Jax is my favorite character and he's proof on how much parents can fuck up a child. Child of divorce, with a parent that hates to infinity the other parent... Been there, done that. And the mother not only projected that hate into Jax, but also when Jax decided to try to reach to her, to share something as vulnerable as being trans just to receive laughs and mockery and insults... the hug was empty after all that emotional torture and no shit he pushed her. And outside, after a time homeless, he had the posibility to work that out, to better himself... inside the circus? Another place, with strange people, after being in a place so hard as the streets, in the hands of an IA with full control... he couldn't. Doesn't excuse him but he kicked into survival instint very hard and he didn't want that mockery, that caused him so much pain, to return in any form. He wasn't deep in the closed, he was trapped in there and he bit all the hands that tried to pull him out until he abstracted, until there was no way back. Some of us with abusive parents we don't want others to feel that pain, to feel less or small... others learn to lash out until they are alone as a line of defense and it's a sad tale eitherway, because they not only abuse others as a kneejerk reaction, but they end up isolating themselves because everyone has a line, a limit, for much they care. And the saddest thing? Ragatta was the best armed character to reach to Jax, to help him, to really understand him but he never allowed her to go that far. We have the consolation that real Jax is out there, getting better and better and maybe, one day, he will reach to the door of the closet and he will open it. It's something at least.

😞 I'm just kinda disappointed the other characters didn't get to have themselves be as fleshed out as jax. i don't hate tadc of course but I'm sad we didn't get enough of ragatha or gangle or zooble, and especially pomni. it's even highlighted that pomni didn't figure out her "schtick" yet, but really I can't list a lot of facts or personality traits for her that are consistently shown or explained like we got for jax, and pomni is the mc, y'know? i did like the ending though, it was cool how they did it i guess but yeah that's my two cents, what do yall think?

The grenades are probably leftovers from the "they all get guns" episode. Pomni still had her revolver from that episode, after all. The sequence with Caine is both him originally finding the neuroscans and after being deleted, because this whole episode the ends mirror the beginnings. They showed more than one abstraction swimming around the "fish tank" at the end, so I think they're all out of the cellar.

I think this might be your longest recording yet. And I love it! Getting to see this in theaters was such an incredible experience, the scene where they all saw what their real life versions were up to got me tearing up. It's a shame Gooseworx was bullied so hard by the toxic "fans." I don't blame her for not wanting to touch this show again, but I hope she knows how much us real fans are grateful for her work, and how much it's pushed independent animation forward.

I want to believe that's true, but then why hadn't Leeroy (human Jax) started transitioning by this point? Surely if he were trans he would've had the chance to now that he has a stable job and is away from his parents, right? It's the only part that doesn't make sense and makes it feel like still just a theory.

I absolutely loved the ending! When I'd heard the theory that they were just data and could never leave, I didn't want it to be true. But that they addressed it immediately, gave us the entirety of the episode to digest it, and then showed us it wasn't all bad, I was very happy. Pomni, didn't escape, but learning that Abigail was happy out there was all the escape she needed. It's all any of them needed. Whether by coincidence of timing, or the environment of the circus that fostered those feelings, each of them entered at their lowest. And seeing their real selves surviving those lows and moving on was a needed example of "It gets better." We all have bad days, but there are reasons we can't comprehend yet that are ample reason to continue on. Even in their digital forms, learning their dream of escape was impossible, they redirected and found a reason in eachother. "Two things can be true." as they say. Jax can be a sympathetic character who survived trauma, becoming a complex and layered individual that is far more than meets the eye. But also, Jax is an asshole. I sympathize with the character for what they went through, but i still don't like them as a person. I'm glad Leeroy found friends, community, and support outside of the circus. And in a healthier place, gladly joined Riley's safe haven, instead of constantly butting heads with Zooble. One of my favorite aspects of the whole scene was that it was Jax who gave Pomni the key. He let her in. She didn't force it out of him. He gave her all of that willingly. So many heartbreaking lines over that whole sequence. I still don't like Jax, but he got me to cry more than any other character in the show. "Two things can be true." Caine's arc in this episode serving as an excellent allegory for fucking up and then doing the work to win back the trust of those you hurt. Too many people in his position would have listened to the voice, blamed the others for what happened to him. Instead he took the time to consider that he was in the wrong. And rather than give up, or try to force his way back, he made an earnest, humble offering. Caine did the work and was brought into the fold. My favorite bits from the conclusion: -Ragatha being adopted by The Gloink Queen. A great mom to replace her shitty one. -The Abstrction Aquarium. Kinger can visit Queenie. And we know those three swirling over Pomni's head were Jax, Kaufmo, and Ribbit. Looked like they were playing together. -We didn't get Ragatha and Pomni canon, per se, but there's more than enough crumbs to make a feast. However you feel until Goose puts a label on it. Maybe they're together. Maybe they're just two friends who found comfort in eachother in a horrible situation. Maybe they're QPR. All up to the viewer. -Abstragedy canon! Ya know that meme where you have two characters in bed in the aftermath, one's chill and having a smoke while the other seems bewildered by what just happened? Personal headcanon; I don't think Zooble knew what they were getting into.

