This season everyone is not acting like themselves the writers killed everyone’s character

CjXD

Sierra’s basket weaving skills from season 3 def came in handy for her in today’s episode, also if you take a closer look at the scene where Chris was watching the cameras they showed Slenderman all the way to the far left screen👀

Heather faking nice and Scott scream-running across the bridge took me OUT

OH! Also if u look closely at the beaver that Courtney threw he was giving the middle fingers😂😂

SO, please allow me to vent a little bit. In season 1, Gwen and Trent, along with Duncan and Courtney, were really cute together (yes even Courtney). There was a certain charm Courtney had in the first season that's sorely missing in the other seasons; a hard-working goody-two shoes who didn't know how to enjoy herself because of the pressure she puts on herself. Duncan was (heavy emphasis on "was") a solid partner for her because a "bad boy" character like him allowed her to unwind and be more carefree, which led to her actually enjoying herself for once (though short-lived because Harold rigged the votes against her in the episode where they finally kissed). Then comes season 2, where Trent very suddenly became paranoid about Gwen leaving him for Duncan. This is already questionable because he had never acted like this in the first season, potentially except the time in season 1 when Cody was trying to hit on Gwen. The writers only doubled down on this, making Trent obsessed with the number 9 out of nowhere, ultimately causing Gwen to dump Trent (and causing both of them to be eliminated early on). The writers DID hint on Duncan and Gwen having a thing for each other in an Aftermath episode, but at that point, was honestly still up for debate. When Courtney eventually came back, instead of the goody-two shoes leader she had been up until that point, she became this borderline psycho b-word who was nasty to anyone who got in her way; writing a 30+ page letter critiquing every flaw she didn't like about Duncan certainly did not help her be a likeable character imo. Though they did still make it clear by the end of Action that they were still a thing (especially in the Duncan ending). Then comes World Tour, where Duncan quits during the first challenge and the writers make it VERY obvious that Gwen is crushing on him. But despite this, Gwen and Courtney would actually become good friends; Gwen lost a lost of friends in Action because of how she handled the Trent situation, and Courtney didn't really have any actual friends when she became crazy in Action. (Off topic, but I really don't like how Gwen and LeShawna never interacted in World Tour. Between their solid friendship in season 1, to how LeShawna hated Duncan in season 2 for constantly bullying Harold, then Gwen hitting Harold on the head with a shovel to throw the challenge, there was a LOT that could've been explored between them in season 3.) Then Duncan returns and we all know how that went down. Imo, Gwen was a better partner for Duncan at that point because of her more lax nature and the fact she isn't psychotic. Now we get to All-Stars. Duncan is suddenly obsessed with getting Courtney's attention and Gwen is obsessed with being on good terms with Courtney again. This just completely falls flat on its face: the writers derailed Trent's character just so that could justify Gwen leaving him in favor of Duncan, only for Gwuncan to fall apart in All-Stars. Gwen originally felt very guilty about betraying Courtney in World Tour, only for her to be lowkey snarky in All-Stars every time she says, "They were over when we kissed; therefore, I didn't do anything wrong." If that's the case, WHY IS GWEN SO OBSESSED WITH BEING ON COURTNEY'S GOOD SIDE THEN?!?!? Duncan is also derailed pretty hard in this season; Courtney was getting on Duncan's last nerve in World Tour (again, the writers made Courtney a borderline psychopath post-Island) and so left her to be with the more easy-going Gwen. Now in All-stars, he SUDDENLY cares about what Courtney thinks of him again? Why not use that time to explore what Duncan thinks about Gwen guilt? That's now 1) Trent's character being derailed to justify breaking up Gwent, 2) Gwen's character being frustrating this season because of her obsession with being on good terms with Courtney while simultaneously justifying that she wasn't in the wrong for stealing Duncan since, in her words, they weren't together when she kissed him (not even true since DUNCNEY WAS STILL OFFICALLY TOGETHER WHEN THE KISS HAPPENED), and 3) Duncan being derailed from a bad boy with a soft side, to being weirdly needy for Courtney's attention. There is a fourth point, but that is a spoiler for later on in the season. I know I wrote a lot here but I really hate how much wasted potential there was with this trio. Each character feels so far removed from how they were presented back in season 1.

Mr. Squidward

Well I kinda feel like Gwen and Duncan falling apart was bound to happen given the way they get together in the first place was dishonest. I mean they both went behind Courtney’s back with it and I feel like relationships that start out like that don’t last. I do think that they could’ve written the story for them a bit better tho

Malachi

I'm not going to lie, the writers handled Gwen and Duncan horribly. Their relationship is completely centered around Courtney, and not once did we see them actually interact with each other without her being involved so the relationship didn't feel real. But both of them are in the wrong but I'm more mad towards Gwen because the writers try to victimize her but then immediately made her lash out at Duncan for obsessing over Courtney ONE time, like Gwen wasn't just doing the exact same thing since the first episode of the season?!? Yeah Duncan shouldn't be worried about his ex with his current girlfriend standing right there but Gwen is no better either and I hate how they made Duncan seem so nice to Gwen just for them to make a lazy excuse for why she wants to break up with him. I prefer Trent and Gwen since at least it felt like a real relationship that doesn't need to have a third wheel (Courtney) to function.

JimenezC

That's exactly how I feel going through this show! It feels like the writers are leaning on the toxic side of the drama for the fun of it (it makes the show hard to enjoy IMO).

JimenezC

I also prefer Trent but I guess the writers of the show thought he didn't bring enough "drama" to the show itself.

Nami

Scott said he likes to be dominated lmao its giving Reese from Malcom in the Middle. And yeah I agree I really like the evil Mike storyline this and Heather is probably why this is one of my favorite seasons. The way Gwen is acting like Courtney and her are ex-girlfriends or something. Which these creators aren't afraid to have gay characters (thinking of 6Teen)

Reixy

Slenderman was in the episode

CjXD

I thought Gwen and Leshawna not interacting with each other in World tour was odd too especially how close they were and I def agree with most of what you said ESPECIALLY with Gwen claiming that Duncan and Courtney were over yet she CLEARLY WAS AT THE FINALE EPISODE in total drama action when Duncan and Courtney literally made up, if she can remember Lighting being in last seasons Finale she shouldn’t have an excuse of not remembering seeing Duncan and Courtney making out in the total drama action finale IN PERSON(In Duncan ending atleast, Beth ending was with Courtney holding Duncan’s hand and walking away together)

My OG Patreon

I mean, the Gwen and Duncan thing wasn't originally planned. It was just something that they were requested to do by someone else / some other organization (maybe?)
