I literally remember when he got it 😭🥺 I feel very sentimental and nostalgic for 2012/2013 Ed Sheeran. It often feels like he was replaced by a fucking pod person sometime around 2016, which is when everything started going to shit in general, so I think aliens came in and switched him out with an alien who they made to look just like him. Sort of like the Avril Lavigne theory, that she got replaced after Let Go. His debut record and even the one after it (…X? I think) were pretty decent. Every thing after that to me is SHITE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry to any Ed stans. All that said I have a soft spot for him because of the Red era. I also love his friendship with Taylor.

But he is definitely a pod person. Period. Thanks!!

He and Taylor have the cutest relationship.. agreed X was the last great cohesive album he’s put out

Chase

The x album was actually so good and then everything went downhill

Lea G

+ is such a good album that I bought the CD for it. Just back to back hits

Joey

I’m an Ed stan but I kinda agree. He just got so chart obsessed I feel like. I’m excited for his new album though because the main producer is Aaron Dessner and the 2 singles that have been put out are promising

He’s too talented to be putting out the absolute SHITE he’s been putting out in recent years

Jordyn

Seeing new gen swifties on the feed is an alien experience in its own right

Kyle Labe

having Run on Red TV reminded me of his potential but then he decided to drop Joker and the Queen and I was like well there goes that

100% agree and when i saw him get that i knew when i was older i wanted the same one

I find it's very interesting that commercially speaking, he's one of the most successful artists of the past decade but his impact on the cultural zeitgeist is not that big. There is definitely a way to make hits without losing artistic visions and I think there are a few artists that have managed to find that formula. This is probably why the likes of Taylor and Beyoncé have had long careers without losing relevancy and possess huge influence on current pop culture, but someone like Ed Sheeran could never be a cultural icon like them. He's one of the best examples showing that to leave a lasting legacy in the industry and still be remembered long after retiring, you can't just pump out soulless hits to top the charts.

i remember this too!!!! on the red tour i remember being nearly just as excited for Ed as i was Taylor. like literally at the show i was dressed in all red for Taylor and my friend dressed in all orange for Ed, we gave THAT much of a shit! i was ready to stan for years to come! but no… the music he’s put out since + has been so baffling. alien theory is the only way i can make sense of it.

no this is so real. his first album has such a special place in my heart it’s genuinely so fucking good and rewired my brain in 2012/13, and his and taylor’s friendship was so sweet and NOW ? why is he like that . why does bad habits exist. disappointing

everything that account tweets makes me feel really old tbh!! i remember this so vividly and at the time they were literally one of my favourite friendships ever

Leslie

No Taylor breakup has ever upset me that much but if there was ever a Taylor and Ed friend breakup I would go into mourning. I love their friendship so much.

The thing about Ed is that I absolutely hate music snobbery, and I don’t think that music has to be stripped down / confessional etc to be great music. I love me a bop! I love to shake ass! Sell me the dream! But the shit that man is churning out … it is soulless in the saddest way possible. It is dead behind the eyes. And he doesn’t even look like he is having fun doing it. I think it says a lot that listening to shite like Bad Habits is a more depressing listening experience than The A Team at this point.

Gosh these new late-to-the-party stans make me feel ancient (absolutely no hate to anyone on the Patreon who is one, 10 years have just flown by)

I remember back in 2012 I visited my best friend in Scotland, where she was on an exchange program for uni. Her alarm clock was set to his first album and I had never heard of him before, but fell in love with his voice softly waking me up in the morning. Loved his rise to fame but stopped listening to him after the fame hit lol. They are such cute friends tho 😍

hannah

mannnn i miss early days ed sheeran too! when he sang "they say i'm up and coming like i'm fucking in an elevator" ???? people died.

+ was a great album at the time but god he really became a cyborg version of himself once he got a taste of success

Michaela Wagner

It’s crazy to think that if he didn’t collab w Taylor in 2012 he’d still probably just be like a big English celeb and not the worldwide one. Not saying that everything has changed performed the most BUT a Taylor Swift association can do so much for someone’s career Would be interesting to know what his trajectory would have been otherwise. To be fair to him… Elton John was like “I luv ur music!!!!!” But I LOVED + so I lost my mind when they started hanging out

Carla

I do miss old ed but I cannot help but SIDE EYE about the rumor that ed used his friendship with taylor to hook up with victoria secret models during her cyborg era and might've hooked up with selena?? I don't remember if any of that was confirmed or just rumors but it feels CORRECT. that is just my onion !

“if we have a falling out i can just scratch of the R and it will be ED. we won’t have a falling out though”

Lauren Eileen ✨🥀

Agreed about Ed, I really feel like he sold out. I loved his indie vibe in the beginning but it’s so clear he became money hungry. He always said he preferred performing in small venues in the beginning too 🙄
