That scene where Ghira reminds Blake that her parents' love is unconditional *while "All Our Days" plays in the background* will get me tearing up every single time.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Also, that shirt is extremely cool! I have the old Rooster Teeth one with that artwork of Blake, but it doesn't have any of the text.

Suplee215

The bar for parents in media might be in hell but the Belladonnas still put in effort I wouldnt blame Ghira or Khali being a little mad that Blake stayed with the white fang after they left. A delicate "i told you so" about Adam wouldnt be out of line if handled correctly but that thought never entered their heads because Adam doesn't matter

Suplee215

The cult comparison is on par but your understanding is a tiny bit off. In my understanding the white fang wasnt cult like until after yhe parents left. And Ghira created the white fang as an advocacy group. The power struggle. that saw him leave is what turned it into a cult I think. So not exactly Jonestown with kids spying on parents. Certainly indoctrinating kids to more extreme measures. Therr just wasnt anyone to report to above Ghira

Qrow's semblance is literally having Murphy's Law as a passive skill "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong." Not everyone can take that in stride like Milo and most of the men in his family from Milo Murphy's Law.

Adrian ruiz martinez

Morgan: what's wrong with the people who write thing show? Me: they lost their friend and co-creator, they were being work 16 hours days, 6 days a week, rt had them start production while still writing... I think one of the them broke up with her girlfriend during production, oh and they are getting constantly harrased by people online that saying they are making their friend roll in his grave, so basically they are taking it out on us.

The_Fish

Now you can rewatch all of the fights that qrow has been in and catch the moments his semblance caused something unlucky to happen. Like Tyrion falling through the roof or ironwood stopping winter.

Eric Smith

His non-fight moments, too, like the bartender in v3. "Aw, gee darn it."

Jittercritter

I’m glad you went into all of that with Pyrrha’s personality because the nuance of the concept of choice and how abstract and questionable it is can honestly be pointed to as one of this shows biggest themes imo

In episode 8 when the bird shows up? That was the wrong corvid...

Legiblestew

I really do appreciate that you're one of the few reactors I've seen that really does sympathize with Whitley. Jaques is the real bad guy here. Pitting his kids against each other 😡 Great reaction as always! Cannot wait until you get to the next couple episodes! You'll learn who's footprint that was at the end soon 😀🙃

Ep 8: Ok, so meta reason that Blake slaps Sun like that is because there was actually a miscommunication between the animators and the writers. She was supposed to like hit his shoulder/arm but the instructions weren't specific or something. And that's all I'll say on this. On a lighter note, I will give props to Arryn Zech, Blake's VA, for her performance this episode. Her talk with Ghira is one of the highlights of V4 for me…. until it was cut short. Ep 9: Ilia was mentioned back in episode 5 by the Albain brothers as someone who would be "elated" that Blake was back. She is also voiced by Cherami Leigh who is one of my favorite voice actors. Anytime she shows up in a piece of media I get very excited. "She's not coming back, Tai." ....Was that about Summer or Raven, I wonder. Oh STRQ (stark) lore, how you elude me.

Symbolic Remnant

Yeah, I’d describe the White Fang as an Activist Group that started as Integrationist, became Armed Separatist, and is on its way to Revanchist Supremacism.

Suplee215

Not entirely sure what those terms made (especially the last) but I always viewed it as Ghira is early Processor X, the leader who took over was Magneto in his more interesting years and Adam is a mutant supremist/cult leader/incel.

Moonas

Qrow's bad luck is the reason why he said "don't come close" when he was fighting Tyrian and that's why Ruby was almost crushed.

Zirkumflex

One thing that I like in RWBY happens int the first episode here: Silent storytelling. We have already seen Jaques' office, but now we have the contrast with Ghira's. It wide and well lit, warm. Behind the desk there is a picture of the place he is in charge of, while Jaques has a picture of himself. This contrast informs us of the contrast between these two men in addition to what we are told.

Donovan "Ravenhull"

Go back and watch the Tyrion fight, Qrow taking advantage of his luck aura. But Ruby got too close, and she was almost hit by the falling beam.

