I completely agree. When I was younger I cheated on someone and it was soooo complicated and such a gray area. I’m not proud of it, but I also no longer shame myself about it because it truly was something I had to do to get my needs met in that moment (well before I sought therapy and realized codependency was a thing lmao).

What did we do to deserve this? ??? This amount of content is seriously like Christmas. And while things Ariana does just aren’t cool, she seems to be someone with her own issues. We know nothing. But people LOVEEEE to pile on a woman. So i couldn’t agree with you more. I think some of the album content is rubbing people the wrong way , but i just think that means Ariana is kind of an asshole lol. But it’s not about Ariana, it’s about the public’s insatiable need to tear down women. The intensity with which female public figures are attacked for silly things unfortunately is nothing new

Do I agree with what happened with that whole situation? No. Yet here I am still streaming eternal sunshine. Like yes what happened was not okay and Ariana needs to address this pattern privately with herself but like the public needs to move on I legit don’t care anymore. It’s old at this point.

I think for me I just feel gross listening to her right now. 'Break up with your..." was one thing but the continued cheating rumors that seem to follow her around, the fact that she is profiting from the situation, etc etc is just a little much for me. Not that she should be exiled from the industry but I just can't get on board with her new album.

YUP!!!!!!!! the moral grandstanding especially on tiktok about this has been sooooooo weird to see. infidelity can be a non-negotiable in your own relationship but am i supposed to… not consume art by people who screw up in their personal lives sometimes? bc that excludes like. a lot of people!!!! the discourse around xyz being “good” or “bad” (people included) exhausts me. rarely is anything black and white like that. ariana was maybe involved in the dissolution of a marriage but ffs she didn’t kill a man! and if people wanna drag her thru the mud so bad, they should really be dragging ethan right alongside her to be fair.

Totally agree. I hate how she’s labeled the home wrecker when HE was the one that actually chose to leave and “wreck” his family. You can’t force someone to leave. Ethan made that choice himself and he’s not getting anything for it. He’s just a meme while Ariana’s the worst person to ever live

Maybe it's because the sponge 🧽 isn't that famous but I just don't see anyone coming for the guy who literally did the cheating! Sure, knowingly getting with someone who is married with an infant is not a great thing to do, but ultimately he's the one who had any commitment to uphold that home. The amount of times I just crowed SAY THAT! 🔥 in my car tho. Maybe too serious here, but I think a looooot about how in America we are still Puritanical at our nasty lil roots, and the amount of "moral grandstanding" that occurs here is truly bananas. Well.. she does posit herself as a feminist! her feminism is much like Taylor’s feminism. convenient, marketable and, often, empty. However, feminists are imperfect and messy. Because feminists are humans. Feminists can grow and they can also colossally fuck up. If we’re out here expecting all feminists to be perfect, the movement is going to be derailed, which is what the powers that be intend. We can recognize her actions as sketchy—or whatever—without burning her at the stake. There should be a way to do this, but people are so black and white. I agree It’s so weird how people have reacted. Unhinged behavior on both sides, the rabid detractors and the delusional Stans who’ll justify anything. Nuance has become very unpopular. It’s horrifying!

As someone who has been the other woman, I will tell you that the emotion you go through being more complicated than you can even imagine is… more likely than you think. The discourse around Ariana has been really disheartening for me, feeling like I’m doomed for the rest of my life because I was a horribly messy human being once. Very glad you shared this, very glad to know that there are still people who accept that humans are complicated and can grow past their mistakes.

It's interesting the different sides of the internet we are on. Of course when all the drama came about she was getting a lot of hate, but once the album dropped I was actually surprised how quick the hate went away and it was all praise to her. No judgment on if you should or shouldn't just relaying what I noticed.

couldnt agree more!! i think the moral posturing and purity culture and expecting PERFECTION from our public figures and that mindset of cancel culture definitely comes from many places and things but one being deep anxiety. the most anxious, socially inept people i know are the ones participating. you are absolutely right about being far removed from real life and what people actually think
