I kind of take Midnight Rain to have undercurrent of slight mockery. There's a sort of dramatic way of painting one person as sunshine and one as midnight rain. It's over the top. When she says "i broke his heart cause he was nice" it conjures for me personally a way of painting herself as the bad guy in some way. It makes me feel she's trying to say "she was SOOO awful to break the heart of such a NICE GUY". idk but that's the energy I get from it. the song is camp but also dead serious and taylor is really good at writing like that.

Love this episode! I was wondering what y’all’s thoughts are on the number 20 in her Joe-coded songs—I noticed it started showing up in a couple times in the Joe era and then it disappeared by the time evermore came around. We know our girl loves numerology but also I could be wearing my tinfoil hat rn lol. Back in 2019-mid 2020 i had a mild suspicion that maybe they were planning on locking it down in 2020 but that obviously ended up not happening

Is it at all possible that Labyrinth isn’t about the events of 2016 and Joe “saving” her from that despair? Relistening to it, I’m almost getting that it may be about Taylor and Joe’s rough patches and mini-break ups/breaks. Like her going through processing the hurt of a break up, but then “Oh no, I’m falling in love again” (with Joe) “I thought the plane was going down. How’d you turn it right around?” Like maybe she thought the relationship was over and he kept continuously winning her back over?

Yes this has been something I’ve noticed the past few years! - have I known you 20 seconds, or 20 years - been sleeping so long in a 20 year dark night - 20 questions, we tell the truth - once in 20 lifetimes - roaring 20’s (yes I know could be referencing prohibition era type “shenanigans” OR could be a symbol for her and joes relationship in their 20’s when they first got together) Idk but it’s interesting! There might be more that I can’t think of atm But yea, very interesting