Faroth

even his starting scene at the Crowbar bar, when the bartender accidentally broke a glass, bad luck

Faroth

The thing with Qrow Semblance is that it has always been there Remember the Bar scene when he was watching the fights at the tournament? the moment he step up, the bartender broke a glass... "bad luck" He gives bad luck all around, he learned to use it on his advantage on a fight, but he cannot control it, so he cant risk having allies around Fun part, this is why punching people is more accurate to hit than his weapon, because is directly him, the enemy would have even more bad luck avoiding those than avoiding or blocking his weapon, but he prefers his weapon because he can have bad luck and break his bones too I like that the writers said Monty based this on a trait from the original fallout games: Jinxed in those games, is like playing dnd, a "hidden" d20 is rolled on each action and attack to determine stuff in percentage (5% each side) but if you rolled a nat 1, is a critical failure, a fumble, and something bad happened to the character, depending of the action or weapon used. But the Jinxed trait changes that, instead of the fumble table activating on nat 1 only, each creature around (aka on the map) is now under the effect of the uneven bad luck. Whenever a creature "misses" at their attack or the action fails, if the number rolled is uneven, is considered a fumble and a critical failure is rolled. so, the failed moved from being 5% to being "50% of each time you miss or fail at something". Having 10 luck allowed to have a sub-trait hidden in the system to have 90% chance to change a non nat1 fail into an even number so you could bypass the jinx and use it as a weapon against enemies, BUT the Jinx effect still applies to your allies, so playing a Jinxed run on the game would imply that you need to play WITHOUT allies because they would mostly die from their own malfunctioning weapons or hitting each other in fumbles all the time, just like Qrow happens to "play solo mode" on his fights, and just like in fallout, having a weapon means it can break, so in the games, if you chose Jinxed, you would most likely play "unarmed builds" and choose medic as a skill too so you can heal your limbs and hit without a weapon Monty Oum was famously inspired by deep gaming mechanics, and viewing Qrow not just as a tragic figure, but as a walking, permanent tabletop debuff modifier adds a whole new layer of appreciation to his fight choreography that most of the team wished he would have animated since he had his own unique style to animate fights that was forever lost

Faroth

i love that you got Whitley right, yes, he acts as a brat, but not willingly, he has been alone with Jaques for months, he felt betrayed and vulnerable, he tries to please Jaques because thats his way to deal with him, he 'Fawn' him, he thinks that if you do as he says, he wouldnt be that bad, he is afraid of him, youc an even see his eyes of fear sometimes when he ends some phrases, like "yeah, if we do as he says, he wont be too mad at us" while Weiss tries to 'Fight' it, Winter tried to 'Flee', to run away and hide in the militia, and their mom just 'Froze' and start drinking as a escapism way to not deal with his BS those are known as the 4 F's of victims dealing with an abusive relationship

Xýliandra

First one here!! Let's do this!! 0:14 Fuck Yeah🤘🏼❤️‍🔥 11:42 Yup. It's pretty fucked up😐 34:45 "A Freaking Ninja?!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Ngl, Sun has his moments🤣🤣 45:28 "Whitley, not right now" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 58:45 "Who tf's footprints is that?" Oh Morgan... you'll find out soon enough🫪😅 Last edit: Yeah, these episodes did give us a lot of lore. But not all of it. I really like seeing Weiss' abilities grow and she becomes stronger. And seeing Blake's dad being such a softie is so sweet😭❤️. I'm here for guys/dads like that!! Anyways, I hope you're having an amazing day and I'll see you in your next reaction Morgan. Peace✌🏼

Symbolic Remnant

That’s about right. The other way to put it is Ghira is MLK. [Name said in chapter 1 of this Volume but easily missed] is Malcolm X, and Adam is, well… the Dallas Police Shooter from a decade or so back

Suplee215

Funny enough that stan Lee and Jack Kirby did have those civil rights advocates in mind when making the x men. And yea..mainly i just dont think its fair to call the first 2 leaders of tbe white fang cult. Adam for sjre uses toxic cult techniques

Phoenix_mercury

I actually love seeing whit being able to "be a brat", think about it, around jackass he has to be this perfect model heir(cz we all known that's his role to jackass over being his son) so when their father isn't in the vicinity he can relax a sliver and act like a kid

Phoenix_mercury

Quick note, you seem to be assuming the bird that's showing up around Qrown(crow with a Q as you put it) is a crow(crow with a C), it's not... That's another, similar bird related to someone else with a bird name, that's why when asked of their was "anything else" he wanted to share it showed up as a "are you going to tell them about me/her too?" And he said "not tonight..."👀

