Here is my full reaction to The Count of Monte Cristo! (2002)

This might just be the greatest revenge story I’ve ever seen. Richard Harris steals the show and adds a lightness to a very grim story that was desperately needed. Even though the story is quite unsettling at times, with how many hardships Edmund Dantes endures, his story is ultimately a fairytale. This is an absolute 10 out of 10 film!

This movie is based of of Alexander Dumas' work and I'm so thrilled that I saw this film after watching The Three Musketeers and The Man In The Iron Mask. The previous two films were a bit tonally all over the place, in my opinion. This film nails the tone and does a brilliant job of portraying the pain Edmund experiences and also his desire for peace. Although, this movie also lacks French accents! 😂I started listening to the audiobook and it’s been incredible diving deeper into the story. I’m planning a trip to Barnes & Noble to pick up a physical copy so I can follow along while listening. I’ve heard that reading and listening to the audio book at the same time is the best way to fully absorb a book, and this feels like the perfect story to try that with.

One of the greatest literary works of all time. I have yet to dive into it, but I have it in audiobook form to listen to at work whenever I can. Also, if you can, check your messages. I sent you a trailer for The Sheep Detectives starring Hugh Jackman. Would be awesome to see you react to it. It looks like it’s gonna be a lot of fun.

Audible has a feature where if you have the audiobook and the kindle ebook, the words will highlight as you listen. It's the best way to read in my opinion. You can also switch between listening and reading without losing your place. Sometimes I will listen to a book while driving and then pick up where I left off in the ebook when I get home. And Jax, you have to finally react to Gladiator for more Richard Harris brilliance!

Yesss! You can bet as soon as I have a second time here this afternoon I’m going to watch this whole thing and be super excited right there with you!!! just from reading your comments I’m so super glad you enjoyed it so much! ❤️❤️

This was amazing!!! You are right listening to audio while reading is the greatest way to know and understand any book. This first time reaction was just great. Especially with Mrs. Jax, I loved and enjoyed this so much. Please tell me there's more Alexander Duma's stories as films. I'm so glad you had a great time watching it very much as i did. Loved this reaction with Jax

It truly is one of the best revenge stories ever.

Thanks Jax! Unquestionably a literary great. Of course, the magic of a well done film makes the works far more digestible for many people. The written story can get slightly dense between the cultural changes since originally published along with some challenges that may occur in translation between languages. It would be fun to hear how you enjoy the novel.

A fun tidbit to notice is that Michael Wincott, who plays the warden at Chateau d'If, was also in the version of "The Three Musketeers" that Jax just watched; he played Rochefort, the one-eyed captain of Cardinal Richelieu's guard, the one dressed in black. And if it's any consolation, as gruesome as it's depicted in the movie, in the book, Dantes is not whipped during his imprisonment. The film is a bit more loosely faithful to the book than other adaptations; there are a number of subplots that were deleted. And if you're interested in reacting to it, the "Monte Cristo" story in general (not any of the film versions specifically) was the loose inspiration for the television drama "Revenge." And, yes, Napoleon's supporters were called Bonapartists.

Never seen this movie before, only knew of the story because of its name, but wow I loved it! I'm gonna look for the book too! I noticed too that when Edmond saw Mercedes again at the party, he said that within a month, she'd forget his name and that's so devastating because that's what he thinks she did. And a monte cristo is a sandwich! I just had one a couple weeks ago for the first time and it was delicious! Came with raspberry preserves and it really made the sandwich better!

The Dingo

the book is in my top two! Princess Bride is number one. As for Count, this (nor any) movie cannot compare!!!

AAAAaand I've just finished watching with you! I'm so happy! I just KNEW you would LOVE this one!!! <3 It genuinely is so good. I am with you: while there might be other versions of it that are more direct to literature or newer, I don't anything can compare to the casting choices of this movie. Phenomenal job by all actors involved. The score sells everything that happens as well. It's a beautiful film and I love every minute of it.

This movie is great but , as usual, the history has some softening to fit Hollywood standards. So it really worth to read the book, it's much deeper than the movie.

Once I've been in Marseille and took the opportunity to visit Chatteau d'If. It was really a prison in the past now it's only a kind of museum
