHurtNuggets)

Between this and Jumalanpelko the concern of what my miserable cat women are thinking is quite intense lol. I like how Sturg's portrayal of being lost in her mind is so different than Trout's. Hers isn't bright or loud and painting things in a different, painfully wrong light. Hers is just dark, like a void about to consume her whole. What are you thinking about, girlie?

Demon in the Dark

Coming back to this, I think there's also an option that she's feeling guilty. She didn't plan nor want for Trout to get hurt, but she also didn't make sure she wouldn't be, and ultimately it's her poorly thought out plan going wrong that had sent Trout spiraling and coming to an awful decision. If Sturgeon left it as is and didn't try to put up a performance to speed up the integration process OR had planned it better, we wouldn't be where we are right now...  I mean, we also wouldn't be here if Trout had a backbone, but-

Demon in the Dark

To be fair, she despised Thresher from the start and hardly had any familial feelings for him, while she spent a long time shielding Hake and Trout from his influence and all... That being said, I'm still not sure if she's gonna be willing to kill Trout over this or not. Who knows...

Love the way you've portrayed Sturgeon's dark, spiraling thoughts. The growing darkness is a such a contrast from the neon/otherworldly hell from when Trout is in her bad place. She came that close to losing control of herself and striking Trout, something she wouldn't have been able to take back. As much as Skua enabling Trout's worst tendencies are, I'm really glad he was there to stop Sturgeon. Yes, it was for his queen, but he saved her sister from doing something she would have regretted (you know in addition to the entire assassination plot). Maybe Tansy can help calm Sturgeon down with a talk. She definitely needs a cool head before she does any more planning or makes a rash decision.

Honestly, I wonder if this comic is going to eventually end with Sturgeon doing the exact same thing as Petrel - deliberately attempting to assassinate Trout with her own paws. It would be a tragic evolution of her character, especially compared to her desperate attempts to protect her little siblings when she was still just a kid herself.