All of Jaune’s scenes in this volume get me right in the feels :’( the way he hugged Ren before the team split up… and the way Nora is also subtly looking out for Ren, UGH, my JNPR 💔💔

August Perrin

think they would send me rwby stuff too. probably not

Jittercritter

The fact that Blake’s parents are so unconditionally loving and attentive just goes to show how manipulative Adam must have been to tear her away from them. Keep in mind she was only 17 when she LEFT the White Fang and that was after Adam taught her how to fight her (her words—“more of a mentor, actually”). She says in volume one it was 5 years ago when the old leader stepped down and a new leader took their place, so now that we know that old leader was Ghira, if you do the math that means Blake was only 12 when Blake “ran away” with Adam. That doesn’t feel like running away, that feels like abduction.

WolfieOo

Honestly, you should look up other teams from Beacon. CFVY - Yatshuhashi (or however it's spelled) can make people forget something or someone. He made his parents forget his newborn brother for 3 days. SSSN - Neptune is afraid of water because his semblance controls the water. He almost drowned his brother. He's never touched it again if he can help it. Honestly, Yang's semblance kind of has strong draw backs too. Sure, she stores up power from hits, but she has to be able to keep going even after getting hit like that. Double edge sword and all that.

Faroth

27:51 well, you see, the moon is AAHHHH—gets shooted by River Song River: shhhh .... Spoilers... 42:02 yeah, she is basically a dnd barbarian, so her rages are counted, if she end them and havent won yet, she is on trouble since thats her main feature and without it, all her other stuff is turned off except for some minor stuff (is funny since Barbara played Ellga the halfelf barbarian teenager vampire in a dnd campaign for tales of the stinky dragon)

dainbramage7

I will never understand the hate CRWBY got after Monty passed. They did everything possible to honor his memory and keep his creation alive. The hate was never warranted.

Jittercritter

57:09 Moments like these are where Nora’s exceptionally high emotional intelligence comes in clutch and it’s an extremely undervalued asset of her’s, I’m really glad you called it out

Mare

Technically Team SSSN was originally representing Mistral at the Vytal Festival but transferred to Sun's home town of Vacuo so they're not really a Beacon team. In fact in the Before the Dawn novel, Sun himself didn't want to be included in the Beacon Brigade meetings that (if I remember correctly, Coco held) because he felt it had nothing to do with him.

Ryan

Everyone who has watched RWBY Chibi knows the problem with how Morgan put up the RWBY posters in the background... Morgan is jumping to so many conclusions from these lore dumps that they were out of breath before the reaction even started. Who knew reacting to RWBY counted as cardio?

