The interesting thing about merch now is that we've kinda lived through the merch era in general (for any artist/act/thing): Being a quirky Wattpad messy bun girl with a band tee and skinny jeans is out, so our view on that style has completely changed. If I saw a shirt today that was bright red and had midnights cover art on it a la that speak now t-shirt that Zack has, it would not hit the same. It's 100% nostalgia unfortunately:/ not to say that the merch designs now cannot be improved, but rather that doing them how they used to be is definitely not the way to go

I think the Martin Johnson thing came about because Ashley Tisdale mentioned it in a podcast interview. She specifically said that she dated Martin Johnson after he dated Taylor Swift and that their (him and Taylor) relationship was kept on the downlow. Now, those TikTok Swifties saying Speak Now is about him...mental illness. I don't know if I believe Ashley's accounts since based on canon lore, he was never mentioned romantically, but that tidbit is now out there.