The whole flashback scene in Ribbit's bedroom all but confirms it. It is easy to imagine that the conversation between Jax and his mother went something like, "You'll never be a real man like your father!" and shooting back "I don't want to be a man!" or something to that effect. And given how bad that turned out, no wonder he is afraid to open up to anyone ever again. And Jax's reaction to Pomni hugging him in episode six... then staring at his hand after he pushed her away. And it's easy to imagine what could have been, if things had been better. "That gender fucking caress!" I'm pretty sure you meant to say "tender" but somehow this ended up being funnier.

I loved the finale ofc I wished for more 🥲 but I will always enjoy this show, I did also see it in theaters and it did make me me cry a bit 😭

I agree with the theory that Jax is trans, but on the note of it being so ambiguous I think the that’s the point. When you grow up in a house where toxic gender roles are strongly enforced it can be really hard to know if you’re trans, gender non conforming, reasonably traumatized, or all three. We’ll probably never know because Leroy likely hasn’t figured it out yet, but the fact that they frequent the Triangle bar (a place known to be inclusive and progressive) is a strong sign that progress is being made. SO WELL WRITTEN GOD!

that’s a good question but tbf not all trans people transition or feel the need to transition! :3 (coming from a trans person) there may be a lot of different reasons for someone not to transition. i believe Jax/Leeroy visiting the Zoobles/Rileys bar is definitely some growth but i believe they may need more time of self acceptance before considering transitioning. (wasn’t sure what pronouns to use for Jax/Leeroy lol i couldn’t find one definite answer)

Getting late to this reaction, but a 3 HR talk about Digital Circus and hyperfixating over it is so needed for me. I lost my 17 year old tabby cat Monty on Sunday. He was a huge part of my life. Jax is so angry Kinger isn't being punished for messing up. It brings to mind this Insta comic I read about someone asking why do people hate trans people, and someone else replying that some people concoct all these rules for life that are meant to lead to "happiness", and that if they see someone breaking those rules and still being happy they get angry because it means all those rules they labored under meant nothing. In Jax's mind, Kinger was supposed to be mocked and scorned, not met with understanding. If he wasn't then what does that mean for Jax's world view?

I had to be the strong one while supporting my mother and trying to help her with everything then when I finally had time to myself and decided to watch this I bawled my eyes out bc everything was just coming out. [NOTE: while I believe that Jax was trans, I’m going to refer to him with he/him pronouns since he never claimed the trans identity for himself.] I’m gonna make a controversial statement. “Ribbit did nothing wrong” is not necessarily true. I don’t blame her, and she acted with nothing but good intentions. But she did make one mistake that was directly responsible for everything that happened later. She broke the Trans Prime Directive. If you don’t know, it’s a belief that if someone might be transgender, you don’t tell them that you think they are. You always wait until they discover it for themselves. Now, in real life, I don’t believe this is universally acceptable. (I think I certainly would have appreciated the help.) But in this case, I do feel that Ribbit’s giving the bow to Jax was a mistake. I really don’t think that Jax cut all ties with Ribbit just because he opened up to her. If that was it, he wouldn’t have sat back down on the bed and started crying with his “this is embarrassing” comment. It was that she saw past the words he said to the deeper truth he thought he was still keeping hidden. The truth he wasn’t ready to face about himself, let alone have someone else see it. But she did. And to deny that she saw that truth, he had to deny the truth of that whole conversation. The truth of their whole relationship. How could she be right about his being trans when she was wrong about them being friends?

We are both grieving over losing our feline friends (an in a way that doesn't feel so lonely). Reading your message and reflecting on the fact that Monty was 17 made me realise how good of a life he had in despite him having various health problems along the way. Unfortunately the stuff with Jax's mom isn't uncommon. In simple terms, t's a person's way of making sure you don't feel right trying to get away. It's fucked but I think they handled the topic pretty okay imo

Zobble is one of my favorites on this show besides Kinger. And yes I love them with Gaggle. I'm glad they could be a couple together. And one of the things I love the most is that Ragatha seemed to have been adopted by the Gloink Queen as one of her many children. And that she seems to love Ragatha and that's the kind of mother she deserved to have. Someone that supports her and loves her no matter what. I love that Cain is a member of the gang and that they're thriving in the circus. I like that they also seem to be hanging out outside the circus in their real lives because Leroy( Jax) goes to Riley (Zooble's) Bar all the time. I don't know if I believe that once you're abstracted, that's it for you. I personally think that with time, they might be able to bring everyone back. Scratch, The Dinosaur guy, Worm guy, Mouse guy, Ribbit, Kaufmo, Queenie and Jax. They're not going to be able to right away but since they have time, maybe Cain can help bring them back. In the meantime, at least they're happy together in the aquarium swimming around in the dark.

29:55 mental health accelerated the abstraction but it would never happened if caine didnt mess up their files. Kinger having admin protection in his files was what make it immune to Caine's alterations so thats why even after going full insane he never abstracted. The more caine altered ot put data into them the more their mental health deteriorated because the memories and personality files get messed up with the new lines of code that caine added into them Soat the end, it was Caine's fault
