i'm getting the feeling that 1) all the songs on folklore (except for the love triangle ones) are, in fact, autobiographic, but that she wanted to spare joe in not exposing him/their relationship and therefore literally called the album "folklore" as in "do not interprete this as being taken from my real life". having him co-write some of the songs was a strategic means to not have anyone suspect that something is/was wrong. no-one will think that songs like "tolerate it" are about him if he's a collaborator. i kind of feel like she went the i-write-about-other-people-now-route because of him, not because it was something she came up with herself or would've done if joe had not been such a private person. 2) TTPD will be the exact opposite: the name obviously alludes to the whatsapp group joe was/is in. the song titles are very telling as well ("so long, london"). i can even see the design of the album to be directed at him. he seems to be someone who reads poetry and enjoys "academic"/high quality literature, maybe giving her the feeling that her art is not artful enough/that her songs are not "poetry". the packaging and design could mean "here's one of the classy-looking poetry books you like". if that's true than it will be the slay of the century!

well, if folklevermore is the way it is because joe did not "allow" her to write autobiographically and taylor agreed to him to accommodate him, then that kind of is giving up her voice, i think. even though she still did other things and did not let him stop her in all of her artistic endeavors, doesn't mean that it didn't feel like giving up her voice. just like the cancellation may have felt more severe to her than it objectively was.

Everyone always thinks Ariel gave up her voice for a man where’s the feminism blah blah blah. But she gave up so much more than that. Every comfort she’d ever known, she gave up completely in an instant. Also Ariel had a big family and she was clearly her father’s favorite. Taylor gave up her family and all her connections, everything she had precious to her here in the states to run away with Joe. I’m speaking purely from an emotional perspective. Could she buy an entire new home in Britain? Why yes of course. But all her personal treasures in her American houses, her friends and family connections or being able to see any of them whenever she wanted. She gave that all up. She chose to become “a fish out of water”, a stranger in a foreign land. She chose to be an entire world away from everything precious to her for a man, her prince. If But Daddy I Love Him has anything to do with The Little Mermaid, I hope it speaks to this kind of topic.
