Operation Fidelio. Finale (Patreon)

Well, it is done! The final 15 pictures of the series that the. Turned into 20 that then turned into 30 and you know how it goes.
Yoohoo!
So I’ve finally finished my first full length Whisperers adventure. How you could have noticed the process of making this was more chaotic than with the Worn Down Children’s closing time comic and that makes sense considering that both those groups are basically the two guys on the bus meme respectively. (I should draw that)
The band goes shopping and the whisperers have to kill vampires.
Though I like to think it's more like the band makes casual things like going for groceries a whole adventure while for the whisperers, extraordinary things like hunting ghosts and dragons are more of a casual occurrence. Hard work but by the end of the day they do some small talk while walking back home.
Speaking of which. Might be the only scene I might expand on later because I feel it's missing at least one more panel.
I don't think of Veronica as a cold person but she's reserved. She can show them, but you never get to see her actually talking about her emotions. But I like that Ignacio can actually get her to do so a bit because, while he's not too much of a softie, he is in fact the heart of the group. And another thing that I like that has been settled now is that Vero is so the muscle.
And they did pretty good for their first mission without the brain of the group.
Also, I like to think of the Doll as the wild card and Ian as a guy they all like to have around.
Anyway, here we are! Finally back at the beginning. The funny thing about this whole thing is that I actually began already written into a corner already from the beginning lmao.
We finally got to the genesis of this whole thing. The first picture I made and the one I would have posted even if I hadn't decided to make the rest of the series.
The one where Vero and Ignacio are trapped in a closet sharpening a broom stick while a vampire tears the door down.
Of course some changes were made on the original to fit the continuity of the story so far. From changes on the designs to some more minor details.
This is actually the original picture:
This is also the first picture where we get to see Arséne's full vampire design.
Last week, I think, I posted one last minute picture to the series last week that said something like, “The music kept playing loud” and that one felt silly at the moment because it almost seemed like I was just trying to have a James Gunn moment and have a cool song playing during a fight but how about this! There was a storytelling reason for that! Lmao.
I don't wanna over explain but basically that was a bit of the point of the party setting. And also having the vampire being a rat so that over time he's becoming more bat-like as he becomes blind and depends more on his ears.
With the black and white pictures I make an attempt to give the visual impression of silence compared with the loud music, dark and colourful rest of the series.
It also was fun to try to translate that feeling to the full color fight picture. Having before only seen this setting with the party lights. The white leds do give a different flavor for the final fight.
One thing I've been wanting to draw for months was Vero having her Brock Samson moment. Basically defeating the last vampire with aura alone.
One thing that is kind of late to fix is that I wish Max had interacted a bit more with Vero. Not only because it would sell better the idea that it was actually Max who decided Vero should join the vampires. But because I actually like the idea of them hitting it off. They could have been friends.
That would not be the reason for Veronica to let them go though. I mean, there's a bit of that but it was more of a “If this one hundred yards stare doesn't work I'm toasted” kind of deal for Veronica. It is clear that Max didn't figure it out but Veronica by that moment was pretty much done. Had they actually fought I think Vero was probably a goner.
But well, it had been tough for Max too. They had seen all of her friends go down one by one against these two randos. As far as they knew Vero could very well be just another monster.
That's actually a detail I'm kind of proud off but I don't wanna ruin it by mention it if you didn't notice but here it is:
There's a specific brush I've been using to do the line art for the vampires in their “blood lust forms” in contrast to basically everything else. And I used it to draw Veronica on those panels. As if Vero had just become her predator species in their mind.
I've mentioned they are my favorite a couple of times so of course they are the one who got to run away. Giving me the chance to draw them again. Maybe… who knows…
…
Nicole and Ian arrived a bit too late for the fight but right in time to pick Vero and Iggy and take them home. Unfortunately she couldn’t take Iggy to the hospital immediately but the good thing is that Nicole has some contacts who could help him out. Are you familiar with the abominable sciences? Either that or she took both to the healing wax pools from the movie Wanted. lol
Speaking of. Yeah Vero and Iggy are now wanted people by the cops but don’t worry that will get fixed eventually. There was a part of the epilogue that explained it but it did feel too lore-dumpy so in the end I decided to cut it and leave it for another day.
For now lets just say that it involves “Top Men”
I do feel a bit sorry for the Doll. She almost didn't get to do much in this adventure and look how excited she was. I really like the idea that she has gotten more accessories of the Doll bread that she's possessing. Apparently they made a van Helsing Doll lmao.
I did have some things planned for her this October. Yet still, I had to postpone that for later though. I wasn't originally planning to do this whole thing the way that it came out lol.
I made the text cards already so I'm not gonna put the whole story again here to not make the text too long. The original document where I wrote it was 8 pages long.
And that's pretty much it on the big Vero and Iggy adventure!
I have already decided that the next big project for the whisperers will be finally the expansion of the cult film plot. It won't be as long as this though (I hope) luckily for me that story is pretty much written already. I'm just planning on doing some illustrations of some key parts. Besides the ones already made.
But first, I guess it's time for a wonderful Christmas time…
It's also time for me to do my yearly post about my dislike for that song. It's so weird! I don't really hate it but it feels so unfinished! Especially for Paul McCartney!
Merry November!!
