Like it's been a long journey....but the processing has finally fucking begun and I can finally react to this.

First of all, she's bonkers. Like. We need a welfare check. Because as you all know, I, and not only ME, but many many OG swifties said uh, yeah, she refused to sing Dear John as a surprise song for years after the Speak Now tour because it's too painful to her anymore, so no fucking way is she going to bust out WCS as a fucking surprise song. And like, I would've bet money on her never playing that song. I would've BET SO MUCH MONEY...and I would've lost it all!!!!!!!!!!!!

Second of all, we know that it's Aaron's fav Taylor song they've worked on together because he's said that multiple times. But it's hard for me to imagine HE would be like hey Taylor let's play WCS, because he likely knows how difficult it would be for her to sing. So I don't think he personally brought it up, I definitely think SHE was the one who was like, let's play Would've Could've Should've. I could also tell they practiced, just from how good the performance was.

Third of all....we have to look at the implications of her choosing to play this song a mere 48 hours after telling us that Speak Now TV is incoming. Like we have to gaze upon those implications. I don't think that Taylor sits down and thinks to herself, "ha ha, these re-records are really going to kill Jake, John, Joe, etc." Like I genuinely think that's not one of her priorities when creating the re-records, even though we meme it to death lmfao. But now that's too big of a coincidence to overlook. I think that years have gone by and she's processed it, analyzed it, gotten angry over it, and I do think that she is a human being, and does have little petty/vindictive streak in her. If there is one person who she wants to have their head on a pike, I would imagine it would be him. Back then, when she put out Speak Now and Dear John, she had to know that she was going up against a mammoth in the industry, and a MAN no less. And it was like nobody cared. Looking back on it, that's how it feels. Nobody fucking cared that he dated her when she was so young, and messed with her, too.

Now, I think she knows that people care. And she wants his ass cooked. And I am LIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder if she’s going to have any other songs about the John mayor situation in the vault tracks? Or taylor-squared

Ciara

What did she pair with WCS? Was it mine? If so, an extra layer of insanity to all this!!!

RiskBat

It really does feel like she's been waiting for the right moment to come for him again. I wonder how much the response to Red TV and ATW has shaped her plans for Speak Now TV.

I just can’t get over the Tay-voodoo of “drop everything now” (announcing SPTV) on Nashville night 1 and ending with “meet me in the pouring rain” (complete downpour rain show) on night 3. Mother Nature even knows what’s up. Playing WCS was the insane cherry on top.

Listen. I’ll never get over that I was there to hear it live. For the first time. Still shook. 😭

Well, we know the Swifties like nothing better than a harassment campaign, and they do this without directions. So if they are getting an order from their queen ... John Mayer, call the Witness Protection Program and see if they could accommodate your ass for the next year or so (or however long until the campaign can be directed at somebody else)

Lance

Perfectly said, I was so shocked when it happened too. I never expected to hear "give me back my girlhood it was mine first." FUCKING LIVE. Mind blowing.

What jake went through is going to be nothing compared!!

There’s definitely John songs in that vault. Taylor is so broken in the lyrics of Dear John, and the lyrics are so perfect for the song, that she 100% wrote some songs that got the cutting room floor because they were second to DJ in quality, similar to how Better Man was cut for ATW on Red. Plus, if you think John inspired three songs directly on SN (DJ, Ours and TSOU), there’s definitely more songs inspired by him, whether they be epic breakup ballads or not.

One of the reasons I don't trust Enty of crazydaysandnight gossip site is because he claims Dear John is about Martin Johnson, whom Taylor may have dated in 2008 or 2009. Dear John is DEFINITELY about John Mayer due to Taylor's sneering Red-era interview response to John saying in the June 2012 issue of Rolling Stone that the song "really humiliated" him. Taylor would not have responded to John's words with such repulsed contempt if the song was not about John Mayer.

When I was 19 I had a relationship with a 30 year old man and he treated me like garbage. This happens to a lot of young women. This isn't about Taylor and John, this is about men preying on young women in general. Men use young women and throw them away like nothing and don't think twice about it. History is full of men impregnating young women and letting the women fall into poverty or prostitution and social ruin. It is a very sad part of humanity. Thank GOD women have control over their own bodies and that women are standing up for themselves now. Art is the most powerful way of expressing these types of things. Taylor really is standing up for ALL women in this. Taylor survived this, but the truth is that a lot of women are destroyed by these types of relationships.

honestly out of all the people shes tried to burn (or bury if you will), unconsciously or not, he's the most deserving. Youre so in right in the fact that back in 2009/2010 nobody seemed to care. It seems like it was treated as just juicy celebrity gossip vs something incredibly inappropriate and harmful towards a young girl (and to young women everywhere). Nowadays people are more quick to question an inappropriate relationship/age gap, but back then people just treated it as saucy. Which is awful because Dear John has only gotten more and more truthful and incredible over the years. Im ready for the takedown, idc how much john mayer has changed-- he seriously said/did a bunch questionable shit as a grown ass man i dont care about his growth he has never had to suffer the consequences of his actions career-wise

Madeline ate with this

blake

it’s time for john mayer’s noon roast

Ingunn Markiewicz

I've always wondered how much of the backstory she shares with her producers/cowriters. Like did she spill everything about WCS to Aaron? And did he already know that apparently 🫠 cardigan is about Matty?

Em

Men like him get away with too much awful behaviour. Dear John was the least he deserved and he responded to it like it was some sort of hate crime.

Taralynn

All I know is, I'm fucking ready. She's been stringing us along with Speak Now TV Easter eggs for what feels like years. And on top of that, possible JM slander from the HBIC herself is becoming more and more clear each day since the announcement. I am strapped the fuck in. I'm more excited for this than other re-recording.

Olivia Donovan

Dear John is my favorite song of all time so anything more coming out about it is what I want. These kinds of relationships need to be talked about!! I feel like they’re more coercive and deceptive and that can be so fucking damaging! Sad to have missed WCS but that crowd waited for so long they probs deserved it

emeraldgreaves

ATW10 and the jake gyllenhaal fallout is going to be sunshine and rainbows next to the speak now TV drop, and he deserves it

Ty

Apparently there’s a surprise at the end of tonight’s show

Kyle Labe

Yeah I don’t think I really realized when I was a preteen and Speak Now came out just how brave and wild it was that she, as a young woman and nowhere near the celebrity she possesses now, would go so explicitly up against a titan of the industry. Truly just insanely courageous

Olivia Claire

Dear John hit me at the time when it came out and WCS hit me even harder because I feel the same way now as Taylor does about my “John” character, and fuck me up I’m so ready for the karmic justice when Speak Now TV comes out, I’ll honestly feel vindicated through it lol Also, she does have Scorpio in her top 3 in terms of astrology and it definitely explains her “Scorpio stings when fighting back” edge that she’s got, and her streak of pettiness when it comes to her (of her perception of) being wronged. Gagged for WCS and I’ll be gagging even harder for Dear John TV

Starbuck1234!

One of her best songs she’s written. I’m still stuck on her continuing to ruin cardigan by singing it to Matty, a song about a love that came back to her, and This Love to him, a song about a love that came back to her. Do we think she has been low-key pining for him for a decade? And broke up with Joe for Matty when they worked on a song for Midnights?

Megan Delynn

One of the most savage and gut wrenching lyrics that no one is talking about in WCS is "Stained glass windows in my mind/I regret you all the time"! When John was damaging her, he lived in a house that was once a church and it had stained glass windows...also the now removed video from the song they did together had some visuals of stained glass windows as well! Think of how much that had to have traumatized her to remember it like that now!