Mare

8:37 - Very true. Yeah being kept in the dark is a very long running in-universe theme in the world of RWBY...basically for everyone as you witnessed in episode 9. And it doesn't help that the dialogue is stretched out to cover a specific runtime so it sounds like it takes forever for someone like Qrow to spit it out LOL. 9:48 - These Brothers were conceived from Monty, Miles and Kerry with the inspiration of the Greek gods and its mythology. If you're familiar with their asshole-ish personalities, it loosely parallels how Qrow describes the Brothers. 12:52 - Yup...The Infinity Stone analogy is pretty close. However what Qrow is mentioning is only bread crumbs for now. But yeah, it's pretty spot on with what the enemy wants to do with those relics. Good catch! 16:22 - true that Ruby and Yang's dad was away on missions but most importantly, he wasn't "Emotionally" there for them as Yang had pointed out. To reiterate what Yang said, he essentially 'Shut Down' once Summer disappeared (Yang's explanation back in V2 Ep6) 18:56 - I do absolutely love Blakes parents too and Ghira is awesome. Their narrative is loosely based off of the story of the "Prodigal Son" who left his family and came back to his family later on after falling from grace from his actions, expecting to be disowned by his own Father. But surprisingly his father welcomed him back with opened arms and even threw him a party. It was to show that his love for his son was Unconditional which is what both Ghira and Kali demonstrate in Blake's story arc. 19:54 - I agree! Blake's Mistral outside is THE BEST! 22:09 - The White Fang under Ghira as their leader wasn't really a cult like organization. But it eventually became one when Ghira stepped down and Sienna Khan took over. Although I would equate the current White Fang in this volume as more of a Mafia organization (The Albain brother notwithstanding of course) 23:44 - This is what I love about the RWBY series. It's a reminder that people commonly make bad choices in life but what matters is what you do AFTER those choices by owning up to them and willingly wanting to change. And as we've seen in this series so far, is that some characters will either go down a dark path due to letting their circumstance define them OR...they learn from their mistakes and find a way to correct them. And while it may not be an overnight process, it's a reminder to "Keep Moving Forward" and not remain stagnant and fester over those bad choices. 32:35 - It's just another kind of bird flying in (not a crow either). But that other thing about Raven you mentioned....hmmmmm 38:20 - I always look forward to this training session with Yang. There was an interview with the head animator for Volume 5. It was on a Rooster Teeth show called "RWBY ReWind" where it does play by play commentary on episodes as they come out but the hosts also invites the showrunners, writers, voice actors and animators as their guests. The animator in one of the episodes explains that Taiyang's fighting skills were referenced from old Bruce Lee footage of him using his many Kungfu martial art techniques that come from Wing Chun, Karate and even Jeet Kune Do which is what Bruce Lee himself developed. So with Taiyang using those skills, he passed those skills on to Yang. Also a bit of Trivia is Bruce Lee's nickname was "Xiao Long Li" (it translates to 'Little Dragon Li'). 41:23 - Taiyang telling Yang to keep her emotions in check alludes also to her "Goldilocks" allusion. In this arc, she's still TOO HOT and she's trying to temper that down with Taiyang's advice. It's also to remind her not to immediately use her semblance and save it until she absolutely needs to use it. Also this is "Professor" Tai speaking so he's under instructor mode when teaching Yang too. Monty Oum once described Yang's semblance like a power meter in a fighting game. That power meter increases when a game character takes damage and when it's filled up, that's when that character can unleash destruction. But AFTER that power meter is emptied out, it makes the game character vulnerable again. That's kind of how Yang's semblance works. Also during Adam's fight, she was low on Aura to protect her because before coming to Blake's aid, she was assisting with killing Grimm at the school grounds. 54:21 - Most people allude "Tai, she's not coming..." to Qrow hallucinating a memory of the whole 'Summer" disappearance and Qrow having to break the news to Taiyang. 5:19 - as far as Ren goes, yeah you're getting warmer...

DragonBlaze

Morgan i am giving you a fair warning. The Grimm you will see next is cringe as fuck. It moves cring and its a screamer.

Zora Brightwood

I think it's funny how Morgan reacts so differently to Blake smacking Sun even tho that is very unlike her character compared to Mosco and Elijah 😅

Flufux

To answer your question, while most species don't, there is at least one chameleon species that do have horns, three of them even, and that is the jackson's chameleon, and the horns on Ilia's mask did resemble those horns. Also, her ponytail is meant to resemble a chameleon's tail, and her weapon is meant to resemble a chameleon's tongue.

Suplee215

The manipulation was high for sure. I am not sure i would count it as abduction though. Blake grew up in the white fang. Those were her family and friends as much as her parents were. Not hard to imagine a situation where Blake didnt want to leave Illia behind for example. I am sure Adam used that to his benefit too but no matter how good tbe parents are, I can see why a kid wouldnt want to leave the second (or first) home they had too.

Jittercritter

That’s true, I’ve never been part of a big/tight knit community before so I hadn’t thought of it from that perspective. Good point!

David Johnson

Be it known you are just dipping your toes in the sea of RWBY lore.

riley sawyer

The way that Weiss and Blake were opposites in the beginning, but in actuality they're two sides of the same coin. (also get it cause haha the opposite of white is black) They're both princesses/royalty. Blake had a good upbringing (but chose to run away and rebel), and Weiss did not (but chose to run away and rebel as well). Weiss is privileged in the sense that she's rich, but she's not satisfied with herself and how she's seen by others (negative views on Schnees). Blake is privileged in the Faunus world since she's the daughter of royalty, but she's viewed negatively for who she is as a Faunus, and beats herself down for it and wants to spark change. Blake's parents' love for her is unconditional, while Weiss' parent(s)' "love" for her is conditional.

seraineity

lowkey expected them to also find that ooc for blake too but ig not 😅
